Great instructions! Will need to practice this every time I weld.
🙏 Thank you. Happy to help. LET IT SHINE ✨
Short and to the point, very informative.. USMC flag, new subscriber 😊 thank you for your service!
Awesome! Thank you! 🙏. Happy to help. 🫡Respect. Once a Marine, always a Marine. LET IT SHINE ✨
Your technique, and advice is excellent. Great presentation. Stick welding has been around for 120 years, a little bit more than oxy acetylene. A couple of variables not mentioned. Newer stick welders have electronics, inverters etc. that help with the arc starting. Many love the the old "buzz or tombstone boxes". They are AC and now very cheap to buy as the younger ones ditch them for the lighter boxes with dials and displays. They are heavy and almost indestructible, but seem to be trickier when starting that arc. The other variable is the age/state of old rods. Brand new ones are easier to start than older ones due to moisture etc. My solution is to have a small coupon, about 10 by 5 inches nearby, held with vise grips to the welding table or job. Use it like a matchbox side. Scratch the rod at the beginning until you get an arc and then move it to your welding job. The rod is now warm and dry and tends not to stick to the workpiece.
Thank you for taking the time to watch the video. Even more, thank you for the feed back, knowledge & experience to share with everyone. Knowledge is power, iron sharpening iron ⚔️ . LET IT SHINE ✨
I would just grab another rod. Thank you for this tip. Like flinging a booger at end of bead.😀
Sometimes it's the simplest things that work the best 🫡.
Thank you!
Great! Will practice this!
Glad I can help, keep practicing! Let it shine ✨
This is the best kind of instruction and is hard to find. Thank you sir.
Thank you for watching, glad you found it helpful. Always a different angle of view and explanation. LET IT SHINE
Good information! It is a rough looking weld, however, it serves the purpose. Thanks Natalio.
Great tips!
Great tips!
Great tutorial 👍🇺🇲👊
Wow. Thank you. I noticed the grooves but never thought of them in this way. Welding is going to be so comfortable moving forward.
@1:33, yup
8 ball, corner pocket. Nothing wrong with using your off hand but you will go through a lot of gloves if you don't get better.
Natalio, You are a awesome instructor. This video is a tremendous help for one to learn the basics, which leads to strong welders foundation. Thank you!
Thank you, 🙏. All glory to the most high who blessed me with the skills that I have. Passing the knowledge to future generations. ⚔️, Iron sharpening iron. LET IT SHINE ✨
7018…when you stop for whatever reason push the point of the rod immediately into a piece of wood…restart is a simple scratch …. No wiping and throwing puddles of melted rod on your coworkers….try it …SJB
Glad you tried it. I have a piece of pine shelving just a 4x4 piece of pine smells great. Just remember the tip of the rod is red just hold into the wood until you see a bit of smoke…..easy peasy and smells like a pine forest….😎😎😎Steve
Rod angle...heat....travel speed
Yep, the big three! LET IT SHINE ✨
Good job explaining!
Thank you for watching. I try to break it down and be as clear as possible. Let it Shine ✨
Don't teach students to "fling" a molten ball across the floor of the shop they may be working in. In a factory or fab shop you can't control where that molten glob goes and may burn someone or catch something on fire. Stupid technique. 🙄
Thanks for the feed back. One of many techniques out there. Since I started welding in 1999, I’ve yet to start a fire or hurt anyone I’ve worked around. Because I keep safety in mind. For SOME, you do have to reiterate safety on a daily basis. Safety first 🚨
Thank you - I’m only a hobby welder in 🇬🇧. Have struggled to find channels that are clear and informative - you have a great teaching manner.
@Bitnixer thank you, 🙏. It’s a blessing to be able to pass on knowledge. I’m truly happy to be able to help. LET IT SHINE ✨
You can rub it off with your thumb when its still cherry red and it leaves it clean and bare for a restart
Also works, 🫡.
I see any variation on "the Nth one will blow your mind", I block the channel from my feed.
You are welcome to your opinion. I try to make each video with content I find helpful to the viewers. LET IT SHINE ✨
@letitshinewelding3787 just a heads up. There are also browser extensions that automatically hide clickbait. People are genuinely getting tired of it.
Good Information and techniques.I started with Flux core wire Railroad cars then went to solid wire argon shield for KUBOTA and then to stick welding up pre fab parking decks . EVERYTHING YOU SAY IS 100%
Thank you for the feed back. I really appreciate you sharing your experience. I also started with the squirt gun. Overtime I was blessed to have welders take me under their wings and coach me up. Iron sharpening iron ⚔️. Blessings, LET IT SHINE ✨
Figured it was clickbait, but pleasantly surprised to find a useful tip. I have zero issues with restarts on my old Lincoln tombstone welder using Lincoln 7018, but picked up one batch of Hobart rod that was terrible and thought I forgot how to weld. I may have try this to use up the Hobart.
I believe you. Happy you clicked on it and found it helpful. The Hobart comment, I almost fell out of my chair laughing 🤣. Been there, done that. LET IT SHINE ✨
Same problem here. 👍🍻
Just great…as a total beginner, I got Hobart 7018 and red flux 6010! The hardest of everything.
My biggest wish in stick welding is having an electrode that starts like a 7014, but welds like a 7018😁
Practice makes improvement, 👨🏭. LET IT SHINE ✨
Same here on the farm. All I use is 7014 for repair and fab. So easy to lay a nice bead and never had any fails in 40 years.
@jefffrayer8238 Thank you for sharing. Really nice rod to work with, 100%. I’ll have to talk a bit more on rod selection and best use. God, bless. LET IT SHINE ✨
@@jefffrayer8238 yep, 7014’s are nice because you don’t need the higher amperage.
@ I really like your tips and video. Interesting learning about Lincoln vs Hobart rod, maybe a bad batch? I do need to learn the 60 series rod as the John Deere backhoe needs a little welding. Service manual says to preheat a bit, use 6010 then 7018. Thanks.
I just tap it on the cement when I'm in the shop.
Yes, as long as you get metal to metal contact that’s what matters. Simply taking time in strike the rod and find that sweet spot between 1/16” & 1/8”. LET IT SHINE ✨
I wish I would have come across this video when I first started welding, love how you show us to position yourself and smoothly get pass that point where we start to burn or feel we are going to get stuck soon, I feel that no one really explains what you just did in this amazing video. Love the video, well explain and done.
Thank you, 🙏. There’s always a different angle and ways of explaining. The years I’ve been fortunate to be an instructor have taught me how to better explain things. Iron sharpening iron ⚔️. LET IT SHINE ✨
Cool tip, thanks, 🙂
Thank you, I’ve used it ever since it was shown to me. LET IT SHINE ✨
Very informative, thank you
@ThomasConlon-gu5pz happy I can help. LET IT SHINE ✨
You got it right on the mark bro after doing it for a long time it's done automatically
Muscle memory. Practice makes improvement. LET IT SHINE ✨
I'll have to try this. I always had a pipeliner's file laying nearby to clean the slag off the end of the electrode before a restart.
Same. An old school seen me struggling early in my career and said “let me learn you something, young buck” I’ve used it ever since. LET IT SHINE ✨
Thanks for your help and advice 🦾

You're a Marine, brother? Sub'd af. Let it shine!
I welded before going in but didn’t pursue it during my time. I served from 2003 - 2015, 1812 M1A1 Tank crewman. Been fortunate to learn deferent process and passing down the knowledge. LET IT SHINE ✨
Pushing and pulling your beed really depends
Are you doing a 105 demo? 😂 Man I don’t miss running that phase
I feel you, bro. One of my least preferred welding processes.
The penetration profile is different from push to pull both have there use. Push is a lot fatter and pull is just a hair deeper
Yeah, the penetration is the biggest difference. Pull method has the wire constantly going into the puddle, resulting in deeper penetration. Push method has the wire going away from the puddle, leading it. Giving enough penetration for a solid weld. LET IT SHINE ✨
Good info! glad i stumbled upon your page
Glad I could help. LET IT SHINE ✨ out of curiosity, what helped you out? I’m going to do another open root for the 2G & 3G next.
i use a pair of ceramic tipped reverse tweezers instead of holding with the glove. works really well
Smart. Let it shine ✨
Wow hat job on extremely basic. Do a minisota key hole

Great tips 💪
Thank you, Frank 🙏. Those arc shots are awesome, can’t. Wait till the next time 👨🏭

As a beginner, i found this very simplified and informative. There are not a lot of videos on this subject, but there should be. This technique has help\ed improve my beads way more than any other one single video I've watched to this date. Thank you.
Thank you for the feedback. Blessed to be able to help yourself & others. Any ideas on what you would want to see next or need help with? LET IT SHINE ✨
