Incredible research - so important, so informative, and so critical to informing awareness, preventative action and response. Thank you Te Puna Aonui for recording and posting this session so those that couldn't make it on the day didn't miss out :-)
except if you are deaf, then you are on your own. 3 month and still you can't produce a interpreter.
I must say, her te reo Māori pronunciation is absolutely amazing. Very impressive.

This is a sad indictment of how little access and support was even considered for disabled people who are denied access to their community. Being homeless during lockdown and homeless during covid and being turned away by MSD, having MSD deny any disability support and deny access to the offices, being beaten and broken on their floors after fighting for access to get there and then being only recognized as having a disability when a disease had turned half the face into an open wound with lack of vision (all doctors letters were ignored and because you are not considered a human individual when you are a disabled female even when you do not live with a partner in same city) then told no housing support, no income support because as a disabled women you are doomed in NZ to live a life of abuse. There is as much abuse and trauma from government services especially during covid as there was from people who literally assaulted us in the community. The only difference being is MSD staff are paid to do it and they are legalized to. Your team even had the chance to take lessons from covid which you have failed to do so, so overwhelmingly that anyone would think you want to practice self congratulation more than be open and accept the hard truth about why NZ is such an ableist and discriminatory place towards disabled people more than any other social group like gender identity, religion or ethnicity. You don't get to celebrate lessons from covid if you fail to even consider them.
People who received disability support services in 2022 were 13 times as likely to die from Covid-19 than the general population. Slow clap on "addressing inequities". That local resourcing of inaccessible services in the vaccination roll out really worked. Why are they still inaccessible today? Why is the chance of getting access to covid and flu vaccination with a disability still less likely than winning a round of cards. Perhaps we could have had some basic access for disabled people in the planning. Even if you hired one severely physically disabled person on your team that would be at least one person you could have helped towards equity but you have excluded us from the outset in your planning and policy team. No one told you we do not have accessible transport services, many have no income at all (which makes IPV more likely) and no one told you hey the police and these support services you brag about are completely inaccessible to us. Lets address why you denied inclusion in your drafting of reports, policies and "shifts" (bs meaningless name) because that will also point to why we are also denied inclusion in the physical spaces and support services as well.
Protip if you live in NZ Enabling Good Lives does not exist. It is a ghost program with ghost funding that only ghost disabled people can access in NZ.
Truly they are ableist and inaccessible. What little help; you feel more suicidal. There is no dedicated response to make justice and support accessible to people with disabilities. WE DONT EVEN HAVE ACCESS TO GP OFFICES OR POLICE WHEN IN NEED OR CRISIS. Even if months later a phone to GPs we get brushed off and told there are no MH supports for disabled people available and none funded even when you contemplate death to escape. At best all attempts to report or reach out for crisis support are met with no support no services and denial. Might be better of consulting a brick wall. No wonder more friends and family have been buried before they turn 30. But hey because they have a disability no coroners report its all "natural" death. Yep totally preventable totally denied access and ignored and now totally dead.
Ah just wow…from 1:04 in those last 4mins being there for the final Waiata… wow just what we needed to close the session.
