I watched this film so many times when I was younger, we had a VHS copy of it and I loved it so much, I apparently took the VHS with me in the bath and cried when it didn’t work anymore 😂 still to this day one of my all time favourites (only Back to the Future is ahead of it). Not seen this channel before but it was fun to listen to :)

I don't know about the originality. John Wyndham's 1951 book, The Day of the Triffids began with someone waking up after the apocalypse in a hospital. It seems to be a tired cliche to avoid tracking the breakdown.

And definitely don't tell them that this is what inspired Syner's approach to do a similar thing when making his own fantastical space opera. The problem with Larsen in the first film is the man hating woman that created her was a consultant. The comic character is awful, basically a villain. It's not Larsen fault, it's how she was directed.
