I grew up listening to old school country music and will forever be greatful with the individual who downloaded this song and other old school country hits.

This was released in 1975 right around the final break up of Jones and Wynette. You can hear the pain in George's voice and see the sadness in his eyes. "The Door" is one painful masterpiece!

Probably the two best singers in the world. The way their voices mix is pure heaven. In their day they were superstars as separate (solo) acts - as a duet team they were absolutely legendary. King and Queen of Country! No debate. Thanks for posting a gem!

Tammy wrote this song, but her ex (Don Chapel) claims he wrote it, and got the credit for it -- in concert, Tammy would introduce this song as one she wrote while driving from OH to Nashville, in her car, with her little girls in the car with her -- and that she did indeed write the song. Check out the video on you tube "Tammy Wynette Live Jamboree in the Hills 1993 Part I" -- at the 5:53 mark she talks in detail about it.
