My brother and I just figured this out. The circuitry knows when the motors are loaded (i.e. underwater, or stalled on the side of a pool wall). So when the water circulation motor (larger one) is under load (higher current draw) due to circulating water, it will start spinning the other motor to make the unit move. It can only do this underwater because air won't provide the same resistance and thus current draw. I simulated this out of the water with the motor unit assembled and placing pressure, through a dishcloth, on the spindle of the larger motor. Sure enough once that was done, the other motor started spinning. Thanks very much for this video - about to save $500 on repairing this myself, plus I will have 2 spares after I fix them as well. That gear set is all gummed up on all 3.

I have zodiac cx20 which has exactly the same motor unit as yours. It stopped working and when I opened the motor unit, water got inside and the PCB was corroded - since I have a salty water pool. After cleaning the PCB, the motor start to run again. In my case, there is no water sensor - when press the button on the control unit, the cleaner just runs.

My 2011 Sierra 5.3L did the same thing. Changed my oil immediately and it self corrected. Must have been viscosity reduction or slight screen buildup that dissolved

I have a 2009 Suburban that has well over 100K on it and I noticed some drip spots in the driveway from the rear mail seal area. So, I added a bottle of Blue Devil (I had used it on a previous older truck, and it worked great when I caught the issue early.) Next day my wife drove it to work and said that as she was arriving at work, she noticed the oil pressure guage was down to around 25-30 once fully warmed up. Typically, it would go to about 30psi at idle and just over 40+ at normal highway RPM of about 2K. On the way home the engine light came on and I ran a scan and got the P0521 Oil Sender range code. Saw this article and thought that I must have the same issue. However, I drained the oil (was Mobile 1 Synthetic High Mileage) and noticed that the oil was very thin.. even when only warm it was like water. Oil level was full. When I changed the oil and filter and ran the truck the pressure was right back at normal levels. I think the Sealer was thin enough to lower the viscosity just enough to cause problems on an older engine,

Great video. In fact, the Blue Devil UA-cam channel had one question from a GMC 5.3 owner with the same problem, but they just referred him to their technical service hotline. Glad I saw this, because I would have fainted if I added it and saw zero oil pressure as a result. My GMC 5.3 has rear seal oil seepage, but no spots on the floor, so I'm torn about whether to do anything about it yet.
