I thought the question about Tatis was fair one. It's not about his talent it's about his attitude. He definitely is an attention seeker & there have been a lot of issues with him. Great players does not always make a winning team which we learned last year. You work for the Padres but please don't belittle an interesting relevant question.

Perhaps San Diego Padres is the "best fit" for Profar, considering his rather rocky career as a major leaguer? First and the foremost, when Profar joined the Padres for the very first time, there were Machado, Tatis Jr., Cronenworth, and Kim soon after, and he was able to play together for a while. Fast forward to 2024 and Profar rejoined the Padres and the very same Machado, Tatis Jr., Cronenworth, and Kim. In other words, Profar could feel a semblance of comfort and stability unlike what he had experienced prior to joining the Padres--i.e., the Padres team identity would be something he can readily embrace. Meanwhile, as for San Diego as a place of work and living, in my opinion, San Diego might be an attractive destination if you prefer living in a major city, but megacities are too much for you, making San Diego relatively more laid back. I think Jurickson's smile is gorgeous, among the best smiles and voice I have encountered from a major leaguer. (A side-note: another major leaguer whose smile and voice I have also liked very much -- Tony Gwynn!)

the thing that stands out about him to me, at the risk of comparing him to Tatis or even Profar, is how polished he is with his approach and how disciplined he is with what he swings at and what he spits on. Tatis WAS NOT refined at this age. Lets be clear, Tatis was a one-ff inasmuch as he made a lot of contact for someone who struck out a lot and he had an "it-factor" no other player had because he was doing things we had never seen done before. All that said, what makes Merrill special, is his discipline and refined approach..and the next-to-nothing flash he plays with. He has swag, dont get me wrong...but he's not interested in entertaining anyone. You really do get the feeling you're watching a veteran when he's at the plate. That breaking ball he hit OUT against Oakland's closer?...was the moment I remember saying out loud "oh, this m-effer is trying to go to the HoF"..because rookies dont dig in against a closer who throws 103mph, and look for a curveball to hit. But thats EXACTLY what Merrill sat on. 21 yrs old...and he's that tuned in to what is being thrown to him.

I was REALLLY impressed with the kid...I really was. And it was the 'crispness' and life of his pitches, that got my attention. And I didnt mind that he was amped up...because it sorta showed his how hard he threw when the ball was flying way up in the zone. When Mike pulled him out, I thought 'this kid can be a #2 or #3 starter eventually".
