Kanjira lesson 2
Beginner kanjira lesson 2 (final one)
In this video, I expand a little more on technique and demonstrate the traditional to count the common 8-beat cycle with the hands. I go over an interesting formulaic rhythm based on fives, and I talk about the concept of the korvai.
I probably should've used a simpler example, but I just pulled up something I was working on base on the subdivision of 7 by Ganesh Kumar:

(Kanjira lesson 2 can be found here! : ua-cam.com/video/ALKla5RA71s/v-deo.html) Kanjira is a South Indian frame drum which borrows technique and rhythms from the double-sided drum called mrdangam. The right hand technique is very similar to that of the mrdangam and the tabla. Since the language is borrowed from mrdangam, some of the names of the sound will vary greatly even though there are rea...
Djembe lesson 2
Переглядів 1904 роки тому
In this video I go over the "split hand" technique (borrowed from tabla) and how you can apply this technique to paradiddles and paradiddle-diddles which are basic snare drum rudiments. I also go over a basic 6/8 groove and my special guest Mohammad Firoozi from the band Atash demonstrates his own version of a 6/8 folk rhythm from his home in southern Iran called Banderi. For examples of more t...
Beginner “fusion” djembe lesson 1
Переглядів 1184 роки тому
In this lesson, I go over basic rhythms and subdividing the beat into ones, twos, threes, fours and so on. I also go over accents with 16th notes for a “ghost note” type of effect that really brings life and consistency to your grooves.

I highly recommend it! You can find it here: a...

Tabla Lesson Supplement (Tuning part II)
Переглядів 814 роки тому
In this video, I show you how to pull the last of the straps (the 4th one) onto the pegs which is not an ideal situation. It’s better not to go beyond three per peg, but if you’re in a session and it’s your only dayan (right-hand tabla) and you need a higher pitch, then you do what you can. When your drum gets to this point, it will be time to pull out the pegs and start over with re-pulling th...

🙏🙏👌👌
So wonderful to hear 🙏🙏🙏
This is the power of Indian instruments. Instead of having different instruments for different sounds, we use 1 instrument.
This is awesome!
I’m late!
Nice
Very nice illustration!!! I just bought a Kanjira and these lessons are very useful for me. I am interested in playing Teen Tal on Kanjira. Can you please show in a video? Thank you 🙏 t
Thank you, sir
Bizarre stokes and Konnakol/Solkattu.....
Do you play the mrdangam, sir? The kanjira is an extension of mrdangam. Usually kanjira players start off playing mrdangam first. There are many words of konokol used for mrdangam that can be interpreted on the kanjira, but the kanjira only uses three basic strokes. I do not play mrdanagam. My teacher Ganesh Kumar came up with his own simplified language to help with this. Bharatnatyam dancers use a different language as well. Perhaps I should do another video to explain this more clearly.
I’ve never done Facebook. Just checking in on ya. How you doin’ Man? All good?
Hey Man....How are you?

these jams at red fez were some of the best days ever. Thanks for uploading
LMFAO
OK, at :43 seconds Jason "the man" Mckenzie has started playing Tabla, notices the tabla slightly flat, picks up a silver hammer in the middle of his playing and non-chalantly tunes the tabla with it, perfectly in time with the groove, and then puts the hammer back down and continues playing without a single mistake in his timing. That is called beyond pro: pure virtuosity, fellow you tubers. Know greatness when you see it. Keep it up Jason. - An admirer
Lol I feel you man. Im glad this video exists. Thumbs up
