Award-winning novelist, journalist and gardening aficionado, Charlotte Mendelson (When We Were Bad, Almost English, Rhapsody in Green, The Exhibitionist) and Roisín Ingle, Irish Times columnist, feature writer and co-producer of the Irish Times Women’s Podcast had a fantastic and funny chat on stage at the Stella Maris Centre.

Co-authors Helen Macdonald (H is for Hawk, Vesper Flights) and Sin Blaché joined novelist Paraic O’Donnell (The Maker of Swans, House on Vesper Sands) in the Stella Maris Centre on On Sunday September 24th to talk about writing as a team and about Prophet, their strikingly original tour-de-force novel.

Aingeala Flannery, winner of the Kerry Group Irish Novel of The Year Award, spoke to RTE’s Rick O’Shea about her debut novel, The Amusements, her writing life, and the long journey to becoming an ’overnight success’

Dr Howard Keeley of Georgia Southern University, facilitated by historian Celestine Murphy, gave a fantastic talk on Wexfordman, Dr Richard Nunn (1831 - 1910), whose impact on the reform of the public health system in Savannah, Georgia, left a proud legacy.

Award-winning playwright Marina Carr (Audrey or Sorrow, Girl at the Altar, Hecuba, The Bog of Cats) appeared in St Peter’s church on Sunday September 24th to read from a selection of her works and answer questions from the audience.

To kick off the 2023 festival, Doire Press writers, Fergus Cronin (Night Music), winner of the 2022 Maria Edgeworth prize, and novelist, dramatist and poet Órfhlaith Foyle (Three Houses in Rome) read from their remarkable new short story collections. Following their passionate and compelling performances, Fergus and Órfhlaith answered questions from the audience.

On Sunday September 24th, celebrated memoirists Helen Macdonald (H is for Hawk, Vesper Flights, Prophet), Suad Aldarra (I Don't Want To Talk About Home) and Arnold Thomas Fanning (Mind on Fire) took to the stage in St. Peter’s church for a lively discussion about the hows and whys of telling their own stories.

Four dynamic, challenging and supremely talented poets treated the Write By The Sea 2023 audience to a spirited conversation and some extraordinary readings. It was our pleasure to welcome Mary O’Donnell, Ben Mac Caoilte, Rosamund Taylor, and Ronán P. Berry to the stage and we are pleased to be able to share a recording of the event.
