Saturday 12th October my luck ran out!.
It’s been over 24 months now since I last had a UTI. This time it was slightly different. I detected the UTI as ‘peeing’ I felt an unusual burning. I was able to collect a sample of the output, and visually it looked okay, not cloudy or discoloured. There was no smell to it either. Checking with a ‘Dip Test’ strip to my sadness the Nitrate indicator turned a light pink. Yes another UTI.
Luckily for me, my G.P. allowed me to keep a week’s worth of antibiotics here at home. Thankfully they were just still in date (expired December 2024). So I immediately started the course of pills. This was Saturday night.
Sunday started for me like any other day. Got up had a shower then Breakfast and that all important coffee. I tested myself and sure enough that pink indicator was getting stronger. Second dose was masked by the taste of caffeine. The rest of the day went as normal. I did have a heart burn feeling this, for me is part of the Antibiotic pleasure.
Sunday night was okay, I cooked. However later around 11pm I tried to stand up as I needed a pee. However my legs were just not there, and I slumped back into my chair. I tried several more times, every time I failed. And sadly and embarrassing for me I could not hold on any more and yes it happened.
However my kids just jumped into action. They deduced I was hot to the touch and the AC in the room was set to Arctic Winter mode and well I was de-robe so to speak. I did keep the pants. Anyway after around half an hour of chilling (literally) I tried several times more to stand, and eventually my Brain made the connection that my feet were actually on the floor and up I got. My eldest did comment that the walk to the bedroom was the quickest she had ever seen me move. But I was there, safely in bed and the risk of me falling had been removed.
I ended up in bed for the following week. I did speak to the GP and reported I was on the antibiotics. However, for some safety reason I was taken of my prescribed medication and over to a different type of antibiotics.
Moving on, by Saturday the 19th I felt loads better, and was able to get up and finally visit the bathroom for some ‘Thinking time’ then get fully dressed and go try to eat some breakfast.
This was the first food for me, although I did drink while I was in bed I tried to limit this a little as it only lasted in my body for what felt like five minutes. With the best will in the world, bed bottles are not the easiest to use.
Still, there is one positive I am taking away from this. While ill I did lose 1.1 Stone. So that’s been added to the running total, and once I started eating again I am glad that only 0.5lb has been put back on, and that has now gone, so I will take this as a win.
While in bed I felt like I was having a relapse. I was numb from shoulders to toes, and needed help moving them to stop sores forming. I could not move in bed at all. This made trying to use the phone to access the electronic helper at the Doctors fun. After several hours I gave up on it as a bad job and just sat in a long telephone queue. But being British, this is something we are good at. Queuing.
Up and about, Sound nuts as my voice has changed. I needed a Shave as I looked a right mess. But I am up, not right yet, but every day is improving. I am not sure if the issues with my left side of my body will clear with time I will just have to wait
