Power BI Clustered and Stacked Column Chart (Part 2: Dynamic)
Переглядів 12 тис.3 роки тому
Part 1: ua-cam.com/video/AI3eT1kRje4/v-deo.html Please note that this video assumes you've watched Part 1 and understand the concept of using another column to order your data. Instead of inserting a manual table indicating the order, this time everything is done in PBI by grouping the data and adding blank/dummy rows in between the different groups. 2:52 to get right into it! Part 2 (Dynamic): ua-cam.com/video/vuELVStfYck/v-deo.html This video is a quick tutorial on how to simulate a clustered and stacked chart in Power BI. This method required a manual table entry to indicate the order of the items in the axis. If you prefer to have everything as a calculation to keep the dashboard sustainable with updated datasets, please see my SkillSha...

    This is half the way there, but no use if the chart is dynamic and/or connected to changeable data (and I'm not sure why you'd use PBI if it's not). For the blank rows you can just put a space, and add a sort by column in the query editor (adjust dax or in query editor to only show blank rows where the there is data in the real rows, and also not after the final row) - no need to export to excel, no need to use static shapes to cover anything, and no need to manually filter out any values.

    Hello Ellen. Excellent work! Thank you for assisting. I've followed the steps well and this works. Slight, hiccup on my end. My visual shows the Country and Product on the x-axis. How do I remove the Country without compromising the visual? Thanks in advance!

    Hello Ellen. Thank you so much for this video! I was able to make everything work, except that I get too many blanks in the final chart... In your case you have for your first set of bars Paseo Canada, Paseo USA, and Paseoblank (blank). In my case I would have Paseo Canada, Paseo USA, and then Paseoblank Canada, and Paseoblank USA. And since I have 3 countries, it's 3 blanks and that takes up a lot of space on my chart.. Can you please tell me if you see what I did wrong?

      Hi Sophie! That's really interesting, I think you'll need to look into whether it's caused by PBI drilling down into the blank rows, or if because you've added these into the order table. Quick way to check is to go into your filters and see if you can easily remove the problem. If so, great! If not, it's a drill down issue - PBI thinks there's data in the blank rows. This might come from either the order table itself, or the relationships made. I would first make sure your blank rows are named in a way that doesn't exist in your actual data (i.e. Paseoblank doesn't exist in my data), and also check that the relationship is correctly made - do NOT make a relationship with your calculation table! see 4:14 . It should also be one way relationships. Hope something works out!

      @@ellenimamura9353 Hi Ellen, thanks so much for your answer. I have checked and no I can't remove it from the filters otherwise it removes the 3 blanks at once, which makes sense (same as if you would remove paseoblank from your filter, it would remove the blank. the relationships look exactly like on your screen. and they are one way. none of the blank rows are named like an actual product. My order table seem fine... I understand what you mean with PBI thinking there's data in these rows.. i just can't figure out how to not make it do that. Could you please name the table sources for each of the items under Axis, Legend and Values? For me I have under Axis: ProductOrder[Product], and Financials[Country], under Legend: Financials[Year], under Values: Financials[Sales]. Can the error come from there?

    Its so strange that there are charts that excel can do that Power BI can't. Thanks for the video. It gave me the very lazy idea to export the chart then chuck it into excel and create a powerpivot chart which groups things automatically.

    There appears to be a new visualization called 'Clustered Stacked bar chart' that does this.

    This is really amazing! Would you mind sharing how you did the product name title in the center underneath the two country names you have? For example, on your initial report, "Paseo", "VIT", "Velo" etc. are all in the center underneath the charts... did you do that manually or is there a way to do that automatically in Power BI?

    • @ellenimamura9353
      @ellenimamura9353 3 роки тому

      Luckily that's a Power BI function! Under the visualization pane, go to format, X axis, and turn off "Concatenate Labels". This only works if you're sorting the graph by the x-axis and you're drilling down (which we are in this case)

    Congratulations, you are a genius! An incredibly effective solution, Microsoft should reward you! Instead, I was delusional that I solved it by overlapping 2 lined and stacked column charts so that they looked clustered. I was thinking of solving the problem of proportionality on the Y axis by means of a transparent line drawn on the maximum. Unfortunately, the rendering between the PowerBI Desktop application and the WEB service are different so the proportions on the Y axis are out of phase. THANK YOU for your solution :-)
