Great video. My home town airport. Started out in the 70s flying on NAC F27s to and from Wellington (1 service a day via Taupo, then Rotorua, in the morning, back in the evening). More recently have flown in from AKL on Beech 1900, ATR and Dash 8. Can remember back to the grass runway and DC3 services.

Now she's for sale as of today - apparently the last Mitsubishi MU2 ever built in 1986. 5 blade MT props really quiet this thing down to the level of most other turboprops and make it faster. It has aux fuel tanks but the custom door STC makes it a bit heavier too. In fact they had to have an emergency fuel dump to make the max landing weight.

My flight was cancelled. I had to phone my son to drive me to Auckland. No announcement, I just saw the luggage been off loaded

The PA-42/1000 is super cool. Best looking twin turboprop, bar none. Love the Stearman action also. Great video and NO music. Perfect.

Am I missing something....the turbine was on but the propeller wasn't turning, then all of a sudden the propeller starts turning.

If Rotorua Regional was international, it would be the best plane spotting Airport in NZ, no doubt. The combination of the close runway and the view of the planes makes a very good plane spotting airport

I was riding in a dc3 ROTC flight at U of I when I heard JFK had been shot.

I used to live right by the Crystal airport in NW Minneapolis. There was a charter airline called Crystal Shamrock that used DC-3s for fishing charters I believe. I could hear them accelerating down the runway and they would go low over our house. The longest runway was 3200' at the time. I think the runways might have been lengthened.

Small correction, that was 23L you departed from. 23R is the the taxiway you would have gone up to get to the departing runway (only used as a backup runway when work is being done on 23L/05R). Great video though, thanks. Could I suggest that you leave the zoom alone though? There really is no point in zooming in: the camera shakes too much and invariably struggles to focus. It is so much nicer to watch if you stick to a wide zoom setting.

I was there when it taxied!! I even got to speak to the pilot when I was there aswell!! He said this plane will be back Monday, Wednesday and Thursday and more days this week!!!
