Why Part-Time Software Engineering Could Be Your Ticket to Success
Why Part-Time Software Engineering Could Be Your Ticket to Success
It's been two years since I embarked on my journey as a part-time Software Engineering student, and I've gathered some invaluable insights that I want to share with you. In this video, I delve into the various benefits and considerations that make part-time study a fantastic option for aspiring software engineers.
One of the major advantages of studying part-time is the flexibility it offers. Whether you're juggling a full-time job, family commitments, or other responsibilities, part-time study allows you to tailor your learning schedule to fit your life. This flexibility has been crucial for me, enabling me to balance my work and personal life effectively.
Another significant benefit is the opportunity to gain practical experience alongside your coursework. By studying part-time, you can apply theoretical knowledge directly to real-world situations, enhancing your learning and professional growth. This hands-on approach has been invaluable in cementing my understanding and skills.
Engaging in a part-time programme also opens doors to a wider network of professionals. From classmates who are also balancing work and study, to industry professionals and lecturers, the networking opportunities are plentiful and can be instrumental in your career development. I've made some great connections that have supported my journey.
However, successfully balancing part-time study with other commitments requires excellent time management skills. In this video, I share some tips and strategies that have helped me stay organised and productive throughout my studies. Managing my time well has been key to my success.
Financially, part-time study can be a more affordable option compared to full-time programmes. I discuss the financial benefits and considerations, including how to manage tuition fees and potential funding options. This aspect has made pursuing my studies more manageable and less stressful.
Hope will help you in making an informed decision about pursuing part-time Software Engineering studies!

Is Buying A Property Still A Good Investment In The UK?

Is Buying A Property Still A Good Investment In The UK? Yet another saturated property video on UA-cam, but this one is more about my thoughts and opinions after being a landlord for the past four years. I still think property is a good asset and a way to diversify the portfolio; after all, it is a tangible asset and its value steadily increases over time. Let me know what you think about the c...
Why The First £10k is Always Hard

Why The First £10k is Always Hard My first £10k in savings didn't come easy. I spent the first three years working towards that goal when my salary was only £25k. It wasn't easy, but it was doable by sacrificing my social life (not that I had many friends anyway), outings, and lots of good things I should have been doing in my 20s. By the time I realized it, I was 33. Deep inside, I do wish I h...

How Grinding in 30s Shaping Me I must admit that striving for success in my 30s feels profoundly more challenging than in my 20s. Wow! 9 modules in a year is quite a lot. Personally, I never took more than 3 a year, but to be fair I had a pretty high pressure job at the time, flying from PA to Florida every couple of weeks🙂 Also for my first couple of modules, the time to do the assignment was only 4 weeks, so the schedule was brutal. Fortunately, they changed to a 6 week assignment period by my third module.

    just found your channel, great stuff! interesting how we are in similar life situations (London based, c.10 years in employment, and others that I won't disclose here, etc.) although my view on property is flipped! Would be a great conversation (plus other elements on your channel) if you ever have a Q&A or one day a London event!

    • @neoleemh
      @neoleemh 7 місяців тому

      Hello @DSSaw26, certainly yes! I still genuinely reckon getting up the house ladder first in the UK is still the right choice. I may explore the idea of HMO once the interest rate lowered a little bit. Not well received by others for sure, but will give it a go anyway :p

    • @DSSaw26
      @DSSaw26 7 місяців тому

      @@neoleemh I feel with current interest rates, getting on the housing ladder isn't quite as financially beneficial as renting i.e. rent is relatively reasonable compared to a chunkier mortgage repayment. plus the deposit money could be spread across other investments (risky though as you point out haha) Are HMOs still allowable these days? I was of the understanding the government has cracked down on this, a great avenue for cash flow if possible!

    • @neoleemh
      @neoleemh 7 місяців тому

      @DSSaw26 yep a lot of people would agree on that, I went in during covid , my interest rate was 1.4% that time.... Would rather have that money on ISA for now too! Yes,HMO still a good tool to maintain wealth I would say, I yet to have the money to jump into it, but it is one of the area I would like go invest!

    • @DSSaw26
      @DSSaw26 7 місяців тому

      @@neoleemh I actually think your situation is a positive one, locking in a relatively low interest rate for (I assume and hope!) 5 years! In this case I don't see how you might prefer to have the house deposit sitting in an ISA, unless you mean a stocks and shares ISA (current interest rates are around 4%?) by HMO do you mean more like getting a buy to let mortgage and renting out that way?

    • @neoleemh
      @neoleemh 7 місяців тому

      As corny as it may sounds but my £100 investment in ISA back in 2020 now has upped 170%, imagine if I invested more into it -- :( Yes that's right, rental properties, hope I could get one soon!

      Hi, can you tell about the application process and what exams have you given?

    • @Fugitivez03
      @Fugitivez03 Рік тому

      @somestarsoul This is a professional course, although GRE marks can be provided I don’t think it is mandatory. The selectors are looking at how the candidate can grow from the course in their respective professions. Application process is on their website.

    From what I heard from my colleagues that did the MSc in Software Engineering and Security in Ox, the Security Principles is rather on the tough side and pre-requisite for the other security modules. I haven't done it myself yet, but will report back in October ;)

    Will be starting the MSc Software and Systems Security this year and will be in Kellogg as well. Maybe we run into each other during the Matriculation :) Anyway, yeah, I was dealing with the same thing. Not really any information available. I had the advantage of knowing 2 colleagues that did the same MSc in the past but even they were always a bit cryptic. Always referred to it as, yeah it's tough but rewarding. However, I can't wait for it to start this year.

      I don't understand, is it part time but still you need to attend from 9-5 ? I am full-time employee and wanted a part-time MSc on the side even if it's challenging as long it's doable along a full-time employment
