On this channel I'm posting videos about my LEGO builds from different themes and from shows I've displayed at. Currently the focus is on Great Ball Contraption but I'm also into City and Classic Space. All three themes will be shown on the channel in the future.
LEGO GBC in the Dark at Steinhanse 2024
The recently released neon yellow LEGO balls were used together with UV flood lights for the LEGO Great Ball Contraption (GBC) in the dark at Steinhanse 2024 in Kaltenkirchen, Germany. Some PV balls (appering more greenish) were mixed in for testing, also. The loop was set up by four builders. The dark hour is an event on Friday evening before the show starts on Saturday.

Ball Track Race (LEGO GBC Module, Great Ball Pit Challenge 2021)
So many cool things here, but the absolute best shot in the video is the kid jumping for joy at 12:18 🥳
Time goes quickly when you're having fun!
The race track is an awesome (and beautiful!) feature!
Thank you. In the size it has today it takes ages to set up and tear down, though. *LOL* I'd say as long as 50 regular modules or more.
This is such a good location for gbc, no lost balls
Yes, it is. We're currently looking into a GBC over several stories next time.
Overall, nice module. I like the flexibility of it, I also love the ball that dropped at the end lol
Nice layout, I enjoyed the video. The big spiral wheel was interesting to see. The one that stuck out to me the most was the big orange bucket wheel. What parts was that made from?
That's part 32143. It has only been in set 8307 (Turbo Racer) in 2000.
@@coastropolisbrick-built Cool, thank you for the reply. I had never seen that piece before.
I love this! (I'm also really jealous of all the track that he has...)
The track pieces are fortunately not very expensive, given their age and the few sets they came in.
ultragenial !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lots of very nice and unique modules!
Thank you. If there only was more time to implement all the ideas. *LOL*
😮❤😊☺️
What lego part are all those dark tan tracks at around 3min?
These are from stunt race sets from the early 2000s. Part 42936 is the straight one. There's also a dedicated video on that module on the channel. ua-cam.com/video/yavCByfA1Qg/v-deo.html
What's the module at 7:12?
It's from local builders only displaying at this show. It's been around there for a few years.
Super cool idea to track one ball through! Also really likes the panorama at the end! Looked like an awesome event.
Thanks. Yes, the Phaeno is a fitting venue for GBC.
Subbed
Nice layout, and nice venue, too! That string of modules with the racing stripes in different colors caught my eye. 😊
Yes, the Phaeno is a great venue, indeed. We're hoping to have a GBC over multiple levels next time.
Great layout! some interesting new modules there too!
Thanks. Yes, some modules were new and some haven't been seen at a show since about 10 years ago.
Legendary
7:17 I'm beginning to wonder if the bloke who made this particular part of the whole shebang is the one behind the camera. Here we linger too long, yet almost everywhere else so far, it's been very nearly too quick. 8:45 At last we move on! Awful "music" btw in this section. Right, dear host, now that I've bad-mouthed you, please accept this next in the spirit of constructive criticism in which it is meant. I'd like to suggest that you do dummy runs following one ball. You'll then see how much slower you have to go for your footage to flow freely so that we the viewers don't have to flit from a ball's entry into a section, straight on to its inevitable exit, jump back to try and follow the route through before we're forcibly jerked on to that exit - which you can see with your eyes, but quite often, we can't see so well because 1 it's all wonderfully new to us and 2 the angle of the shot often is annoyingly just too obscure. I only wish you the best because you're not quite at the level of mastery as certain far east filmers are concerned nor indeed, as the builders of these amazing modules. Onwards and upwards!
This was the most impressive module imo
Wow, the roller coaster GBC is very amazing and impressive. Well done really. I love the loading and unloading part. So clever!!!
Yes, it's from two local builders. They developed it for some years now and it was its first show. It still needed at lot of attention. I'm curious how it will be next year. They'll probably improve it and make it reliable, eventually, as they did with the module after the coaster before.
Wow! Some of these modules look like they are from a parallel universe. I haven’t seen some of these.
Yes, that show always has quite some variety and some talented local builders.
That is alot of wizard wands.
True. GBC ideally has interesting mechanisms and theming, right? :-)
and once again a very nice video, well edited and with suitable good mood music. A really big round with only 3 builders. Respect! Let the balls roll...
Thanks. And yes, we had plenty of space to fill, since the third builder had only one module.
Who made that roller coaster gbc module?
Two local builders. They're only at this show but don't want to be on UA-cam.
Very nice video and good music. I love the rollercoaster. This module is awesome. I hope it worked well all day. love to see this live. Greetings to CB
Thank you! The coaster module is from local builders. Will probably not be shown anywhere else. As far as I know it was under development for a few years and that was its first show. It needed a lot of attention and will probably undergo refactoring.
very interesting circuit ❤❤
Thanks. Yes, some local builders at this show have interesting new stuff from time to time you won't see anywhere else.
Could watch this all day. Love your music!
Thank you. All made possible by the creators providing the music free to use in videos. Check out the links to them in the description, if you're interested.
some nice modules, any instructions available for them?
Not yet, unfortunately.
Wow! A lot of unique modules, it was truly lovely! Thank you for the video.
Thanks! We always try to go for diversity of mechanisms and colors.
This is one of the best GBC-layouts I’ve seen! Makes me want to come to Germany for next year 😊
Thank you! Would be great to have you here. (There are a number of shows still coming up. Let me know if you want to join anywhere. :-) )
Excellent work, good music choice. I could watch this all day!
Thank you.
Hi CB. It is already one week ago that we had a lot of fun with this nice layout. I like the detailed view of the module. Thank you for editing and sharing. 😀⚽️
Yes, having it edited in less than a week is a new record for me. *lol*
Awesome job on the video, some really inspiring builds! 👍
Thanks. Yes, had the opportunity to do this loop with very talented builders.
Awesome... I like this better than follow the ball. But they both have there place.
True. Both types have their advantages. (Also, the Blue Ball version takes less than 10% of the time to produce. :-) )
Great Video. It was nice to have been a part of it. But my Space GBC would not work properly
Was nice to have the chicken in the loop. :-) Also, great city layout you did.
@@coastropolisbrick-built The chicken from my wife
Nice....die nötigen Teile für sowat hätte ich auch hier...GBC ist aber eher ein Thema, für das ich nicht geeignet bin...Steine Stapeln kann ich, aber dabei noch ne logische Funktion verbauen? Nee nee, dat is nix für mich....
Well done, it was a nice time with all of you 😁 can't wait for the next show 😀
Looking forward to it, too.
Video is a great tool in finding where & why a module leaks or gets stuck. Great to see all the new modules.
Yes, adds even more tasks to the list when watching this. *lol*
Schön wars ⚽️⚽️😁😁 bis zum nächsten mal
Freue mich schon!
nice layout, who built the GBC tower module and is there anymore video of that one? im currently gathering the parts for that one myself.
It was built by Andreas from AFOL Westfalen. (The original design it was inspired by is by Diego Baca.) This version was having some issues when fed with 1 bps because some down ramps jammed frequently. That's why we put Lavender Lottery as a splitter in front of it at the end of the video. He's currently improving it.
Great Video
Thank you!
As much as I enjoy watching short bits of these or even following the balls around one of these contraptions, I do wish I never end up with my MOCs next to a GBC again. The noise was getting really annoying after a couple hours, yet alone after 2 days.
Sadly that one after you in the GBC lineup you showed, looked like it couldn't keep up with the standard set.
would it be more consistent if the top tipper worked in batches of 5 perhaps?
Unfortunately not, I think. It would still have only one second to empty and the issue with a ball coming too early getting through would be the same, still. (Mind the lower tipper doesn't have any problem.) Also, the issue doesn't happen often, currently. Tables not being level are a much bigger issue in practice.
I've never built a GBC module before nor seen one in real life. However I do enjoy you're truely testing ALL parts of the standard
Thanks! (It's what you gotta do if you don't want to be able to run a number of modules at a show without too many issues. *lol*)
Maybe the issue with the tipper overflow could be mitigated somewhat if the first tipper was set up to hold balls in batches of six (2 by 3 rather than 1 by 3)? If you half the tippings then I imagine that the 31 overflow will occur less often. Of course, the triggering weight is 1/6, but the lower tipper's 1/10 triggering weight seems like it might work. Also, the lower tipper will have considerably more time to empty itself.
1/6 tipping will be slower than 1/3 tipping though, and his current issue is exactly with 1/3 occasionally not keeping up due to inconsistencies with the ramp. The lower tipper he said worked fine so that's not really an issue.
What about adding a passing window to the small tipper to allow balls only to enter in the up position. When the tipper tips, the window opening slides down and blocks entry...
I genuinely believe if Lego made ball contraptions it would sell
Might be. They'd have to include motors made for long-time running then, though (which the GBC community would highly appreciate :-) ).
The ”flippers” at 1:30 are really cool.
Thank you. That mechanism was designed by John Sherman. I scaled it up to twice the height for Ball Track Race. It was a fitting mechanism also because the liftarms used are available in dark tan. Check out John's video at ua-cam.com/video/HBmuVA71TRg/v-deo.html .
