This game I played a Philidor Defense as black, and got into a very interesting middlegame. The resulting endgame was also interesting, but mostly because of how difficult it was to play.

    Oof. I can see why people were saying it's not very good when compared to the originals. Sure, the art is great, but there's no animation so you don't really feel immersed. That said, the spells are still animated and the effects look nice. I'm divided.

      It's a fun game. There are a couple of very interesting things going on, with the strains and everything. It looks way worse though, and that's saying something since we're comparing to a flash game from 2007/2009.

      Oh, that's just an infinite money glitch. You put an expensive item in a slot on an odd page, go to that slot on an even page, and sell it. That way the item from the even page gets sold for the price of the item on the even page. I just went and bought a bunch of the least expensive item, to make a profit selling it. Buying a lucky charm costs 30, and the corruptor sells for 165, so I make a 135 profit every item.

      Yea, it was a weird interaction on the discord. A user called Rubicate basically asked about a video of mine where I referenced to the NaN zone as the debug mode since I believed that was what it was. It's not, it just reads a bunch of junk data which is why the illusions start cycling through all of their possible animations. However, they did know that most flash games did have a frame advance option where devs usually put their debug mode. For some flash games this is actually in one of the dropdown menus, but they also knew that the keyboard shortcut is usually ctrl-enter. So a quick test later, the real debug mode glitch was found. This probably works for most flash games, with the same keyboard shortcut.

    I see the issue with your game play here on the Final Boss. To maximize effect of Bleed debuff on for longer time: Use Breached to increase Bleed damage Use Cripple to slow the enemy Use Shockwave to focus drain the enemy. Use Warp Strike to focus drain the enemy. Also, you did not have much healing, which means it is actually better to bring a healer like Herregods. Herregods's Hydro Shield is good at shielding your teammate from suiciding due to Divine Strike.

    Have you tried other combinations for speed run such as the following: End game equipment: Pulse Katana (High Power + Speed) Command Headset (High Power + Speed) Aegis of Hermes (High Power + Speed) / Shadow Cloak (High Def + Speed) Immortal Capsule (High Def + Speed) / Oracle Orb (High Power + Speed, survival rate too low though) Nature/Fire Strain (Stone Form Debuff): Cripple (-35% Speed) Magma Beam (-50% Def) Stone Form (50% Pow + Def) => Wound, Sear, Venom Claw Haze (Severely reduce hit chances, therefore increasing survival rate) Blood Bath (Heal by attacking enemies) Additional comment: 50% power increase in 3 debuff creates a lot of damage over time, evolve on Stone Form for Empower (Frequent because it does not heal/damage) Lightning/Shadow Strain (Multi Bleed Focus Drain): Cripple (-35% Speed) Weave (-50% Def) Wound => Pulse, Chaos Wind Shockwave, Warp Strike Blood Bath (Heal by attacking enemies) Curse (Good for removing enemy buff) Additional comment: Bleed (Wound) with Breach (Weave) with 7 hits from Pulse and Chaos Wind alone with focus drain moves to prolong the debuffs

    • @sowwhats3784
      @sowwhats3784 Рік тому

      Since the endgame equipment is the least thought-through, I'll leave that to last, so I can write this comment while thinking about it. I did definitely try to look at other strain paths. In my first attempt I even ran the Lightning/Shadow strain combo you mentioned. I didn't use Blood Bath or Curse because Blood Bath is single-target and Curse is not as useful as Disrupt. You can check out that video here: ua-cam.com/video/hYHoqZNeUrY/v-deo.html . The main takeaway I had was that Wound is very good, but to take out some of the big bosses, you really wanted stronger burst. Either Arc Flash or Blast. But that could work with Lightning, you can run Disrupt/Arc Flash/Wound/Pulse/Chaos Wind/Weave and either Shockwave, Warp Strike or Regenerate. Probably Regenerate, which, again, is what I did before. Another minor issue is that Wound+multi-hit is pretty slow animation-wise. All in all, it has potential, but I think Fire/Frost (where Frost is actually just Frost Charge and a second stun at times) is probably stronger. Outside of Zone 6 of course where Wound makes the Dream Keepers relatively easy, whereas they're a pain for Fire/Frost. I quickly theorized Fire/Nature as a build, and in that older video I also wrote a quick bit in the description about it: "Lightning/Fire- Same one+Nature secondary. Basically to turn Sonny into the Cleric. The AI has a lot higher damage scaling, so we could just try to keep them alive. That might be good, but healing honestly isn't that much of an issue, even with Lightning/Shadow. Regenerate is sick, and Disrupt is a good heal more often than not. There are some sick abilities in the Nature tree, Healing Wave and Harmony are great together, and Nature has a great buff in Stone Form too". I did test it since that point, but that was a while ago. I can remember that I was not as happy with it as I was with Frost, but I can't remember exactly why. It might just be that Frost Charge is absolutely busted and Stone Form is just not at the same level. I do remember that most Nature attacks had pretty poor power scaling, but that's not necessarily an issue. Finally the endgame equipment: It turns out that you don't actually want to max out speed necessarily in Zone 8. You can't really get to a point where you're faster than the Warlocks (I don't think), and it's mostly about finding a good speed range such that Kara uses her EMP blast or Zakk uses his Shadow Sweep at an opportune time. Having said that, Pulse Katana could be a good option. I did not consider keeping any items from earlier Zones tbh. Since the new gear has more combined stats than any previous gear (outside of the weapon from Zone 6 which is absurd for some reason, but we can't keep it in the speedrun because you want to maximize speed in Zone 7), it's usually better to just buy new gear and try to find a way to get just barely enough of every non-power stat, and maximizing power afterwards. In every Zone other than 8, this isn't very hard, but 8 is different because there's also a bit of variance in the stats you get. But you're right, the Zone 8 items can still definitely be improved.

      @@sowwhats3784 I played all 10 combinations of strains by experimenting with the save file between Zone 6 to 8. Fire/Frost is good for damage, but really bad for survivability which leads to a lot of retries especially the last stage before 1st Form Carbon. One of the possible ways to increase the speed for the speed run is reducing the number of turns used for healing. Blood Bath and Haze are really good for those. Blood Bath is one of the most useful passive technique, since you attack with a lot of damage and it heals proportionate by that much. The best part that is that you achieve both attack and heal in a single turn (so this save a lot of time and save a lot of turns). At max 41% is powerful enough to recover most damage from even Black Mirror. You are sort of unkillable if you are able to continuously spam high damage attacks. Coupling with higher defense for your team mates, then enemies will usually try to target you but fail to kill you because of Blood Bath healing. For that reason, I also prefer Herregods over Zakk because then I do not need to equip healing abilities and I trust Herregods to heal Kara. Haze from Nature Strain is ridiculous because of multi-target Blind for 2~3 turns. Reducing hit chance by 50% for a slower enemy means the chances that enemy can hit your team is very slim. This drastically reduce the need to heal. Coupled with Kara's EMP Blast at the right time means Blind can be lengthened for the next Blind. In fact, Nature/Lightning build with Haze/Shockware is also quite broken for that reason, the only downside is that without Breach, damage is a lot less, but you do gain 4 hit Pulse which is great for evolution (Final Hour on Pulse on Wounded Carbon (Chaos Storm) is quite a sight to see, almost 50000+ damages in 1 single turn due to 4x stacking). Treating Sonny as a Cleric is the less effective way of using Nature. I tried Nature Healing Wave/Harmony combination but those takes too much slots/points/turns. The really powerful thing about Nature is Stone Form. If you use Stone Form and Wound/Sear/Venom Claw/Magma Beam, since +50% attack increase is ridiculous on 3 damage-over-time attacks along with breached enemy. With evolution of Empower on Nature, it is +100%. Coupled with teammate attacks on +100% wounded enemies, it is quite ridiculous. Each wound can be 2000~3000 extra damages and 5000+ for Carbon (Chaos Storm). In a turn, the extra damages from Wound can be 6000~9000 (because 3 teammate all attacking). In 4 turns, the amount of extra damage from all the +50% debuffs Wound/Burn/Venom is about 30000~40000, which is quite comparable to Blast. Other comments: Curse is useful because it is 2 turns relative to Disrupt 4 turns. Its main use case is for removing Stone Form on Spartan which makes Spartan extremely tough to kill and its likelihood to 1 shot. For Zone 8, you can be faster than Warlocks with the right equipment and a passive speed boost ability using Lightning/Shadow (good for casting Snare -80%). It is surprisingly effective because if you got your turn before Warlocks and cast Snare, it is likely Warlocks cannot Shade Strike (+85 focus). With 80% speed loss, you can almost prevent Warlocks from attacking you for 4 of your turns (2 turn Snare * 2 your turn for 1 Warlock turn), and by the time Warlocks is recovered, your 4 turn Snare is back.

      @@sowwhats3784 Out of the 10 combinations, there are 4 ways of doing decent damage. 1. Direct high damage like Blast/Arc Flash (Frost/Fire, Frost/Lightning, Shadow/Fire) 2. Boosted damage per hit using multiple multi-strikes with Bleed, along with Slow/Focus Drain to prolong the status (Nature/Lightning, Lightning/Shadow) 3. Boosted damage over time using Stone Form/Breached on Sear/Venom Claw (Nature/Fire) 4. Boosted Piercing attacks using Shatter/Drill Strike with Ice Wall for protection (Nature/Frost) Boosted refer to either Stone Form or Breached.

      @@HANBOJIAN I can definitely try to incorporate some of this. I prefer Vera over Herregods if you really want a healer, but Vera + Blood Bath to keep yourself alive could be worth it. I'll definitely test that one. I did also look at Nature a bit yesterday. It seems mediocre. Not because it's bad or anything. Haze seems good, Stone Form seems great, that's about it. Ground Shock is interesting but probably not consistent enough. Stone Form does seem a touch weaker than Frost Charge, which is a pretty absurd move. Venom Claw is probably just a worse Sear, which is already a move I was more or less forced into for zone 6. Another drawback of going into Nature for those 2 attacks is that it costs 6 ability points for those 2 attacks, whereas Frost Charge and Mind Freeze only cost 4. One thing I'm interested in testing as well is Lightning first into Fire primary+Lightning. Routing that is hard though, since there is some serious 8 moveslot syndrome going on. I can think of like 13 moves I want right now, and I'm probably missing out on a couple. Futhermore, you can definitely just do a run and upload it to www.speedrun.com/sonny_2017 . That's the best way to convince me for sure. And it would be cool to have someone else run this game.

      @@sowwhats3784 I guess I can try to learn how to do a speedrun (Not too sure how to set everything up properly). I might try this weekend. After sometimes of playing Sonny repeatedly, what is good is killing enemies fast without the need to heal yet with high level attack/speed equipments. Herregods is worse of a healer than Vera. But Herregods can Pacify (Weaken) + Hydro Shield (+50% Def) + Eco Strike (Pierce) Veradux is good for Electro Bolt (Dispel 1 positive buff), but Veradux is SUPER bad for Carbon Form 2 which he loves to dispel Carbon's Chaos Storm which makes your battle much more difficult. This is actually the real reason I rather have a high level Herregods. Lightning/Fire is a nasty mix because both strains are too similar, so you are not really concentrating your ability spending (Fire/Frost is more efficient for more Fire base damage). But other than that, there are a few ways to play that 1. Use Snare/Shockwave/Warp Strike for survivability 2. Direct damage build: Disrupt -> Arc Flash AND/OR Blaze Aura -> Blast (but this takes at least 4 slots) 3. Multi-Bleed build (Fast evolution): Wound -> Magma Beam -> Flame Jet -> Pulse Ground Shock is good only when full maxed out with high critical build. Then it is something like a minor version of Shockwave. But yeah, definitely not consistent enough for normal use case.

      Well, Blast has the strongest base scaling in the game, at 225% power, and has +120% crit damage, which is insane since generic crit damage is only +50%, so a crit goes from 337.5% power to 607.5% power. The only attack that compares is Arc Flash, which has 160% power as a base, but +202% crit damage, meaning that if you crit, you do 564.8% power in damage. Static Potential vs Apocalypse actually makes it closer, since Apocalypse isn't a +100% damage multiplier, but instead a +100% base scaling modifier (The game kinda lies here.), but Static Potential is in fact a +50% damage multiplier. Blast+Apocalypse does 877.5% power in damage, whereas Arc Flash+Static Potential does 847.2% power. Now note here that with this damage, in the lategame, we're already at 5 digits worth of damage, but we haven't even accounted for Breach, which is a more than 2x damage multiplier most of the time. (Blast doesn't actually get stronger with lvl ups, it just increases crit damage, so the base scaling actually gets overtaken by 2 other attacks: Warp Strike lvl 5 has a 231.25% power scaling, and Blood Strike overtakes it at lvl 3, and ends up at 250% power scaling at lvl 5. A close contender is Chaos Wind, which has a 70% power scaling per hit x 3 hits, but it also doesn't scale power per level.) Source: sonny.fandom.com/wiki/Blast and other links on the same site. The only issue with Arc Flash is that the Disrupt-Arc Flash-Frost Charge-Arc Flash doesn't work, but Blaze Soul-Blast-Frost Charge-Blast does. Which is sad, because Warp Strike is sick, Shockwave is great too, Disrupt is strictly better than Blaze Soul, and Pulse allows for Wound shenanigans, which makes beating enemies like the Dream Keepers a lot easier. Also note that I originally routed the game for a Lightning-based build, so when I reached Dr. Klima, I had my mind set on Blast not oneshotting self, since Arc Flash doesn't oneshot self from full, but Blast is more powerful, which is why I died there.

    28:25 this is something I can actually explain. For some reason, every move that doesn't have an "instantly hitting" animation (such as withdrawal in Sonny 2 - those moves cannot miss ... also, I believe it's impossible to miss a stunned target but I didn't test this thoroughly) actually has its hit rate capped - probably at 99. Thus, there is always at at least a 1% chance to miss with any attack in this game - even with master strike, leading strike or lightning bolt. By the way ... some interesting strats that you are using here. I especially like that you waited for CDG to go off cooldown because this is actually faster than just hitting the third devourer (like I did).
