    They actually did get rid of the foil top and changed to a modern style tall skinny can. Terrible decision IMO, the original can evoked a classic and well established brand feeling.

    That really interesting they also say the best songs from artists are the most fast written. I've heard from it from Ice Cube. From Nas he writes Rewind and also from Chuck D from P.E.

    I understand the point he’s making here. But isn’t it a little foiled (pun intended) by the fact that he says the decision to add the foil in the first place was made completely rationally 🤔

    • @colbymort2119
      @colbymort2119 Місяць тому

      I think he's suggesting that the stricter rationality isn't the hygiene, it's that for a modern business the rational finance decision would be to say it's an easy element of the can to be cut for cost savings - but ultimately the irrational second order effect of increased can sales from being seen as an upper market luxury soft drink drives more sales. So stripping that cost would on paper be seen as a rational finance move, but a detriment to sales down the line.

    The content here is outstanding. Great work. The bit about dyslexic pre--vis is amazing. Brian's elaboration on Hitchcock's Proposal, Argument, Conclusion really helped me wrap my head around it.

    That is a fascinating story. My understanding of what Brian said was sometimes you can easily fall in love with something and not want to sacrifice that one thing, as most creative people do. But if you can learn to let go of that one thing, you can put more emphasis on the totality of the work.

    Redbull was originally a 'refreshing Thai drink'. That is documented history. So, there was evidence that the recipe was good as it is a sort of cultural drink that is popular there. A small can size makes the drink appear more potent and extreme. And, the 'Redbull gives you wings adverts', and the crazy can design is aligned to the extreme brand image. Rory can provide decent insights, but he is prone to making up fluff. He's a marketer after all..

    The dimmer you are, the less logic you're able to detect. Since when has premium packaging to allow a brand to charge a 55% premium versus the competition been illogical?

    • @onlytruth2661
      @onlytruth2661 5 місяців тому

      It’s not logical, it’s normal. That’s exactly what he’s saying.

    • @usefulcommunication4516
      @usefulcommunication4516 5 місяців тому

      @@onlytruth2661 Even the most basic knowledge of human behaviour beyond merely projecting oneself onto everyone else in the world makes it clear that it is entirely logical. Projection is a Sutherland speciality. If he doesn't understand how something works based on his tiny frame of reference (himself and, maybe, his peers) then he claims it is illogical or "bonkers". Unfortunately, projection has always been an advertising industry speciality. It's the main reason why the industry's failure rate is in excess of 80%.

    • @onlytruth2661
      @onlytruth2661 4 місяці тому

      @@usefulcommunication4516 okay so explain: how are companies able to charge 55% more for premium packaging? Why does that make sense ?

    • @usefulcommunication4516
      @usefulcommunication4516 4 місяці тому

      @@onlytruth2661 It makes some people feel better because they believe it helps them fit in better with those they want to fit in with. It's why you never ask anyone what they think of ads/packaging/products when testing them - you ask them what they think those that they want to fit in with would think of them. 'Fitting in' ranges from impressing those you want to fit in with, to (most often) not wanting to look like a qunt.

    • @onlytruth2661
      @onlytruth2661 4 місяці тому

      @@usefulcommunication4516 I don’t know if you read my question so I’ll ask again; how does it make sense that premium packaging adds a 55% markup to the price?

    When people haven't done enough work on themselves through self development they can fall prey to such a condition. But when you know who you are, you'll see that your intrinsic desires are yours and yours alone, rooted in the egos desire to reach self actualisation. I.e. if you grew up in poverty, you may want to desire wealth, security, etc because you didn't have it as a kid. Or because you have a need for security or high status. Some people don't.
