The only helpful video on a GS outside of a Dutchman that sounds like the Muppets Swedish Chef. Thanks for posting 👍
Brilliant maaaaaate....thanks for posting. 2024 and I'm doing this job at nearly 80 years old now and have never done anything like this. I'm completely rebuilding a 1974 Estate Wagon. I like to call it a " Safari" as I can't afford a DS. Thanks again if you get to see this. 👍👍👍👍👍😁👋

Hello all, very interesting video, thanks for posting. I have a GS 1971 which needs full restoration, first thing I need is a complete wire harness or a good diagram so that I can see where all connections go. Most cables were destroyed by mice and lack of care. Any suggestion please.
Nice mate let go
Great video, looks like a fun project 👍🏻
Excellent video, been watching several of this project. Good stuff 👍🏻
Looking good. Whereabouts in NZ are you? I’ve just started a full restoration of a 1975 DS in Masterton. Very rusty roof 😢
Based in Hawkes bay, I think if I had to do any more than I did and wasn't running on a tight budget I should of gone to a sheet metal company and seen what they could bend/fold up
Please can you confirm the direction of rotation of the engine for me. I understand that it rotates Counter clockwise when viewed from the driving position with the engine installed in the car. Thankyou
Bravo !
I'm having trouble adjusting the valves, is there a video of the steps for adjusting the Citroen GS valves?
Thanks, nice vid. Re-torque the head next oil change! One at a time, back off the bolts in sequence, wiggle it to get some lube under its head, then torque in one smooth pull, down to 42 ft/lbs or what ever the manual says. Also, What's the compression? Thanks again.
Thanks, nice video. Lube under the bolt's head besides its threads!! The ex rocker shafts & bearings/bushs were starting to look bad in 72 for some reason, clearance was opening up and I don't know why. I do know that the importer's warehouse in New Jersey had a HUGE box of new exhaust rockers on hand, while I'd never replaced one in almost 4 years. Good luck.
Thanks! What locked it up? All those lines running to the right side looks cute, RHD french fix. Also, the wrist/gudgen pins need some lube, and cleaning has washed it away & let dirt in if they weren't removed & cleaned properly.
Thanks. Pop-up pistons, wow, never saw those on USofA models, maybe a 2.3? Have you got any pictures of the disassembled head, I especially want pics of the valve seats, they are radiused, venturi like?
Are you Corey Gonzales?
Nope
The DSpécial was the "lower end" of the range. It was introduced in 1957 under the name ID but the DS name was so popular that in 1970 Citroën get rid of the ID name and rebranded the ID 19 into DSpecial et the ID 20 into DSuper. So from a purist point of view those are not DSs but IDs but it's in basically the same car as the DS. Main differences with the "true" DS : The direction wheel is larger (not assisted), the gear box is conventional (instead of semi automatic), breaks are less complex, less sophisticated carburetor, there is less chrome bith outside and inside, a "modest" interior (thin carpet, less options), only 3 colors available, smaller wheel covers... Those features may vary a lot with the year of the model and even more for export models. From the restorer point of view those models have less problems due to more conventional mechanics. Although they still are much more complicated that all other cars from the same period. All models featured the exclusive rusty doors (c) Citroën.
My dad's DS 21 used to have rusty doors back in the late 1970s. So a rusty door in 2023 is not quite unexpected if you ask me. Some even say they were made from rust at the factory. 😆
Beautiful DS. Citroën used to paint the roof a different color from the body, so it's not shocking. The panel gaps are hard to set right but the entire car looks odd if one does not spend the time and effort to get them exactly right.

Je suppose que la prochaine vidéo est sur l'échappement 😉 Beau travail 👍👍
J'allais le dire.
That engine looked mint once you were done!! Always a great feeling to hear it start up for the first time!! Im in Auckland and collecting parts for the restoration of my 1965 id19 . Where did you get your engine parts from? Cheers, Chris
Ordered most from Der Franzose, they seems to have a pretty good range. Auto France in Auckland is pretty good got a few non engine parts of him bit probably has lots of engine stuff too. I recently got a spare motor off trademe if you need any main components
Great thanks for those contacts. I'll look them up. My id19 looks alot like yours did. Lots of surface rust but not too much rot, and like yours i got no idea about why it stopped going so will need to pull it apart to find out.. how did you find out what to measure in the crank and pistons to work out what needed replacing?
Great job
Hi if your going to do a video that might be watched by English speaking people ,it would actually be nice if we could understand what you were saying...im not knocking the Aussi accent, i get on fine with that, but you abbreviate words as you speak. you miss out important syllables and just merge what's left into a slurry of bits ow words.. or is your microphone at fault ? I recommend you SLOW DOWN and ARTICULATE the words then people will actually be able to understand and learn from your video !! That is after all why you have posted the video, isn't it... Im not trying to annoy you either , but to help you with a comment to improuve your videos.. im actually very interested in these motors and I am following these type of videos in French, German, English, Dutch, Italien, and despite being multilingual, yours was the hardest to listen to !! slow down, take your time, it's not a race!!
Much bigger and wide rear
Nice job !
Hi Kraabs! Very great job!😛👍👍👍
Hi Kraabs, great video! Thanks a lot for sharing. Which manual are you using, in the 1974 manual it seems not all info are available, for e.g. timing chain clearances.
Nice work! Have start to work up a DS21 super5 same year as your DS. Look to see more of body works. Keep going with your projekt.
Hey there mate, nice job. Say, is there a special way to extract that distributor base, or is it just attached there with those two studs? One of those studs destroyed the thread in the head, and I have to open up a new M8 thread. Thanks.
Was a while ago so a bit hard to remember. But im pretty sure if you take the bolts off it should tap off. Although ill check my spare engine when i get a chance potentially could be connected to the camshaft somehow
@@kraabs2693 ...thanks for the fast responce. I did remove the two nuts, but it only comes out about 2mm, so I'm guessing that you're right, it must have some kind of other "attachment" to the camshaft. Thanks a lot.
Hı greatins from Muğla Türkiye think to by one are parts still avieblle thank you ,can you reccoment gsa pallas whith airconn how iş the rost on thes cats thank you
The time-lapsed Boy Band music is hilarious! 😂
Great job on that door! Most people would have tossed it on the scrap heap. Very nice work.
Hola tengo un citroen olcit trs12 y no se cual es el cilindro número 1234 y su orden de encendido Gracias
A beautiful roof 👍🙂
Good effort enjoying the channel
Well done! Do a really detailed video on doing the panel gaps and you will become a DS icon! So many people would find that helpful !
I like the white roof. Better in sunny summer days too
Nice work. Interesting for those who hesitate to do same. But Citroën, not Citeon 😉
Hahhaha was typing it in a rush earlier today thanks for noticing
Great job. Agree the contrasting colour looks better. Citroen did an Aubergine 🍆 colour would be terrific with that body colour but maybe a bit dark for Oz sunshine.
Hey mate well done so far
Nice job. don't forget your drain holes in the bottoms of the door!
Thanks for the reminder, most of it is pretty good as it isn't welded continuously but bits like the end cap probably need some
@@kraabs2693 yeah the doors have 3 or 4 on the bottom from factory as the door’s designed to drain through rather than keep water out. A friend here in Ireland plugger his and after a particularly heavy shower found his doors weighed about 300kg each 😁
These videos are really nice, very relaxing. It's nice seeing the old Citroen being so lovingly restored, I'm really looking forward to the finished product someday! Keep up the great work!
Thanks for watching
Nice job
Great job my friend :)
Good progress bro those painted sections coming up really nicely
nice job. Fair warning: the roof can be a nightmare to refit, but there's nearly always rust in the rails so worth doing
Great to watch. You make it look so easy! Would love to do that to my own engine. Q: did you skim the head before putting back on?
Thanks for watching. Yeah Head skimmed and pressure tested, there is a maximum skim in the Manual we went over that a it was fine
Magnifique..... ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ And handsome man
Do you balance the 4 piston rods on equal weight each ? how much does one weight ?
Didn't ballance just put them in the same order i took them out
J ai regardé les 5 videos. Félicitations. Je restaure également une Dspecial de 1973 bleu camargue. Merci Anthony
Merci d'avoir regardé! Camarge est une couleur géniale.
