Ground Pilots - Final Session 12 - MLJ riding: TMGP Endurance Race 7, 2024

(MLJ riding) This was my last outing which started just as the sun was setting. The battery in the laptimer gave up many sessions earlier. Laptimes here are manually grabbed with a stopwatch. This session was easily my slowest. And once the sun was setting, I quickly lost a second a lap. I got my camera started a bit late here. I originally thought I only had about 10 min to ride but was wrong....

In TMGP I am often competing with Fritz. And it always goes the way you see here. Sometimes I can just hang onto his teammates. Best case scenario. Impressive corner speed for what I've always (falsely) assumed was a point and shoot bike. I stand corrected. This isn’t an easily achievable goal, but I relish the pursuit it it!

    This is really trial practice using the screen capture app I bought to see if one can see the screen well enough to follow this. The AIM software doesn’t make good use of limited screen space. This is also the case on a big screen. As of right now it doesn’t work with multiple monitors to have multiple windows open. What is here isn’t any sort of real analysis. That wasn’t the point. Looking forward to posting some more with actual ways I use the data to look at where to focus my efforts to ride better and faster. Maybe compare the electric bike to the nsr50, 2-stroke.

      I don’t really recall that topic other than the 12” wheels on the Bucci worked distinctly differently for the smaller 10”. . I also rode both bikes at the Bucci feels more stable in fast transitions. The Ohvale is twitchy. Keep a lighter touch on the bars to keep it in check.

      Yes, i have the owner manual that came with my bike. Let me see if i can make a video and post it going over what it says for front and rear. The air pressure in the fork is the only peload adjustment. IIRC it is like 7-42 psi or something. I rhough manufactures abandoned this dead tech in the 1980s. A screw adjuster is precise. I guess I am lucky the spring rate feel about right for my$170lb rider weight. The shock sadly is completely inadequate.

      1. There is no way to charge a bike at SS. There are no power outlets. I was conserving my battery. :) I used 50% in this one session, which is about average, LOL base on the 3 times I have ridden the bike total. According to the solo2 in this session, my theoretical best lap is a 1:13 flat. SO I will be looking for a 1:12 next month (without bike mods). 2. A bike with 7 hp has infinite grip. Even in the wet. Little did I know my profuse sweat would cause my insuline pump to come detached, so I never got my second session on this bike to start. I only did (2) sessions at the moto-only trackday. One where there were only 2 bikes on track.

      That makes my day after my ride today. The thing that kept bothering me was that the back is just too soft for quick transitions. It is slowing down the bike. The rear shock I got off Amazon. From seller DJ motor. It is a 280mm 1000lb. The stock shock is 270mm 800lb in case you were wondering. I weigh 180lbs, 190 with basic gear, (helmet/gloves/ boots) 200 with my suit. I measured everything today with just my basic gear not my suit. Let’s call the stock height of the bike zero, under its static load in stock configuration: Static- 0” Unloaded- +7/8” With me- -2 3/8” With the upgraded shock Static- +1 7/8” Unloaded- + 2 5/8” With me- + 1/8” So with the new shock under the new spring load, instead of the bike dropping 2 3/8” it only drops 1 3/4”. The increased length of the shock does not seem to affect the ride in a negative way. I’ll be doing some more heavy riding on it tomorrow, hopefully get more feedback out of the new setup. So far, in my opinion, this is how the bike needs to be. You don’t get that weird bounce/ recoil after coming out of a turn and the ability to load up the back tire coming out of a turn is significantly better. The part from Amazon was $120, took :05 to swap. Worth it as of now. I was digging deep looking into other bikes that would have the same setup as the g3s for a Öhlins or similar, something with remote bypass, I came up empty on that one, closest I got was a 300mm shock, which would never have fit, the swingarm will not allow that far of a drop. Let me know what you think of this when/ if you do it.

    Conpleted the new shift linkage and it is about 1.5” longer than before. I slightly repositioned the bell crank on the shift shaft so it is as closed to 90 degrees as it can get. The teeth on the shift shaft mean that the positioning is NOT infinitely adjustable. Regardless, the Grom is ready to go race next weekend in TMGP sprint races next weekend 8/25. I have not ridden it on track yet. This will be proof testing then. If this gets the problem solved, I’ll put the slipper clutch back in and close this chapter of the Grom story!

You’d almost think he did a lot of learning on a grom with stock suspension for example. Well done.

    I found pitbike swingarms in aluminum all over ebay. The come in different lengths. 445mm, 460mm, 475mm and 480mm. It’s an overkill option, but presents a sure solution is reachable. I will do the 47 tooth sprocket this weekend. Then see where it all lands. Sprocket was a $100 fix. Swingarm would be another $150. Prefer to not do that though. Especially since the shock spring is too soft now. It would only make that worse… However, it is better to do the SA first before shock so I don’t have to re-spring it 2x.

    Have you reached to greenger at all about a possible software update that allows full use of the motor? Removal of the top limiter should be simple enough. I found with mine, along side another bike that when on a downhill the bike still limits its maximum speed to the 47mph.

    • @sportytoes
      @sportytoes 2 місяці тому

      I haven’t. Not yet anyway. I theorized to was an rpm limit but my experience so far alighns with you. It seems to be an electronic limit on top speed. I noticed the same thing on a downhill straight at Kart moto. You hit 47 and it felt like the brakes slightly come on. (They don’t but that is how it felt). I saw the update for the CRF-E2 where replacing the LCD enabled an update that increased power and speed. I’m sure Greenger could do the same here. Immust say I am impressed the battery last as long as it does now with the throttle pinned all the time. Not sure how an extra 5mph would kill that. Not that it would discourage me from doing that..

I didn’t see anything on the site for a 25mm axle. All the big bike stuff wouldn’t fit. I didn’t follow the rear stand question though. I just use a pitbull rear stand when changing tires. Would be nice it there were threads on the swingarm to added spools. My Kayo mini-gp bikes have the identical steel version of this swingarm and those have threads to install spools. This swingarm is not a unique part and is common on many minibike. Would not surprise me to find one on ebay that has the needed threads.

      Typo, not a 25mm axle, the greenger has a 15mm axle. Huge difference.

      @@cavanmcmillan4304 if what you want is swingarm spools on the bike, checkout svracingparts.com and look at the suspension upgrades for the Kayo MR150. Find the aluminum swingarm. (It is the same as the greenger). Zoom in on the picture of the bike showing the aluminum swingarm. Checkout where they mounted the spools. I suspect you can drill the arm and tap the holes for an M8 bolt. My caution here is, I don’t know how thick the aluminum is at that spot. I’ll be checking into this for my own use. The price would be right… and no need to weld any tabs on to the swingarm.

    When the Greenger came out, building a TMGP machine was the first thought I had. Thank you for doing this and documenting the process. Would you say this is a competitor to the KX65 or not even close? Also, would you recommend just getting the non-S since you bought aftermarket wheels for it anyways? I'm very interested to see the progress. Also, for the Katy track, how does it work? Do they have open track days?

    • @sportytoes
      @sportytoes 2 місяці тому

      I would say this bike is no comparison to a KX 65 on a race track. My assessment is this greenger might be a good F7 class bike. I would say that a KX is an expert only machine (F5 class). You seriously need to know how to ride to get the potential out of it. It’s about five seconds a lap faster, and that’s with an average rider on it. An experienced racer will be even faster. Despite that it may be competitive with something like an NSR50 as it stands now. A grom is faster. Again it is that 5mph top speed advantage that makes a huge difference.

      About the Non-S model. The forks and wheels are different. The forks will be more flexy. Not sure how the SV Racing front wheel may fit up. I’m reasonable happy with the G3S fork. The springs are not badly mismatched to my weight the way the shock is.

    I am over slowing way too much in corners because I am closing the throttle. I need to try not closing the throttle (as an exercise) and dragging the rear brake. i am ober slowing compared to my other bikes. I can drop my laptimes if I can get my apex speeds back up. There is a learning curve to a single speed transmission….

    Thanks for this. Just picked up my G3s. Lovely little bike but these simple types of upgrades are what it needs to really shine.

    This is still a mystery problem. After riding today I still think the shift linkage is the culprit. I ordered an aluminum rod made of aluminum and a left hand m6 tap. I will measure and make the linkage the exact legth it needs to be. The current on sice i got it seems to be too short. Bike only has the problem on upshifts. Not on downshifts. I belive this is because the the crank on the end off the shift shaft isn’t setup at 90 degrees to the shift linkage. Because the rod is too short. Should be able to find out in 3 weeks. Fingers crossed.

    hi. maybe you know what it can be that when closing the gas and braking harder the motorcycle hangs at the revs and pulls it when braking as if on gas. Carburetor? Valve measure is good 0.8 inlet 0.12-13 exhaust

      Highs and lows. It is either leaving corners at the lowest rpm I have ever run or bouncing of the rev limiter because I couldn’t get the shifter to work with the wonked out footpeg. But it did come together when it dried out and we properly replaced the bad peg. I am looking forward to getting invited to ride with Hectors team in the future. It was a fun day for me. BTW: to everyone, I am more than open to riding critiques. Let me know what you see I can do better and I’ll work on it!

      I wasn’t sure how long yall had stayed out on rains and if you had gone back to slicks yet (perhaps a bit early). Your bike was unstoppable in the rain.i was getting lapped every 4th time around the track!

      We kept the PMT rains on the whole time. They were pretty worn out at the end. I ran the first 40 minutes during the heaviest rain and had the fastest lap until it started drying up. Something like a whopping 58.9. Spare Parts kept their Mitas rains on too and they looked like they could gone another 4 hours easily. I think the PMT is still the best in real rain-tire conditions but the Mitas may have the advantage in a situation like Saturday.

      For the Greenger or for the Solo2? Doesn’t matter. The answer is yes for both. Honda dealer can get a battery. Price is ~$2k. the solo2 chas to be cracked open to get to the battery. But I did replace it before with a battery bought off amazon for ~$25

    I was also thing i might rotate the pegs 180 degrees so they point in toward the frame. If that makes sense. You know, instead of pointing out, they point in. Less width, no gap.

    Keep the videos coming. Like u said, not a lot out there to pull ideas from on these bikes. I like what you’re doing and plan to use ur site for the mods. Any ideas on unlocking its power potential? Seem like it’s governed at 46/47mph

      I think it is a max rpm limit. I changed my gearing so i should be able to get an answer next time I get to ride it. I dropped the rear sprocket from a 48 to a 46. I also have a 47 i had made. Room to experiment. Wish I had an rpm gauge for the electric motor. That would give more facts to work with. Otherwise is a guess on my part about an rpm limit…

      @@matthewcoleman6174 i will post up when i have a chance to make some brackets. I am reasssured that, unlike dirtbikes, these bolt to the frame instead of being permanently attached. I am optiistic these specific blue pegs will be reused on a simple plate. I am not on social media so learning anything about the bike is nearly impossible. Surronster has yet to ride one more than once. Info is pretty hard to come by. I’m encouraged to hear you have a G3s.

Basically no chassis setup and me riding on a track I did 3 quick sessions on the Kayo racer to just learn where this track goes. I took stopwatch laptimes on (3) different bikes for some basic comparison. That info is added to the description.
