Service the transmission. It might just be low on fluid bro... have you checked the fluid level? Even if it's a "sealed" unit with no dipstick... you can check by unscrewing the fill plug, then putting fluid in until it just starts leaking out that hole (which means it's full). What make/model is your car? What transmission does it have?
Not selecting any gears is often due to low fluid level or even a fouled up valve body. A trans service kit is so cheap ($30). I wouldn't be surprised if your trans filter was the cause of the issue - when they get old and allow contaminants into the transmission, they will block the valve body. A clogged filter can prevent the transmission from changing gears in any case. Servicing your transmission is very easy. Even if you're not great at working on cars, you'll be able to manage it - there are many guides here on youtube. Please give that a go first mate. It may save you a lot of money.
