You know what, how about start with Monty Python and the holy grail, at least that a more accurate representation of the Arthurian Legends. Then go and watch Excalibur which might be a bit old (1980s or something) but its by far the best movie adaptation of the Arthurian Legend. For TV series on the other hand Merlin is a great start too since its portrate younger version of all the characters (Merlin, Arthur, Guinevere, Galahad, Lanchelot, Morgana,...) and a very good plot. In term of reading material there's are tones but I think The once and future king is the best to start. But if you plan to watch the Anime then do none that I said and just watch in whatever order you want (the story is perdictable so you got spoil no matter which you watch first), the less you know about Arthurian Legends the less you got piss off by the show.

The movie is good, the build up is great but the climax is kinda funny (in a good way). A friendly comment from a not so friendly friend.
