How America's Quintessential Battleground Broke Down
As Ohio goes, so goes the nation. At least, it used to.
The Buckeye State - the seventh most populous and 34th in size among the states - has been a longtime focus of politicians, pundits and political scientists alike for a simple but peculiar reason.
In each presidential election between 1964 and 2016, the candidate that won Ohio also won the presidency. Ohio’s streak stands as the longest in American history. During this period, Ohio was not only a bellwether, but also the quintessential swing state, with candidates focusing their time and resources on the Buckeye State in election after election to punch their ticket to the White House.
But not anymore. What happened?

Ohio predicted every election except the one that was stolen. That tracks.
What's going on with South Dakota? 🤣 Sometimes I wonder if they purposely mess up a state or two or just rush and do it by mistake.
Ohio and the Rust Belt stayed the same, it's just Dems have become too elitistic and hostile towards the working and middle class Americans, also those without a college degree. They spat on faces of their former electorate demographic which they used to dominate once.

Only in Ohio
It's what happens when a state no longer represents the US as a whole. Ohio used to, but the outward movement of people from cities combined with the shift of the working class towards R from D was major
Ohio is just dominated by the republicans we are also gerrymandered which makes actually trying to change some of the ohio constution harder to change but when we made aborition part of the state constution it showed that Ohio isnt really that right our state likes progressive ideas there is just a stigma against democrats since they are a failing part that doesn't care about the working class
1:31 Love me the capital 'B' black messaging.
NAFTA, it's because of NAFTA. Those manufacturing cities you talked about got fucked over very hard by NAFTA. Those who lost their jobs never forgot
Donald Trump conquered Iowa, he conquered Ohio, he conquered Florida, he conquered Arizona. He’s on the verge of conquering MN and NH.
Well, now we’ve got PA
One minor mistake that needs to be pointed out: George H.W. Bush did NOT win Wisconsin in 1988, thus Trump became the 1st Republican to win both Michigan and Wisconsin since 1984, not 1988, as stated in the video.
I’m Calvin and hobbes
15million votes that appeared and disappeared... Houdini vote machine....
Ai video

Ohio is still a bellwether. The dems cheated in 2020, there’s proof.
As an Ohioan, the majority of people here are loyal to Trump, not republicans.
Nice job smart political commentary- Ohio’s Appalachian voters may fed up with the far left
As a northwest Ohioan. I’m extremely interested in the health and wellbeing of the rivers and lands I live on. Our rivers are mostly muddy partially because of waste management and farm runoff. Getting our land back to a stable balanced and more natural state is exciting. Also natural resources are not currency because no one owns them except those who take care of them. And they understand that they cannot be owned because they are a gift (from God).
The anomaly might be the 2020 election itself. Trump won all but one bellwether counties. Not to mention Biden got 80 million votes. More than any candidate even in 2024 election. I doubt anyone will surpass than until the middle of the next decade. In 2024 Trump won Ohio and won rather handily. My question is what happened to all those Biden voters? Did they exist? Are they anomalies too? Just a question for you smarties out there to ponder.
Why on the 2020 Presidential map at the begining of the video is South Dakota Blue? Biden didnt come close to winning it. It hasnt voted for a Democrat for President since 1964.
Wait... At 1:05... Why did they show South Dakota blue?
2020 should be disregarded from the data set due to the sketchy events around it
your comment should be disregarded because it‘s complete nonsense.
Ohio is so red that it's safe for Nazis from Louisiana to march down the streets!
The shift started in 2010 after the disastrous term of Ted Strickland. Voters really let him know what a disaster he was in 2016 when he got beat by 15. Brown won in 2012 in part Obama was on the ballot. In 2018 Brownwas able to capture the anti trump resentment. 2018 governors race they ran out Cordray and Sutton. No new energetic blood in Ohio Democratic Party
South Dakota?
As a proud Ohioan we suffered enough under democrat rule… we shallow no longer ever again be a democrat shill You struggled my great state, you’ve taken everything from us then forget we exist for next 4 years. Ohio republicans have greatly done amazing for healthcare and gun rights With guns right means more human rights Ohio block Joe Biden repeal of trumps bills that prevented price gorging. Because big pharma loves democrats the same big pharma who enjoys suffering because fat stacks of green cash. dolls in because sick people equals money, dying people means more money Dying children means ultra fat stacks of more money. as libertarian who values individual freedoms Ohio moving to the right just made sense You can’t take everything from us manufacturing if you tell me Regan is a republican illl laugh dead in your face he’s a democrat pretending to be a republican He banned machine guns which is unamerican
Ohio
Ohio: Man, Republicans are great! Florida: Same!
Clinton Dems passed NAFTA
Did all the Democrats from Ohio move to Virginia?
Ohio has more than three cities. They've got seven or eight (Columbus, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Toledo, Dayton, Akron, Canton, Youngstown)
They can see thru mainstream media propaganda
Ohio & Florida has been the most accurate for over 100 years
Ohio was a Democrat stronghold for much of the 1980s despite voting for Reagan twice and Bush in 1988. Celeste was governor, Metzenbaum and Glenn were the Senators. Northeast Ohio was a manufacturing powerhouse. Steel, autos and tires were all made in Northeast Ohio and the UAW, USW and URW were all reliable Democrat voters. The tire factories closed and only Goodyear is headquartered in Akron. Steel left the Mahoning Valley. Chrysler isn't in Twinsburg anymore and Ford tore down a lot of the Brook Park engine plant Add to that the Democrat hostility to coal, natural gas and the white blue collar worker and Ohio has shifted. The same thing has happened to Pennsylvania outside of Philadelphia and it's suburban counties.
Turns out people dont want america to turn into portland, seattle, LA, NyC
1:06 south dakota?
It's almost like 2020 was frauded
those middle class workers could see who was best for them, and it is not the left
You forgot half of the Mid-West 💀 Nebraska North/South Dakota
Down in Ohio
OHIO's large cities has been Losing population and the state has grown about 0.5%. Younger people, college educated were the democrats helping to make it a swing state. With them gone, the state is in a sharp decline...intellectually and so on.
They didnt factor in dems cheating by changing ruels and laws over night with universal mail in voting and ballot harvesting
Because this county is not divided
Ravens are still the old browns and have super bowls compared to these new stinky browns
Only in Ohio
………………………………………..
Kind of like how Florida and Colorado used to be swing states but now they're solidly red and solidly blue respectively.
