As a player who wears one every day at practice, it has its pros and cons. You feel almost no difference in weight with it on compared to it being off, but your head becomes very hot on hot days with it on compared to it off. When it's on and I get into contact, I will say that it does lighten the force to my head if contact comes to my helmet. I think it is a step in the right direction and it is useful for now. New helmets that are being created offer the same amount of protection if not more as present helmets using a cap, with the only issue being that they can become crazily expensive. You will see less and less use of them in nfl and college practices as new helmets are issued to players and trust me, in the nfl, they have no issue in the costs of the helmet. The cap is a less costly solution and will be more popular around the high school level and lower division colleges only costing around $60 and it combined with the price of your current helmet can be much less than newer helmets being made.
