The Black Lion Origins Campaign Episode 15
do you know what the best weapon for family members/companions is
My favorite weapon for clan members is this axe in the long variation. It's long enough that the AI has a reasonable chance to land their shots, even on horseback. It's fast enough that they can get their attacks in between blocks and the two handed axe cleave effect means that they'll be reasonably effective even when outnumbered. If you want them to use a one-handed weapon and shield I recommend my long sword. Opinions do vary however. I've heard it said that the best weapon for them is a crafted short version of the romphia. What I've personally found to be the best is this axe, 2 quivers and a noble long bow on horseback (with the perk of course). Watch any of the episodes of my Black Lion Campaign to see how effective that can be.
my couch lance of choice is the goofy 300+ length one you can make Lol
Also I found that if you are in siege you can keep prisoners over limit without escaping. So if I am after field battle than going nearest fief to besiege and profit from prisoners.
Thanks, good tip.
So glad this came out today. Needed the excuse to step away from election coverage.
So true how people are stingy with info about a single-player game.
I'm glad to serve as a distraction.
So if your other party leaders sell prisoners at castles they still get money I thought I was losing out when they did that ?
Yeah that's a win for your finances. Plus it's, maybe the best way to level their roguery.
If the seller is your companion he turn profit to your pocket.
You need a new computer, this is choppy as hell
If this video was too choppy for you, I don't recommend you watch any of my other videos. On the other hand, I just rewatched this video and I think maybe the choppiness might be an issue on your end. This video might be the smoothest I've made. Anyway, thanks for watching and I'm sorry that my lack of state of the art machinery offends you.

@@angrygoldfish9607 You REALLY can't take criticism, even when it's constructive, can you?
Ngl I usually dont like to use axes for mounted combat. It feels like the only situations in which you will use the cleave ability are in fights that are already won. But I do love my short axes for keep defenses and offenses. I use one with 104 swing speed, which was the most I could get. Like super short, super fast axe. I usually take a lot of hits while doing it, but sometimes its worth it. Like sacrificing hp for sheer dps. Necessary if the gate is breached
Yeah, I've tried axes like that and they seem really bad. Not just for the reasons you mention but because they are so short they often don't have the reach to take advantage of the fact that axes can cleave. This axe has enough speed to keep them blocking, which helps to keep you safe, and enough length to keep you far enough away from the enemy that you aren't automatically taking every attack they think about sending your way and it has enough reach to hit more than one target. When you are packed tight in a scrum an overhand attack will usually hit with most any weapon that is meant to be used in melee, that is if it isn't blocked. Without the reach, you're better served to use a 2h sword. You can make a falx blade that is silly short with 116 speed. My favorite weapon to use in a scrum is actually my halberd. It has a base damage if 201 and can kill with crush through damage even when blocked. It has a length of 120 but I can spam those overhand attacks and make enough space for my boys to take the upper hand. Anyway, that's my take on short weapons. I'm glad you found something you like that works for you. Thanks for watching.
@angrygoldfish9607 the cleave works because it's not a tightly packed area, it's just me on my own on one of the sides vs a horde of enemy units usually (usually I have archer support). And you don't need to block if you just kill them first. Even if I do get hit by the guys I didn't kill, my attacks buffer trough so I don't lose any moment of attacking. And since I have amazing armor and almost 200 hp, losing 70-80 hp to pushback a gate breach is worth it
As I said, I'm glad you found something that works for you.
@@angrygoldfish9607 I will be trying out the really short two handed tho. Need to figure out if its better than my regular short axe
In my campaign, i am almoat entirely using a Glaive. Well I made some glaives of my own, Masterwork Glaives at that, gave one to every companion and family member. With the use of a mod, I can have higher skill limit (I put it up to 500, with 0.5x learn as minimum) and added a slash through mod. It is honestly the most satisfying thing in the game, going in and slashing through so many troops at once. If you want to try Glaive, either find one or use the following parts : Glaive head (mid size), Black tail thing (either leave at mid or change it slightly), hardened oak shaft (mid size) and either nothing or any bottom part that doesn't change stat.
That's great. I'm glad you found something you enjoy so well. Thanks for the tip.
@angrygoldfish9607 although I made a small change in my glaive recipe so that I can actually craft legendary versions of it. Same with the fast axe I used, just changed 1 part to T5 so that I can make legendary. Because as you probably know, in order to be able to craft masterwork and/or legendary weapons, the average tier of parts must meet a minimum threshold (4.5 for legen and 3.5 for masterwork). I only recently learned this after it looked it up 😂 my character in game makes great use of these weapons, he is a literal killing machine.
Doesn't it make you kinda sad when you watch people play this game and they're not even trying to optimize their combat experience? They're like "I'm gonna put all my attribute points in social instead" and I'm thinking, well for one it's great that the game accommodates all kinds of players but... they'll never know the joy that is being a devastatingly destructive force on their battlefields. I'm glad you're optimizing and enjoying the game for all it has to offer.
@@angrygoldfish9607 in my first playthrough, my character was focused around having high social, intelligence and bow skills. I saw myself struggling in combat a bit at that time. This time, my character is way too overpowered with all of these combat skills. Because I had this mod (XP.tweaks) and raised cap to 500, my guy has 260 one handed, 320 two handed, 460 polearm (lol), 500 riding, 300 throwing, 260 bow 180 crossbow, 330 smith... Because these skills are so high, my battle influence is also crazy high. One thing I can tell with these high skills is that the riding becomes very overpowered. The "way of the saddle" perk increases charge damage with skill level so that means with 500 riding, I do +75 damage with rams
I know, if you've watched my video "how to optimize your character in Bannerlord" you'll know you can get 450 riding without the use of mods. Riding, for me, is the least fun of the over levelable skills because it is kinda broken. I don't like using mods because they rarely balance the game. I like dominating a battlefield but I like to feel like I earned it. I did the same in my first playthrough. I leveled social and bow skill thanks to the advice of well meaning UA-camrs. That's a lot of the reason why I started making my own videos.
Wait, do the extra points from the smithing perk go over the cap? Is this the same for the extra atribute points from smithing and athletics?
Yes, the extra focus points you get from the blacksmithing perk will take you over the cap of 5 focus points and allow you to level up your skills farther. No, your attribute points cap at 10 and will go no further. I did test for this. I always get just 8 attribute points in endurance, vigor and control and get the last 2 attribute points, in each from athletics and blacksmithing perks. I do either control or vigor perks but do them both together so I have 10 attribute points. Then I'll cap out my skill level for those skills. Then I'll go to the arena master and respec athletics and blacksmithing and cap out the other set of skills.
@angrygoldfish9607 that's very nice. Will use it in my current run after maxing out the endurance skills
How did you get so many legendary armors ? Do you fight as a small party of 80-150 troops and fight single lords or do you fight big battles with 800-1000 troops vs. 1500 troops ? The loot is usually related with the number of high level troops you damage vs. the size of your party in relation with the enemy party. Meaning the odds may better if win 1:2 of 500 vs. 1000 or 1:2 of 150 vs. 300 or 80 vs. 150 - i do not know with the smaller party the odds of loot drop ? as i carry with me for many game years 350-450 troops all the time. I have high roguery by-the-way. Ideally i believe is to fight alone with you companions maybe as 50 troop party against 200 troops and then you will get all the loot. If everyone kills 3 enemy's and you kill 20-35 you usually win. You fight even 1:4 ratio...
For your character prison breaks to level up roguery. You have to follow a war and find out here they put the prisoners' usually with enciclopedia. You can do 1-2 or 3 prison breaks if you have good luck and wait a while but the prisoners must be drop off..that that is not happening to often - the big enemy army can keep the prisons with it them for quite a while and if they drop them off - is usually in one location. If you are a mercenary you can trap 2 or 3 lords - get them to a separate castles each or towns but close to each other - and then - renounce the contract ( you will lose the influente sadly = future money ) and then do 3 prison breaks on the 3 castles/towns ( then be again a mercenary and start again ) . For companions...is hard...i did no manage to do it to well. The only way was to create a companion party of only bandit troops donated but mounted ( Horse Archers or Javelin CAV ) and then let the party fight bandits. The companion will get decent experience but not much.
Weill be considering this IF I smith in the Aserai campaign - I MAY smith as an emergency saving device if we're getting overwhelmed... Pretty sick dude!
Thanks for taking a look man. Blacksmithing is too good to ignore. Great weapons, over leveling weapon skills and three extra attribute points? I don't know how anyone turns their nose to that.
@@angrygoldfish9607 Mostly the time taken. Three hours? Six? I cannot remember how long it took me, and maybe it was inefficient, as I was an amateur, but it was painfully slow to me the first time I did it... Maybe you can change my mind and I'll add it to the campaign...
What a fine sword.
Haha, I know it doesn't have any wild exaggerated stats but the fact that it's only weakness is its length and that can be compensated for by the player... It's pretty darn great.
What about F6 for horse archers? They usually use hit and run tactic. And didnt tested properly F1+F5 for archers but it should be similar to F1+F4 when they move long distance without shot.
F6 is basically the same as F1 F3 in my experience. I do use F1 F3 while doing the " fish barrel" if my enemy manages to reach the horse archer line and I need to buy a few seconds so I can direct them to reform the circle in a better location. As a whole though F6 or F1 F3 for horse archers, in my opinion, is trash. They are not accurate while in motion (sure they'll get some kills but nothing like if they were static). It's just a great way to burn through their quivers for not much. While at the same time putting them in danger of running into trees, getting congested on dismounted horse, landmarks or invisible walls (making them easy pickings for enemy foot archers and infantry) also they are much more in danger of enemy cavalry while in motion. It's just bad. The difference between F1 F4 and F1 F5 comes into play when your units reach the edge of the map. With F1 F4 they will awkwardly try to run through the enemy lines and then try and kite the enemy from the other side. This isn't good and should be watched out for. When you F1 F5, when your units reach the edge of the map, they will retreat out of the battle. So pick your poison there. For the purposes of performing the "easy kill box" either will work as what you want them to do is run and gun and both commands will accomplish that.
That horse is pumping charge damage, damn😂 I have a speed and maneuverability focused horse, but maybe I should switch
The horse is a wadar hot blood and I run the nimble mount perk not the full speed perk. I like speed and maneuverability over charge damage too. Most of your charge damage comes from your riding skill level. If you really want to do charge damage I recommend you watch my "How To Optimize Your Character" video.
@@angrygoldfish9607the short two-handed axes are the perfect weapon for sieges especially. You can cause some absolute carnage with a fast swinging axe like the one you made or that bearded axe (I have one but only a normal one. Still is great for this purpose)
I'm glad you like it. I did mention it is best used when flanking large groups of infantry. Which, yes, you'll find in sieges. Thanks for watching.
@@angrygoldfish9607I have now unlocked all of the parts although I made a slightly different axe with the axe head before the one you used (min size) and a different handle. Got a 100 length axe with 99 speed and 102 damage (quality) which is amazing. I am still yet to get a more refined version just yet but these super fast two-handed axes are lethal. Also just got a glaive, very nice weapon to slaughter
That axe sounds amazing! You should make a video on how to make that. At the very least can you name the specific parts you used? Unless you have all the parts unlocked the order could be jumbled. I'm glad you're enjoying two-handed axes. They're one of my favorite weapons.
Nice, it has better stats than mine does with the Falx blade. I have a question though. for the case of companions, does the weapon being thrustable make it end up having less dps than a swing-only sword or not really?
I don't think so. Either way I prefer to be able to thrust as sometimes it's the only way to land a hit. Like when you're on the battlements of a fief fighting cheek by jowl with enemies and friendlies alike. Or in crammed quarters like in a prison break.
It's gimmicky, and some people will shake their finger against it, but it SEEMS legit to me, at least to SMITH over and have 300+...this also explains how a past character had 350+ two handed, family members have had more than 330 bow before too. I thought it was a bug, and reloaded the saved game a week before...
The fact that the smithing perk can take you to 370 in one and two handed skill levels, for me, seems like proof that the game is just function as intended and I love it. This game was never meant to be played and dropped without enjoying the benefits that come from raising a horde of clan members. Did you watch to the end and see the bit where I proved the existence of "geniuses" in the game?
@@angrygoldfish9607 What? No, I watched it all, do you mean the legendary level 62 you mentioned?
No I mean that some clan members are born with an extra attribute point. I call them geniuses. Your first main character of a campaign's first born is always a genius.
@@angrygoldfish9607 Ahh, yep, got that part. So it's an interesting concept, basically a series of 'fortunate' rolls, where they may end up with more than 5 focus points... Is there any way to train them without these save reloads or is it purely random?
@@angrygoldfish9607 Well, good, because in this Aserai campaign, that's going to be the protagonist - Wazu Bahn( Was Zuvan haha). So they get an extra attribute pt, already assigned? I've never noticed this(or paid attention)
Nice one, I mainly use my polearm from horseback though, haven't leveled athletics yet. How do you have so many crafting materials available, and without being encumbered?
Well, I can't recommend leveling athletics to 330 enough. It nets you 80 extra health just in the final perk alone, 160 if you raise a clan member right and make them your new main character. Especially if you are already spending the attribute points in endurance to level riding. I've been playing this campaign for more than 100 game years at this point. Saving all t5 and t6 swords I get and smelting them. At my peak I had a clan of 86 clan members, every one of them having at least 250 blacksmithing. What makes you think I wasn't encumbered? I keep all of my crafting materials in the same city. When I'm done smithing I put them in my city stash. Good questions and thanks for watching.
@@angrygoldfish9607 thanks for the tips, i'm doing a horse archer/polearm build,so I havent gotten around to it yet, but I'll need to for when I start sieging I'm sure lol. and that's wild, youre a machine😂
I prefere to push throw of the main wall weaker side and switch to 2h poleaxe which is one hit killer. But I dont know if more hits you do gives you more XP. Than short sword will be best pick.
With 330, 370 or 490 one-handed skill my short sword doesn't have any trouble one shoting enemies with its 98 base cut damage, as you see after the smithing portion. It one shot an elite cataphract from foot. With 97 swing speed to boot and the ability to use it in gang alley fights and prison breaks and with the shield breaker modifier... I feel justly proud of this sword. As always, thank you for watching and I appreciate your comments.
I dont understand how you can get more than 330 without cheating. Is there any superbonus when you get 10 atribute on companion?
No, as you see in the very beginning of the video, if you are careful while raising your clan members and you purposefully stack focus points in one-handed, bow or riding skill, you can get a maximum of 8 focus points in one of those skills (7 in athletics). You can also get a 9th and 6th focus point in one-handed and two-handed skills respectively, by leveling your blacksmithing skill and choosing the perk that gives you an extra focus point in those skills. You will of course need 10 attribute points for these skills if you're going to max out any skill but the levels come from the extra focus points either from carefully raising your clan members and or the blacksmithing perk. Thank you for asking this question. I was afraid I wasn't clear enough in the video on how this was done so I'm glad to have the chance to write it out for you. I hope this is more clear. Thank you for watching.
Yes I got the point. Thank you. I remember that somehow I manage to have more than 5 focus points but was scarry that its useless to go above 5. I will test athletics with 5+2 skills could be reasonable OP.
Sometimes I have a really hard time trying to discern what you're trying to say. I think I illustrated pretty well that each over leveled skill is anything but useless. Anyway, I think you'll likely enjoy having over leveled athletics. Thanks for watching.
I love the testing! This is very helpful!
Thank you! It was interesting trying to get the timing just right and I had to figure out how to have two pictures up at the same time too. So that's a new skill for the old tool bag.
thanks for the commands! I don't mind devastating my enemy!
Haha you're welcome.
did you get a new mic?
No, it's just really cold here so I was wearing two different hoods with my headset while recording. That might account for the difference.
Do you use any mods for this or vanilla only?
This is all vanilla only.
@@angrygoldfish9607yeah, in my campaign the smithing is also vanilla (I tried to add a mod but it didn't work) other than a small mod to recover stamina when moving on the map. I can't seem to get my hands on good two-handed axe parts, have the first 3 heads as of now and a few handles but I can't make useful weapons with them so I adapted to two-handed swords that are also really powerful, made a couple iterations and gave the other ones to my companions. I am running a companion-heavy campaign, don't have enough companions to rely on yet and I am making them like mounted fian champs 😂 I would like to get them swingable polearms like glaives which is my current goal for this campaign
Theres also a hot key to put your shield on your back so you don't have to drop it.
That's very true but it's better to drop it because putting it on your back takes time. Having a shield also weighs you down even if it's on your back. It's much better to be able to move more quickly so you can stay out ahead of your enemies landing shots through their blocks. There is the rare occasion that I will hang onto my shield. If I'm facing a ton of archers for instance. But even then, the battlefield is littered with shields usually and you can just pick up a new one or just keep the enemy melee between you and their archers. They act as a pretty good shield themselves. Anyway, thanks for watching the video.
badass halberd, glad people still find cool things in this game
Thank you! I'm glad people are still looking for cool things in this game. Thanks for watching.
This also my favorite but preference is 170 reach while 2h on horseback + Coach strike is funny with instant recharge of strike.
Gotta love a game that lets people play it the way they like. Thanks for watching.
Now i just gotta unlock all the parts
If you watch episode 14 of the Black Lion Origins Campaign it should help you get the parts.
People still play this game?
I always seem to find myself going back to it, there really isnt that many warfare games with the same amount of personal customization Mount & Blade provides. I always eventually get bored after a long playthrough, and yet I always find myself going back to it. Despite it's rough states, its really a great game when you plan everything out
Haha I've been stuck on this game for the last year, with no end in sight. It's a beautiful thing.

Isn't there a specific shaft you can use to give it a couch lance option too?
There are, several of them. I chose this haft to keep the weapon short while keeping the tier of the part high enough that the item could be legendary. I wanted it short so that it would be a viable weapon to use on foot.

I'm glad you're enjoying the series. I'm leveling companions from day one. I'm not sure what you mean. What kind of leveling are you looking for?
@@angrygoldfish9607 oh it’s just you seem to retreat them and not let fight in the battles so was wondering how you level them so well
Oh I see what you mean, thank you for clarifying for me. Well I'm not actually retreating them. It's not as though I just F1 F7 and let them leave the map. They are getting athletics and archer skills, which is exactly what I want them to get. Later when I have better armor on them, better weapons for them, higher medicine skill level for myself and real troops for them to fight next to, I won't be so precious with them. At this point though, if I used them aggressively they would spend all their time in the dirt and or dying on me. Did you know that if you level athletics, bow and riding on a companion they can get a 2.5 loyalty modifier when governing from perks? That is enough to counter all of the loyalty disadvantages of using them in a "wrong culture" fief, plus .5 to boot. It's like the game is trying to tell you how to make the best soldier companions by making those companions the best governors as well. *Edit- So I rewatched this episode a bit and I am actually retreating everyone out of the fights.
@@angrygoldfish9607 gotcha really like the way your playing your campaign it’s very different to how I play but now I think ill give your way a go on my next playthrough I’ve been a bit disappointed that so many kingdoms got wiped out early on my current one not my doing either
That's a bummer. In my main campaign 3 or 4 kingdoms have perished and it's a major bummer. I hope they will implement a system that will create new kingdoms that way you don't just end up with dead campaigns.
Does somebody know hoe to open the encyclopedia on a ps4?

I hope that helps. From what I gathered from the video you press the "touch pad" button. Maybe he means the thumb sticks? IDK I am strictly a pc gamer (a little Nintendo Switch half a decade ago).
@@angrygoldfish9607 ah yes It workes thx
I hav the game but it was ok to take the less expensive one,or?
That's so cool! How're you liking it so far? I don't know about the cheaper option, sorry. I bought the game prerelease and then waited till about a year ago to start playing. The more expensive option may just be the soundtrack and some unnecessary extra tidbits. I doubt you're missing out. Tell me about your campaign how's it going so far?
@@angrygoldfish9607 it should be here (the game) in like 15 hoursso I don't have it yet
Well that's really exciting! I can't wait to hear about your exploits.
@@angrygoldfish9607 My campaign is so far so good I joind an army as I was clan tier 1but I have always huge problems with the gold and can't even afford food for my army
@@Mr.Rios-dk3rvoh shoot, sounds to me like your warband might be too big. You don't have to have a maximum size warband if you don't want to. If you're happy with the size of your warband though, you might consider attacking villages and forcing them to give you goods instead of troops. Those goods usually come with food and you can sell the loot from those fights to pay your troops wages.
Heya brother, I still get a TON of players asking for early game help. Do you think your playlist is optimal for them or is it too much to handle for new players? I'd be happy to link your maps and or vids, especially if you were willing to do more 'smithing' tutorials....?
Hey sorry, I've been visiting family. Yeah I think my stuff is ok for new players. I have some tidbits of bannerlord wisdom sprinkled into all my episodes that can be hard to find elsewhere. Thanks for thinking of me. I have a couple more blacksmithing patterns up my sleeve too.
@@angrygoldfish9607 If you'd be interested in making a fairly comprehensive episode on smithing, including a 8-12 minute period covering some badass weapon builds, I'd be happy to send people your way.
How about if I catalog all the episodes in which I already cover smithing? I could put them all in a play list.
fastest army rise is to be vassal take as much lords possible to your Army and siege your favorite town you want to own they will donate garison. You get town in vote for yourself and enjoy 300 units.
Yup, being a vassal is definitely easy mode. I don't think anyone will argue with you there.
ouch, that last battle man was rough.
Yeah, what happened there was the enemy lord had some pikemen that had their pikes braced and I ran into them. Keep in mind I can hardly see what I'm doing in night battles like that. I overexpose the footage in editing so you can actually see better what was happening then I could. I should have clued into what was going on the first time I got hit though. Braced pikes make a different sound when they hit you. It is a reality of the game though that sometimes you get dropped earlier than you'd like. Especially when you're an aggressive front line general like me.
Does the ROS mod not work for you or is it a situation where you want more realism?
Yeah, this is meant to be a true vanilla play through. No mods, cheats or exp gaining exploits. I want to show that the game doesn't need help to be good and fun. I also just really dislike using mods.
every time you get to half health I start sweating. STOP IT PULL BACK!
Haha its hard switching from the Black Lion to the Butcher... I'm not quite so bullet proof in this campaign. I also need to get my pavise shield back. The heavy heater is lighter and good on foot but the pavise coverage can't be beat on horseback.
holy crap 180 kills in that last battle.
Haha, I can't take too much credit. They did most of the work, lining up to be killed like that.
@@angrygoldfish9607 yeah I love your RP explanation for why they were doing that.
Lol thanks. You've gotta work pretty hard sometimes to make excuses for why the game works the way it does. But it's worth it. It's a great game.
Great video.
Thank you. There are more on the way.
Crazy how fast you can build an army.
It's much faster than recruiting from your own villages. The only down side is, no noble troops.
10 vigor and endurance is waste of attributs. I think it's better finish build with 4x7 attributes at lvl 40-48.
Well, I only have to actually get 8 endurance and 8 vigor. The extra 2 that I gain in each comes from my athletics and blacksmithing perks. I think it's far from a waste seeing as 90% of the game is the combat. Why would you then not make the combat your priority? Those two points represent 28 skill levels. Which equates to 28 health and a measure of movement speed, both on horseback and on foot, in the case of endurance. In vigor, that is a loss of attack speed and damage for my chosen weapon. In short, I disagree. I've played the game as you suggest, with 7 endurance and 7 vigor and I found it to be a waste. But that's one of the wonderful things about this game. I can play it my way and make videos supporting the reasons why I do and you can do the same. So long as we're having fun we are all winners. Btw in "The Black Lion Campaign" I manage 4x10 attributes at level 52. Stay tuned to see how it's done.
