    Hi, I've read that no region is exempt from the wealth tax anymore since now they are imposing a federal solidarity tax. This applies to madrid and the andulucia region.

    The portuguese 10% tax for pensions/ssa seems better than spain’s position on pensions/ssa which is seen as income and is hit at much higher rates. Are there options in spain that would make spain more competitive, whether deductibles or taxable brackets, etc? My personal situation, pension/ssa income (under $50k category) and selling a house that will set me up with a Golden Visa plus extra for financial planning strategies. Would i be better off in spain or portugal?

    I stumbled into your Site accidentally. My wife and I are retired Americans considering moving to Spain. My pension comes from having worked for the State of California plus Social Security income and it is in excess of $100,000.00. I pay income taxes from the earnings here in the US. Are such pensions taxed in Spain as the decision to move rests on the tax that I have to pay in Spain?

    Excellent video. Thank you. We are 66YO retired educators visiting Poland and Estonia after helping a new school open in Lviv. We are seriously thinking of selling our Portland condo and moving to Europe. Is renting a better option than owning a home for expats in Spain? We always wanted to own, but now it seems that putting the cash in CDs is wiser than purchasing a home. Plus the healthcare is better in Spain than in the US. Your thoughts? Dean & Cindy

    So basically, if you have a few quid, dont become resident in Spain unless you're happy to pay through the nose to the Spainish government 😂 Amazing how uncompetitive spain is for anyone with wealth

    Thanks for this. You said there is no way to avoid CSG and CRDS. I do not believe that is accurate. If you are in receipt of the UK state pension or your spouse is, you can get a S1 card and the UK then pays for your health care as a French resident. Tn that event, you are exempt from both CSG and CRDS.

    Hi, we live in US, would like to move to Spain for retirement (probably to Alicante area) in a few years with my wife. We will have $50-60k/yr (Social Security+401K), will rent. From what I understand, it would be heavily taxed in Spain. Can you give any idea how much taxes would we owe in Spain, 24% or more? Does it make sense to live 6 months in Spain and 6 months in Portugal, would that cut the taxes significantly?

    Hello! I am a new Spanish citizen and an American, do the general rules you explained apply equally to a dual citizen who becomes a Spanish tax resident? I’m planning to buy a property in Sevilla with a Roth and social security pension as a steady stream of income. Double taxation treaty would apply on that income and any then capital gains on savings and brokerage accounts, I think. The property would be all cash. I’m aware of succession issues generally (children then spouse) tax due before transfer, right? Spouse is not Spanish, but American. And world wealth asset tax on my share of basically my 1.2M SF home has to be addressed, but I’d be under the 700K and 300K exception, but would have to file a Modelo 720 declaration. Does Spain use the appraised value on my SF home that our tax assessor uses or does it use fair market value? How can I arrange for a mock up Spanish tax return to determine if I will ever stay more than 183 days. The property btw I will buy, will not be new construction, but would likely be a resold one (avoid VAT) then rented out to probably avoid the 183 rule I’d get an immediate rental permission form (and number) filed and eventually the permanent form filed to do that in Sevilla office at City Hall). Since all cash, no requirement by a Bank to file a will, but I will want to file one filed for Madrid WILLS bank I’d assume, I would need help to file that, I think. I understand I will pay 19% tax on rental income, less immediate rental expenses (association fees, management). 2% depreciation allowed too I believe. Anyway, I think I have an idea, but would like a mock tax form done. Can you help with that? Thx

    What you say about pensions does not seem right. Under Article 18 of the UK/France tax treaty, only the state of residence can tax pensions (except for pensions from government service). Thus if you are a tax resident f France, the UK cannot tax the pension at all.

    • @chasebuchananWM
      @chasebuchananWM 11 місяців тому

      Thank you for your comment. While this is covered by the DTA between France and the UK, it is not automatic. You need to advise both the French and UK tax authorities of your change in tax residency to France. If you don't, then the tax is taken off at source in the UK by your UK pension administrator/trustee (irrespective of the double tax agreement), and you'll then need to apply for a rebate of any extra tax that you paid, which can take months.
