    I didn't know black widows were part of the lactrodectus group until now. I used to think black widows belonged to the steatoda group. I find it interesting that the brown and black widows were put into a separate group apart from the false widows because false widows seem to share many similarities to the lactrodectus group. Especially their appearances.

    • @CrybabyTarantula
      @CrybabyTarantula 2 дні тому

      That's very interesting you say that! So, from what I've read, the difference between the lactrodectus genus and steatoda genus is physical differences. The lactrodectus has longer legs and a different shaped abdomen than the steatoda genus. The false widows have a more flat abdomen while the brown and black widows have a more round shape. They do look similar if you didn't know the difference, but when you look at comparison pictures of the brown and black widow vs. the false widows are much larger in size than the false widows. So that would be why they are not in the same genus! Thank you for watching, I appreciate your viewership😇🥰

    Just as an FYI tarantulas do have a brain and a nervous system.

    • @CrybabyTarantula
      @CrybabyTarantula 14 днів тому

      Hi Tammie, I understand why you might be upset. That is totally my fault for not being more specific. I should have said tarantulas do have brains, but not like one might think. That a tarantulas brain and nervous system is made of two large ganglia that run nerve channels throughout the body, ganglia being a collection of nerves and brain cells. My point was they don't have brains in a way that they are not going to be like that of a jumping spider, mammal, or person and perceive things the same way. My apologies for not explaining further, I will make sure to mention their nervous system in the next video more in depth. Thank you for watching, I appreciate your viewership!

    I've only seen maybe a handful of black widows in my lifetime. They seem pretty rare where I live. It's been over a decade since I last seen one lol.

    • @CrybabyTarantula
      @CrybabyTarantula 20 днів тому

      They are pretty cool to see in person. I must say! They are native to where I live here in the United States. My first spider was actually a wild caught brown female widow that I found outside. I didn't end up keeping her because I didn't have the proper enclosure. I've regretted it ever since🥲 funny story actually with this one. I kept finding my bike all webbed up next to my porch but never seen what spider made it. I went to the store the other night and came back to find this little lady in the same spot where I put my bike! She is the one who has been residing there😅 so for my safety and her safety, I brought her inside and have her an enclosure to stay in where she won't get squished and I won't accidentally get bit!

    Very good informative video Jenn. I am intrigued you reckon the Irminia as a beginner spider. I know not all spiders are the same but these are usually quite skittish. What do you think about the Avic avic as a beginner arboreal? Look forward to your videos I hope you get a big following very soon.

    • @CrybabyTarantula
      @CrybabyTarantula 21 день тому

      Hi there, and thank you so much for watching! Also, thank you for asking! I love my Venezuelan Sun tiger, she is really easy to interact with, rehouse, and feed!. Despite that they can be a little bolty, I've never had mine take off and run out of her enclosure, when I rehouse her she will just walk right in but I have other tarantulas like grammastola, tlilocotal, and other new world species that really give me a run for my money compared to my p. Irminia, who just hangs out and hides most of the time. For spider lovers who just only want a few tarantulas in their collection that they can enjoy, I definitely recommend the Psalmopoeus irminia they are a beautiful species and deserve a better reputation I also think that since they don't have urticating hairs that, that would make up for their bolty-ness. An Avicularia, Avicularia is a great starter arboreal tarantula. They are much slower. I will tell you they can have quite crazy feeding responses and my personal Avicularia Avicularia Alfredo, will bite first and ask questions later. But other than that, they are definitely great for beginners and a beautiful display tarantula. I was going to consider using the avic for this video, but I instead decided I was going to use it in my top 3 arboreal tarantulas video😇🥰 Again, thank you so much for watching! I appreciate your viewership

    • @CrybabyTarantula
      @CrybabyTarantula 21 день тому

      I would also like to say that I believe each and every tarantula has their own quirks and that just because they are said to be one way does not mean they aren't entitled to act differently than what we know. For example, I have a golden blue leg baboon who is terrestrial and supposedly semi fossorial. Let me tell you, this semi fossorial spider has never touched a piece of dirt to move it in her life, and she does not like to hang out on the ground but instead, on top of the cork bark I give her or she's hanging on the wall🙈😂 Also they say Avics are prolific webbers and that they all web huge webbing, but mine barely webs at all. With all that said, just because a tarantula is supposed to act a specific way does not mean they will, and I advocate for that. An Aphonapelma chalchodes could still threat pose despite their natural calm and docile demeanor. These guys do not have brains and therefore operate differently💖

    Hey! Those are some good recommendations! In my opinion an Avicularia or Caribena would be a better starter arboreal tarantula. From my experience, Psalmopeus can be quite fast and "bolty", so not an ideal combination for someone who isn't too experienced with tarantulas. I personally recommend Acanthoscurria geniculata as a starter tarantula, it has become one of my top 3 tarantula species to keep, even though they're quite "common". Pretty much any species of Brachypelma, Aphonopelma, Grammostola or Tliltocatl can be a good starter though. Also, I recommend that people just starting in the hobby should probably buy a juvenile/sub-adult/adult spider. Slings can be quite finnicky and sometimes will not make it, even if you do everything right

    • @CrybabyTarantula
      @CrybabyTarantula 21 день тому

      Thank you, and I appreciate you watching! Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and I understand your reasoning. In my opinion, any spider can bolt whether they can run or telelport, and to say they won't is unreasonable. It's almost like saying every New World spider is going to be calm and slow. These are arachnids, and keeping them isn't for the faint of heart. If you cannot deal with them in a controlled manner, for example if they escape and your not brave enough to catch them then you have a whole set of issues that arise that could possibly compromise the spiders well being and possibly other animals in the house or children. Owning tarantulas and any other exotic pet comes with a reasonable amount of responsibility. Therefore, owning and keeping arachnids just isn't for everyone. And to promise that a specific species of spider is going to act the same way every time because of the natural nature of the species is calm and docile is in my mind irresponsible and puts both keepers and spiders at risk. There are expectations we should have when it comes to keeping exotic animals and especially tarantulas. They are not your everyday pet and should not be treated as so. I respect the nature of my spider, and I expect people to do so as well for the better. Also, I would have to say I disagree with what you said about slings, and this is why. The majority of my tarantulas I bought as slings, some less than a 1/4 of an inch, and I have not had a single one die yet. If you have had a lot of slings pass away to the point of concern, I would consider looking at your husbandry and seeing what you might be doing wrong. I suggest keeping slings warm and moist, they same way they are when they are in their eggsac, their babies. Also, slings are much cheaper than Juvies to adults, which depending on the species can start anywhere from 150$ and up. Slings are also great to start with especially if you are fearful of your tarantulas at first, they are way less intimidating than a huge spider, you can watch them grow, and ultimately appreciate them just that much more because you raised them. I also think that statement undermines every captive bred breeder that produces most of their tarantulas and sells them as slings because they are produced in-house. Finally, this is not some Facebook page if you would like to give advice about keeping tarantulas, I would recommend you do so on your own account, as I would not like to cause confusion for the ones who are trying to learn. But of course, opinions are like buttholes and everyone has one🤷‍♀️ Thanks for watching. Don't forget to like and subscribe😇🥰

    Great choices!! My first tarantula was a Grammostola pulchipes, which is also a pretty laid back and easy to care one. Loved the video and all the info, I bet many beginners will find it really useful.

      I love my grammastola pulchripes😍 I will definitely be mentioning that species when I make a top 3 grammastola species video!! I also have two of them, I'm hoping my sling will grow into a female because I have a male and it would be awesome to try and breed them😇 Thank you so much for watching friend🖤💯

    Just like babies and diaper rash, you can do everything right and it'll still happen. I'm so glad Merlin is doing better. And Spyro is just adorable! 😍

      @ghoulgirlholley isn't it?! There are other species that can be sexually dimorphic as well, but the Venezuelan sun tiger is one🥰 Thank you for watching 💜💜💜
