Civil War Days: Strasburg's Summer of '63
Переглядів 201Місяць тому
On June 8th and 9th, 2024, the Strasburg Railroad held a series of special events titled: "Strasburg Summer of 1863" which imagined what might have happened if the Confederate Army had been successful in preventing the Wrightsville Bridge across the Susquehanna River from being burned, allowing the army to advance into Lancaster County. Because my party had secured tickets in the Wine & Cheese ...
Werner (as possibly told by Klaus Kinsky...)
Переглядів 172 місяці тому
What would legendary film actor Klaus Kinsky want to say today about his working relationship with famed German film director Werner Herzog? How would he incorporate these thoughts into a song? What if this song were composed in the late 194Os and assigned to one of the big bands (possibly Tommy Dorsey's)? I posed all these question to AI here's what it produced: Verse 1: In the heart of the wi...

Curtis Sliwa: Friend of the the Pigeon

While I don't agree with all of the positions that Curtis Sliwa has taken over the years, the fact that he's got a soft spot in his heart for NYC pigeons makes him something of a hero in my book. So here's a song: "Curtis Sliwa, Friend of the Pigeons" meant to honor his affection for New York's most maligned misunderstood wild creature: the pigeon! Song and images made with a motley assortment ...

Artemis the Rescue Pigeon leads a Lionel 1655 2-4-2 "Scout" locomotive around a loop of O-31 track. Tonight Artemis is chasing a Lionel 1655, a late 1940s product whose tooling was revived from the pre-war 1654 and augmented by a better motor. Also known as a "Scout"...

    When their nest is ruined, they will quickly rebuild. Here in Argentina it's comoon to burn the nests down, people also steal their chicks from the nests and sell cheap. It's a sad situation.

    There is no reason to kill them, but if the state decided to control populations it would have to be for a reason that is detrimental to us as an invasive species. Koala bears in Australia were considered threatening because of their overwhelming populations and they were devastating eucalyptus trees. In result, control methods were conducted such as relocation, shooting, etc.

    That reminds me, I just seen a presentation on Chlamydia, and it mentioned it's spread by birds. I suppose that both introduced, feral birds present problems to humans, as do all invasive species.

  • @ieguy3
    @ieguy3 12 років тому

    Yeah, possibly true. Tell that to the farmers who find their fields decimated by the parrots in the future. You'll see them kill them wholesale. As for droppings? Parrots are a much more likely source of Ornithosis (Chlamydia) infections than are pigeons. The bacteria remain infectious for months in the feces. My background is vector biology, I know the damage feral pigeons can cause. I also am extremely aware of what the parrots are capable of.

    WORM, if we honestly answer this question: IF this planet were to rid the single most destructive, arrogant, wasteful species which would it be? It is not a matter of philosophy, debate, etc there are CLEAR MEASURABLE results of the impact of chipmunks and of humans. It is clear. You can word it however you wish and you can be as foolish with your reply as you wish but you and anyone reading this knows the truth of the matter. You have no case. The arrogance in which you reply is testament.

  • @MeEatEgg
    @MeEatEgg 12 років тому

    Thank you WORM. THere could be another way couldnt there? Did you account for another? Should I kill myself or stand and live as an example of how I wish to see this world, to live as example for how I wish others to live. I am not a saint, far from it, but you should have no question as to whom the MOST destructive species is. Should we jsut ignore or rather share, illuminate, act, BE? When you are cynical do you jsut stay there or do you connect with your true desire and be IN ACTION? THINK!

  • @RedWyrm13
    @RedWyrm13 12 років тому

    Sorry for this odd monologue... I had it in my system... I do not mean to offend anyone. So, do you always feel like we are "the loudest, destructive, most foolish species on the planet"?

  • @RedWyrm13
    @RedWyrm13 12 років тому

    "The loudest, destructive, most foolish species on the planet". You sound a little like me when I am in a cynical mood. Makes me wonder if some people who blame humans for various issues (usually ones that are our fault) are misanthropic, sometimes to the point where they desire the extinction of man... If so, wouldn't they desire to die themselves, or are they hypocrites who are arrogant and see themselves as something other than man...

  • @RedWyrm13

    Funny thing... Pidgeons (Feral Pidgeons, which were Domesticated Rock Pidgeons from Europe) droppings chemically destroy brownstone... these Parrots take up potential nesting areas for the Pidgeons, and prevent said buildings from being damaged (their droppings are harmless). That being said, they are still an invasive, introduced species spread by human folly, but they help prevent building damages via Pidgeon droppings.

    They look soo pretty and healthy. I have one and have had him for 3 years. He's molting and I can't do as good a job as another quaker. Should I consider getting him a friend? After having him, then seeing them in the wild, I believe that's where they should be. they just look soo happier. Not to day mine isn't, but he can't live fully with his wings clipped, or being confined to my house. I've decided to let his wings grow again, being that he's flown away and returned twice already.

    They are amazing. Mine can screech me out of the room with 3 other parrots not even chiming in. I can hardly think of the noise of that many. lol I think they survive because the stick together - look at their nests - and because of their alarm system. They can't help it that for whatever reason they are not wild. They are beautiful and you have to admire their lifestyle.
