End of Season Braeriach Northern Corries Session
Last turns of the season at the end of May for Dave, John and I. Played in 3 of Braeriach's northern corries ... snow was good spring snow but melting fairly quickly. COVID shafted opportunities for play during the best part of the season, but at least managed to play a few times at the end of the season

Late season Easains gamble
Переглядів 1013 роки тому
Dave & I took bit of a gamble to try and ski the summit couloir on the North Face of Stob Coire Easain. It looked "in" from the road but as we made the top of Stob a'Choire Mheadhoin it was clear that it was broken. You don't always win them all ... Plan B ended up being a ski down the east ridge of Easain (pretty narrow in places and with some interesting glide cracks) and then the northern sl...
Binnein Mor summit shots 2021
Переглядів 3853 роки тому
We first spotted this awesome looking mountain (Binnein Mor in the Mamores) when skiing some lines off Aonach Beag a few years ago. Dave even did a summer scouting trip to gauge the best approach. Two awesome faces straight off the summit ridge; first run was down Garbh-choire which has a steep first pitch (inclinometer had it at c. 48 degrees) and the second run down Gearr-leacann is more mell...
Braeriach Shred Mission
Переглядів 7843 роки тому
Celebrated the first day of no COVID travel restrictions to go and hunt out some spring corn on Braeriach. The Escalator was still "in" and close to the track; we skied Central Buttress Gully and East Gully in Coire Brochain, then west wall of Coire an Lochain. Finishing off down the Escalator back to the bikes. Awesome day!
Sgor Gaoith east face gullies
Переглядів 7614 роки тому
5th March 2020 - Katie, Dave, John, Donald and I take advantage of a lull in the winter winds to gamble on the east face of Sgor Gaoith being filled in and stable. Fair to say it paid off! just wish the legs would have coped with more than 2 laps! Between us we skied 3 of the gully lines just north of the summit (I skied Thunderstruck & Katabatic Couloir. Snow was a mix of windblown soft on a c...
Raeburn's Gully, Creag Meagaidh
Переглядів 7085 років тому
The first and only ski adventure in Scotland (apart from the end of season pilgrimage to Ben Nevis) in what was an awful 2018 - 2019 Scottish ski season. A bit of a solo mission on 19th April, I gambled on Raeburn's still being in, and it was (just) .... with some some large glide cracks already and the hot weather I suspect it wasn't in for much longer. It's a cracking gully...
Couloir on the North Face of the Becs de Bosson 19 02 19
Переглядів 1505 років тому
Katie and I managed to escape for a few hours from the wee ones to hunt out some fresher snow on the 19th February (2019). The north face of the Becs de Bosson winks at you when going up the top lift in Grimentz, the snow on it looked decent and the line looked fun so we skinned round the back, hiked / scrambled the ridge and skied the central couloir closest to the summit - don't know if it ha...
No. 5 & No. 2 Gully, Ben Nevis
Переглядів 7046 років тому
My head cam footage from the end of season trip to the CIC hut over the weekend of 5th & 6th May with a big crew. Entries were steep & sporty for the time of the season. No. 5 was still complete and No.2 (as usual) had a large runnel running down it, man eating at the bottom ... careful sluff management was required!
Central Gully, Coire an t-Sneachda
Переглядів 1456 років тому
A quick afternoon late season lap in Coire an t-Sneachda (28th April 2018). Sneachda was still holding on to the snow, I'd been up with Katie the day before and skied Jacobs Ladder and on the way out saw that Central still looked complete. Went up the next day to look in, it was complete but pretty narrow in places (a few bridging moments with tips and tails on the rocks!). A beefy convective s...
Shredding on Liathach, Torridon

Dave, Scott and I play in the North and NE Corries of Mullach an Rathain. We skied 1 Line in Glas - Toll a Bothain and 3 in Choireag Cham (the upper corrie of Coire na Caime). Great spring skiing and plenty of more lines in there .... we took the liberty of naming two of the runs too .. the first one more a description of my general state, the second one on due to some very "liberal" amphibians...
Easy Gully, Creag Meagaidh
Переглядів 7016 років тому
Kate and I hit up Easy Gully on Creag Meagaidh (14th April 2018), we had limited time so sadly didn't have chance to do Raeburns Gully (which looked awesome). Snow in Easy Gully was fantastic spring snow especially at the top. Headcam was probably angled a little too low, but not much I can do about that now....
Forsair Bowl, Clach Leathad, Glen Coe

Nothing gnarly just sensational views and fun spring skiing .... Dave and I have some fun out the back of Glen Coe - 25th March 2018. I'd forgotten how awesome the views out over Rannoch Moor can be!
Aonach Mor West Face - Bold Rush

Early season poaching on the Aonach Mor, west face. Dave and I opened Bold Rush / Soldiers Gully - not often in condition, especially this early in the season!
No 2 Gully, Ben Nevis
Переглядів 3608 років тому
A crew of 18 of us stay in the CIC hut to play on Ben Nevis on the 21st and 22nd May 2016. Not the most exciting of edits but had the footage so I thought i may as well use it .... I climbed up No. 2 until the thin section, where the runnel was pretty nasty and would have been pretty filthy to ski with pin bindings. Ski's on at that point and then a pretty nice ski into Coire na Ciste but with ...

Epic! Where you wearing avi packs? Snow looked a bit thicker than we often see….nice

Hi Mark, snow was a little wind affected and crusty right at the top but really good windblown fresh in the guts .. where it was deep enough it was a little crunchy under foot - kept you honest! We don't have avi packs, i think in Scotland trauma its going to be as much an issue as burial if you get caught in a slide and not sure the packs will protect much against the trauma part. We just monitor the conditions, avalanche risk and test the slopes when looking at them before skiing .. and if we don't fancy it we back off for another day.... fingers crossed for a decent season this yr!

Nice. Gullies well filled. Could do with the sound of the skis skittering over the hard snow to appreciate that, only your notes alerted me. Good job you climbed up first. When we see the shots looking down it looks not that difficult….then you pan up the slope…looks more like maybe not! Just a thought, if you had stopped half way down we would see a much better view of Katie ripping it.

Awesome run. My local hill to! Might even attempt the second run sometime. One day I want to ski Sgur Eilihd Mor, the next one along, has such an iconic pointy profile

Now done it…well the second run from the top. The central bowl (first run), cutting in a bit below the top, it’s scary steep at the top which your video doesn’t really show. I also did the north bowl, sliding down the ridge a bit before cutting in, an equally good ski. On way back there are some nice short runs off the ridge towards Sgor Eilde Beag. I didn’t have as much snow, later in the season, on my own on light tele kit so had to take care. Hopefully a return trip next season with the mountain ski, well worth the long hike, though I did bike the first bit.

Don't know to be honest, i don't remember thinking it was that steep when skiing it, i think the angle from the top make's it look a bit steeper than it is .... it's a fairly consistent pitch though through most of it...

It's Tower Gully into Observatory Gully (lower down), Gardyloo Gully would be skiers right from the top of Tower Gully (1 over), I think Gardyloo is still waiting for a confirmed successful full descent ... it's been skied form the chockstone down though i think...

thanks Sprocketman ..... have to admit i'm considering changing up those poles, they are totally useless for skinning with those tiny baskets .... you just may see a pair of touring type poles in the next vid! hope you get to play this weekend ... although weather's looking a little troublesome by the looks of things!

Please let Katie know there are a lot of us who would be happy to have fresh legs which worked as well as her tired ones. Great vid and an inspired line choice on one of those hills which would not have seen skis in times passed. Off now to check out your other vids. Love the piste poles too!

Nice one Jake,, we wondering if you made it, looked like it got a bit windier the next day? what was the top like, did you need to rope in? Tower is definately on the list for next year ... ran out of time this yr. I'm eyeing up the Katanas for next season... you like them?

Awesome video man, got to get me a helmet cam. Incidentally, I was the guy who stopped you on the way down with the Volkl Katanas. We ended up doing Tower gully the next day. No Vid but there's always next year! Scottish snow rules!
