Great guide but i fail to follow it properly. Even though i attach it using super glue the contact between the switch and the macbook seems bad i need to press the key real hard for it to register.

each year they improved it so they are all different, with2016 defo the fiddly one to fix especially the spacebar, on the 2019, the button clips in easily...i usually nust replace the palmrest totally, better long term solution

The keyboard was driving me crazy and making me very nervous! My sympathy to all the "Butterfly users." ! ;-) I used to regularly remove the black keys to clean underneath, but I would have never dared to attempt this deeper operation without seeing your tutorial. To add my contribution, note that I did it as you showed to remove the keys, but not having found a replacement part, I tried to repair them instead of replacing them. I simply cleaned the dust thoroughly, leaving the adhesive in place. Then, I slightly adjusted, very gently and carefully, with a needle, the two small contact tabs in the center underneath the central plate. Finally, I put everything back together, leaving the original adhesive seal still in place. ...and I just typed this comment without any more keyboard issues!!! NB: One of my keys had a burnt look, like one of yours, but it works again after the repair. I think the issue with keys that sometimes don’t work and other times type the same character multiple times can be explained by the gradual compression of the two small contact points in the center of the plate. Over time, the two small tabs bend inward. Therefore, you need to press harder for them to work, but once a stronger contact is made, the key registers the same character multiple times. This seems mechanically logical to me. I’m over the moon! Especially since, after doing some research, I saved 150 € for a keyboard replacement if I do it myself. 290 € at a reputable shop. And at Apple, I didn't even dare to look. We'll see if it holds up over time, but for now, what a joy to have my keyboard back like new in less than 30 minutes and for free! Thank you so much!

Hi, this indeed a clear and informative video, but please where do we get the key and cap mechanisms

I have a C key that was having issues. Just curious for anyone @Ludwig or anyone that resolved this if when they remove the fixed key faceplate if the whole thing comes out? Or just the faceplate? Reason was I had a Macbook technician that tried the same thing but used some kind of cement. But the faceplate still comes out even after it cured for over a day.

thank you, i don't think i found any other videos like yours that handles the replacement of the whole mechanism, where do you buy the entire set of mechanism? edit: ah aliexpress yes thats where i saw them too, it takes quite a while for the order to arrive, i'll just keep my fingers crossed then. I tried fixing the loose key and ended up ruining the whole mechanism. Shop says i need to replace the whole keyboard, i refuse to give up just yet!!
