Friedman Runt 50 vs BE-50 Deluxe
Short comparison of these two fine amps. EQ settings were all at noon for both amps. Master volumes were all at 1. Gain levels were adjusted for the "hi gain" comparison.
Guitar used was a 1990 Gibson Les Paul Std with stock Bill Lawrence designed "The Original" pickups.
Recorded using only the built-in mic of an iPad, positioned directly in front of the speaker cabinet, approximately 6-8 feet away.
Speaker cabinet used for both was a Mesa Boogie Rectifier 2x12 with Celestion Vintage 30's.

Marshall DSL 40C Speaker Comparison (70/80 vs Creamback 65)
Переглядів 46 тис.9 років тому
Quick comparison of the stock Celestion 70/80 speaker to a Celestion Creamback G12 M 65. Same exact amp settings were used. Guitar used is a 1990 Gibson Les Paul Std. with stock humbuckers. Bridge pickup was used.
Mesa Boogie Mark V versus Royal Atlantic 100
Переглядів 28 тис.12 років тому
A "no frills" low-volume comparison between these two fine amps! Mark V was in 45 watt mode for all three channels (Thick, Crunch, and Extreme modes used). Per-set EQ knobs were used for channels 1 and 2. Modified "V Curve" slider configuration was used for channel 3 Extreme mode. Royal Atlantic was used in the 50 watt power setting, no attenuation. Both amps played through a Mesa 2x12 Recto ca...
VHT Pittbull Ultra-Lead w/ Bogner 2x12 (No Marshall clone)
Переглядів 112 тис.16 років тому
VHT Pittbull UL head through Bogner semi open-back 2x12 cab with celestian V30's. EB MusicMan Luke guitar with EMG pickups. Definitely, not a Marshall, Boogie, Fender, or Diezel. It's got it's own thing going...
Great video. I've got a RA being delivered today. I can't wait.
I much prefer the 70/80 here as the Creamback sounds like you buried the Marshall under a ton of laundry to me, the Creamback lost all the attack & presence the 70/80 brought forth, I know people seem to bash the 70/80 and maybe I like more high treble than most but I think the 70/80s have that Judas Priest Screaming for Vengeance sound I have always loved & the Creamback is way too dark and not present enough to ever get there
@@Dr.Dark1331 different strokes for different folks! Thx for your opinion.👍🏻
@tomulator thank you as maybe I am missing something because I can't for the life of me understand the hatred the 70/80s seem to get as I like the sound they get
You should have shown what the clean channel sounded like with the Kokomo boost
@@MichaelHansen-i2u probably just louder…that amp was LOUD and CLEAN in the clean channel. Might’ve broken up a tad…unfortunately, I don’t own it anymore so can’t go back and do that. Thx for the suggestion anyway.👍🏻
I installed the Creamback in mine. Night and day difference! This video or amp settings doesn’t do it justice. Treble 4, Middle 4, Bass 3. Tone shift off. Presence 8. Resonance 0. Thank me later 😁
I look forward to your video showing these much better settings.👍🏼. Let us know when it posts.
I wonder how a Eminence Governor would sound in a DSL.
Nice cleans!
Too much UA-cam compression. Both didn't impress but sound different in room I am sure
I have replace my 70/80 by a Mojotone bv25m greenback style love it 🥰
Focus, Hocus Pocus ❤️❤️
I have a Runt 50, 4x12 Vintage cab and a BE-OD pedal but still love the BE-50 Deluxe more. What I have gets me close and I boost the BE-OD.
I think if you adjust the EQ of the Runt, it would get closer to the BE.
Look at all those knobs lol that's funny
😅🤣😂😂😂😂😂😂😂🤣😅
?
I recently picked up a runt 50 and have had a small box 50 for 4 years. The runt punches so much harder than the small box ever has. My mind is kind of blown.
I think the lower gain and compression really helps that amp.
Runt has congested mids compared directly to the BE. You get what you pay for.
Do you still have this amp and did you continue with the creamback or stay with 70/80? I have a newer DSL40CR and I tried a G12T-75 vs. the V-type and found the T-75 to be overly bass heavy and almost no treble. I had the Resonance and Bass at 0 and Treble and Presence maxed lol and it still couldn't give me what I was after. So I went back to the V-type. I'm next going to try a vintage 30.
No…I sold the amp way back. I’m using a Kemper now. Have you tried a treble booster in front? Or, maybe a graphic eq to help you dial out the frequencies you don’t want.👍🏼
@@tomulator Thanks for the swift reply. I have no need for those with the v-type oddly enough. I'd only need those if I had kept the T-75, which I didn't. It's really odd though how much of a difference a speaker can make.
@@AvnerRosenstein-ULTRA-LXV totally agree! Glad you got it sorted out.
I just got a be 50 deluxe, and the clean channel and HBE channel work, but when i switch to the BE channel, i get a clean sound, and to even hear it SLIGHTLY i have to max out volume and gain. and still hear barely anything, do you know what this could be? The HBE channel also doesn't sound as loud as it should when cranked. The clean channel sounds fine. Any help would be great! running with a friedman 2 by 12 cab. plugged straight into the amp.
Sounds like a tube issue. Check your preamp tubes.
Those creamback made it less bright
That’s what they do. Midrange focused speakers like greenbacks and creambacks sound less bright in the top . Scooped speakers have most of their bite on the high end . The confusing part is midrange focused speakers usually cut through a mix better than very scooped and mostly bright speakers in many cases .
@@heythere6983 yea I cause the first time owning it. Mine at least had a farting top end that was impossible to get rid off for some reason even with an eq pedal. But if I was going to own this amp again I’ll definitely drop in greenbacks or a set of creambacks in it for sure
I thought the runt had a nicer clean and crunch. Just as good high gain. Just not the depth in the low end
Runt seems more versitile for the touring musician who alread has 3k on his pedalboard, seems like a more colorful canvas to work with. But if you don't mind browns, reds and golds the BE50 has the Runt beat for that special midrange magic. But I don't hear it reaching as many places for the most demanding Player. You choose, but you can't lose either way.
BE-50////more saturated tone! Fuller sound......
Nothing in front of the amp? What guitar/pickups are you playing?
Never mind I see it in the description. Man led Paul is nice and dirty.
70/80 for me try a 1960a cab that would be great
0:42 sounded like the beginning of stranglehold haha
Your clean volume is at 9:00, how is this high volume?
For the price ... The Runt 50 without hesitation
Just recently acquired a Runt. I do have a BE100 too. Although those 2 amps are far apart, the Runt is pretty damn good. Thinking a boost or an OD might be needed. Then again,it does 70s type rock fairly nicely. My tele needs a pedal! Where as it screams through the BE. Thanks for the post
From my experience, boosts work tremendously in front of the Runt! I’ve tried a Suhr Kokoboost, a Helix model of an EP Booster, and Friedman’s Buxom Boost with it. All sound great but, that Buxom Boost pedal is my fav!
The BE50 had more clarity and authority.
Runt gets my vote.
Creamback less treble
What's the name of that 80's song at 0:35? I can almost remember ..8675309 !
You’re correct: 867-5309 (Jenny) by Tommy Tutone
Since a lot of people have this amp which i do as well and like it pretty good , i put a wgs et 65 in mine and its alot better , not wonderful but alot better .
Creamback sounds less harsh at those settings. A definite upgrade.
Both could be made to sound palatable with a bit of EQ.
Ray Maybury “palatable”??? PALATABLE???? C’mon now...they’re not THAT bad sounding. I didn’t EQ them specifically to sound their best but, c’mon...that’s a bit harsh.
Sounds like CC Deville on bad acid.
Midnitelite Company do you try hard to be an ass or does it just come natural?
@@tomulator I think it is absolutely natural for this person
3:17 runt 4:00 be50 4:36 runt 5:12 be50
Almost everytime I watch a 70/80 vs comparison video i end up liking the 70/80 better. I think its just become "cool" to hate on it and its actually a decent speaker, but to remain cool you must trash it and anytime someone asks for a speaker recommendation for any situation you must shout V30!
ElDuderino you do realize this is a comparison to a Creamback M65 right? Not a V30. There IS a difference....not sure my video shows it well though. Sorry.🤷🏻♂️
Tomulator whoa whoa calm down, I was ripping on the guitar community a little bit about how everybody praises Vintage 30s and shits on the 70/80 speakers not saying anything negative about this video. Never implied anywhere that this video hated on one speaker or the other.
ElDuderino not upset at all. Just wanted to make sure you knew that it wasn’t a V30. That’s all. Agree, I commonly hear negative things about 70/80’s.
Tomulator ah dang it lol it’s so hard to interpret things online sometimes my bad.
ElDuderino it’s all good. No worries.👍🏼
Have to say, preferred the Runt 🤷The BE-50 almost sounded 'too perfect' to the point where it lacked character..
Wow somebody is definietly from the 80s!
I am curious if you could get them similiar to each other with an eq pedal
BE does sound a little better, but you could buy two runt 50 for what the BE coast
William budd both are excellent amps. The BE is better...not sure my video does it justice, however. But...I do like the Runt 50! As I said...BOTH amps will be stellar at both recording and live playing.👍🏼
what kind of speaker cable do you use?
Not sure in this video...why? Live, I use Lava Tephra cables.
@@tomulator Thank you for the information
K M you’re most welcome. Just a bit of additional information on the amps in the video....I ended up keeping BOTH as I just couldn’t bare to let the Runt 50 go. It’s my perfect “backup” amp in case the BE50 ever has an issue. Also, in the video, the cab is loaded with 2 Celestion V30’s. I’ve since swapped one of the V30’s out and replaced it with a Celestion M65 Creamback. The combination of the two speaker types is really great imo! Lastly, I’ve gigged both amps multiple times now (the BE50 I’ve done many shows with) and I just love the results! Get tons of compliments on my sound. I purchased a Friedman “Mic No Mo” mic’d cab emulated direct box to allow me to run a direct line from my BE50 to the FOH. Works great! The Runt has that box “built in” already, which is a major “plus” as far as I’m concerned.👍🏼😎
@@tomulator I think Creamback cabinet is good speaker. Friedman's 1×12 cabinet is creamback.
K M yeah...I originally put two Creambacks in that rectifier cab that’s in the video...thought it lacked some “punch” in the mids. So, I swapped in one Vintage 30 and I must say, the “mix” of the two speakers is pretty darn good!
It's pretty much the perfect guitar tone
Carlos I sure am attached to mine! Bodhi Blue HH with the floating trem...just a wonderful guitar.👍🏼
3 thumbs up for the riff choice at 2:39 !
Can't remember the name, could you help me ? 🤣
@@brunodeoliveira331 Same Old Song and Dance...Aerosmith.
Would I sound like too much of a nerd for pointing out the fact that I hear you picking the strings with your pick. You must be using a pretty Beefy pick on this one! Good job!
867-5309 for the win!
Jenny Jenny
BE-50 owner. Amp search over :)
I would pick the 70/80 any time. The creamback sounds like the 70/80 with the treble turned down.
I love my BE 50.
