Edmonton Ragamala Music Society presents Guitar Prasanna for an exciting Carnatic music concert accompanied by Gowrishanker Balachandran on Mridangam.
Guitar Prasanna is one of the most renowned and internationally acclaimed artists to have emerged from the Indian Subcontinent. He is a pioneer in performing the traditional Indian Classical Carnatic music art on a modern electric guitar and is known worldwide for that innovation. He was given a Lifetime Achievement Award for Carnatic music by H.H. Shri Jayendra Saraswathi In 2003.
Gowrishanker Balachandran is an internationally renowned Toronto-based mridangist who has been performing for almost four decades. He is the first and prime disciple of Sangeetha Kalanidhi Dr. Thiruvarur Bakthavatsalam. He has the distinction of accompanying many celebrated artists like Dr. N. Ramani, T. N. Seshagopalan, T. N. Krishnan, T. V. Sankaranarayanan, Kadri Gopalnath, K. J. Yesudas, O. S. Thyagarajan, P. Unnikrishnan, Neyveli Santhanagopalan, N. Ravikiran, just to name a few.
