Fun fact this is exactly how his audition to become the Master went.
Doctor who 2 most popular villains
Cool
"Your husband what a coincidence" ... He's my husband too
Okay this explains how the Master survived total destruction from the Glory!
Leeta with the Master? lol I need to get this audio
I kinda like Eric roberts acting when doing his big finish master stories- it’s got this sly and charming demeanor that hides an ocean of contempt and desperation. He’s really come into his win with these audio dramas
Eric Robert’s is just waiting for his pay cheques to roll in
4:23 "Oh no, he's alive, Vienna. Within *me.* Alive, and awake, and aware, SCREAMING- in silence..." God, that just proves that Deathworm Morphant was a coverup. All I can see in my head is a music video to Simon Curtis' Pit of Vipers with that line.
This is so cool!
I'm guessing The Eye of Harmony also had enough of his little snake charm advantage?
"Also because I wanted the company." Excuse me, from HER!?
Cool that they actually managed to get Eric Roberts for this.
Eric's Master should have regenerated into a Talking Cat!
Fair play Eric. Brilliant
so Master have part of Doctors Tardis ? basically old Tardis Room and also works as a stand alone tardis ?
Probably an archived desktop filled with junk. Like a storage locker, i'd imagine him just piling junk in old rooms to store it
Might be a tertiary console room, which is a sort of temporal escape pod with limited travel, not sure if the type 40 is equipped with one though
The Master with an American accent is still weird but I love how Eric Roberts cooks.
Is he known for his cooking?
@@IG7799-c4u Yes. He always the right dressing for the occasion.
@@mikebliss3153 Lol nice one.
What was he Ewing about? 10:43 or 10:44
They work so perfectly with each other!
Eric Roberts is so far the only American actor to play a major character in Doctor Who. There are many performers who put on an American accent for their characters, but they are either English, Welsh, Scottish, and/or Irish. Roberts is so far the only American Doctor Who actor. Not a naturalized citizen, but a born in the USA citizen.
Jack Harkness?
@@s0n0fm4n3 John Barrowman is from Scotland. He grew up in the US.
@@greencello599 if he grew up in the US he's practically American
@@s0n0fm4n3 He identifies as a Scotsman.
Neil Patrick Harris is going to play a villain in one of the upcoming specials.
Wow, haven't seen (or heard) Chase Masterson in years. Loved her as Leeta in DS9.
That line where the Master said how his host body's mind Bruce is still alive is a rather disturbing revelation! It has to make you wonder if Tremas and every other people The Master has taken over could see and hear everything The Master has done, but are powerless to stop any of it.
These two remind me of the 3rd Doctor and the Master. So casual and relaxed
Until they're not.
@Caithness19 We need more Jacobi and Eccelstone I think
Ohhhh The Master is lying about how he survived the eye of harmony. Hiding in a room the Doctor ejected from The TARDIS? According to the 11th Doctor any being in a deleted room gets automatically deposited in the main control room.
He wasn’t lying, in this case. The Diary of River Song expands on his story, showing him stuck in several TARDIS rooms in the middle of the vortex. What the 11th Doctor said likely only applies to rooms completely destroyed. In the Master’s case, the rooms were surgically removed and separated by the TARDIS.
@DoctorDodge the TARDIS Barfed him out essentially? Never left a good taste did he
Ironically The Master's lie more matched what Sutekh did instead.
@@xanderm6090 Peh, the Sutekh Twist is worse than the Timeless Child. Maybe the Master and Sutekh had tea and shots while they were both stuck in the TARDIS.
This particular box set is awesome
It’s kinda strange hearing a true American actor in a Doctor Who Big Finish audio.
Claudia Christian In the Reaping?
Chase Masterson?
Finally an explanation on how the Master survived/escaped the eye of harmony! Pretty good one too.
He also told the Eighth Doctor in The Day of the Master
@@SchultzDorinda and in mastermind
I met Eric Roberts at a convention years ago. He was an incredibly nice guy.
He comes across as pretty laidback and unpretentious. The man is almost always working so even if he has been involved in some less than successful projects, he's still doing his job and earning.
Makes me wonder how he feels about fan work. @@jricks3909
I wanna see that Version of the master in the next adventures of the doctor in the new seasons
He should face David Tennant's incarnation.
Having the Bruce incarnation back would be amazing he's a personal fav of mine
@@zbaksh101 somehow i feel like eccelstone would match his energy perfect
@@raymond8920 that would be cool, and they both wear leather jackets haha
@@colemacgrath2005 Another Master I saw someone else suggest to face of against the Ninth Doctor was Alex Macqueen's Master.
I know he is an awesome master…but all I here is dark Danny from Danny phantom! 😂
Holy crap, I had no idea! No wonder I recognized that I’ve in his voice.
@@andrewhall6479 yeah! It took me a long time to but now I can’t unhear it! 😂
@@theamericanwhovian5678 I meant to say "ice." Auto-correct strikes again. Anyway, amazing stuff.
Gotta give Eric Roberts, his performance as his version of the "Master" is good.
Chase Masterson? Yet another “Star Trek” alum doing “Doctor Who”.
During the early days of New Who, the BBC requested BF not use the Master in their Audio stories. So from 2003 until about 2011/2012 They couldn't do Master stories. And had only done 2 with Geoffrey Beaver's Master. BBC got a lot more lax about letting BF using the Master and approved Alex Macqueen's Master in the Seventh Doctor box set, 'Dominion'. And finally in 2014, we got to have Eight have regular tangles with the Master in the majority of the 'Dark Eyes' arc. With my favourite episodes being 'Masterplan' and 'Master of the Daleks'. And they kept ramping up since then like having Eight meet the Bruce Master again in 'Day of the Master' (with light interference with Missy and the War Master'. One with the Decayed Master in the story immediately before this one. And then having two War Master box sets with Eight facing off directly with the War Master. I love how we went from Eight only having one face off with the Master in the TV movie, to being the one Doctor to have the most conflict with multiple Masters in the span of just five years against five different iterations of the Master.
2012 was a good year. It was exciting enough when we were getting stories of Geoffrey Beevers's Master again after such a long gap. But the reveal in UNIT: Dominion was incredible. It felt like the Master was really back, and the introduction of a brand new incarnation was such a great idea. It's amazing how many stories we've had with the Master since then. And yes, the Eighth Doctor getting to meet several Masters has been particularly brilliant. I hope Eight is reunited with Macqueen's Master eventually. I know Macqueen himself has been pretty busy, but he feels like the right match for McGann's Doctor. And agreed on Masterplan and Master of the Daleks - both absolutely fantastic episodes in Dark Eyes.
Its expanded even more now. The War Master series is sublime. And the Masterful boxset is some of the best stuff they have ever done.
I don't like the explaination of the deathworm morphants. Big Finish made the Master's timeline too clean. I always assumed dude did unspeakable things to himself, experimenting to gain immortality for ages, and all that stuff just stacked up into becoming this mutant time lord that can take over bodies, survive burned, or turn into a grey cumsnake. Like he didn't plan for this, it's just the result of fucking with his own genetic code way too much.
A natural end point for the character, especially after becoming a tiger person. But, uh… I’m not gonna put the blame at Big Finish’s door. After New Who showed the Master regenerating for the first time (kinda weird in retrospect we never got that in the classic series), someone had to show how we got there!
It's also not the fault of Big Finish because it was mentioned in the first Eighth Doctor book (asides from the TV movie novelisation and the singular VNA he was in) xD
@@AshleyTMDW I know, but they didn't have to go with that explaination. Everything in Doctor Who has like 12 different canon explaination. Deathworm morphant was but one of the contradictory takes on this new ability. In the movie they act like that's a natural ability of the Master himself.
@@HiperPivociarz ...But that idea sucked. It was just an Americanized take they pulled out of their ass, and hey, DW does that, but this wasnt the BBC doing it.
@@beatles123 So the other times they pulled shit out of their ass is okay because BBC did it?
0:48 - 'with GREAT difficulty...' by the name of River Song, specifically xD
I think they need to give Eric Roberts more projects to fully establish his master more but it’s good they have given some stuff to him which is good.
ohhh YES!!!! damn I need to get into the Eighth Doctor adventures.
I thought Eric Roberts despised being The Master. Great to hear him playing him again though.
Nah, he despised the way he was written and how badly received the movie was through no real fault of the actors'. He loves being The Master.
@@Althalus2010 I'm pleased to hear that then. 😁
I hate how his version of the Master was written so cheesy and corny, with no style, frankly I wasn’t afraid of him because I instinctively knew he would fail!
The scenery chewing between these two is awesome!!
They’re having a scene eating contest
“What’s that? Some kind of laser device?” “It’s a *gun*, you idiot!” “And home made, from the look of it. I never thought you’d be in to arts and crafts.” “I should’ve known you’d turn up eventually.” “Yes, I thought there was a chance I’d run into you.” The Master and the Doctor’s relationship in seven sentences.
Eric Robert's master always sounds like he's lighting up a cigar as he's talking to you
Talks like a mafia boss haha..tis good to hear Eric Roberts as the master again.
It's cool to hear Eric Roberts as The Master again. He never quite felt like the same character in the movie, but the way they've written him here feels far more inline with the show.
If only the script had been better back in the TV movie. It sure wasn't the actors' faults: all of them have proven through Big Finish just how awesome they can be with the right script!
I remember him voicing Mongul in Justice League and Adventures of Superman.
@@davidrust3169Not in my opinion. The Master already was genetically experimenting on himself, so of course he'd still have some cat like qualities, even if they transformed into something akin to a damn snake.
Wow he lookike the older Han Solo
And also Rip Hunter
And Dalton Bond
S-o this Master îs more like older Han Solo
...When did Eric Roberts become absolutely terrifying?
At birth, I'm sure.
He only sounds terrifying, in real life he's an absolute sweetheart!
He should meet this..14th Doctor.
Star 80 broke him, he never got over playing that character.
I'd say to ask Danny Phantom fans, but to be honest, his character there didn't really connect, felt way too generic for what he was supposed to be.
Oh man, I never knew how much I needed this
It's great that Big Finish has expanded on Eric Roberts' Master, gave him more to work with and prove himself as a good Master.
I complained endlessly about his Master in 1996 but I know he’s been to cons since so it seems like he found his groove here and he seems to have far better chemistry with McGann now (they probably got to know each other better at conventions). And I believe in giving credit where it’s due so more power to him.
Yeah he's turned out to be by far the greatest possible choice for an American Master.
Even in the movie I thought he was great in the role, but this just cements it!
