“If a wrench doesn’t work, use a hammer.”
This channel will feature automotive, home renovation/repairs and Varsity level sports. My name is Skip. My wife, Amy, and I have owned 51 cars since we started driving. I also film the CHAA Hurricanes homeschool Varsity 8-man football as well as basketball games.
We are teaching our sons to wrench on their own rides, and repair things around the house to not only instill knowledge, but to also give the satisfaction of repairing them with their own hands. These videos are to not only help the UA-cam community, but to leave a digital legacy of knowledge for our sons and grandkids on how we built and repaired things.
Our strengths compliment each other and makes for a great team. I’m no expert in one thing but have knowledge in many areas. Thank you for joining our journey together.

Replacing a Holley 4180-C is tough, especially when you don’t know what you should put back on. Through some research I found this 4160, with the kick down rod, to be a good fit. Let’s see how it goes.

Hi. I finally did this myself, exactly the way you did with the hot glue. Mine wasn't cracked so I didn't need the super glue, but it works great now. Thanks for the vid!
That’s so awesome Josh! Enjoy that extra $3k in your pocket for fixing it yourself!
Enjoyed the military salute
It was perfect for military appreciation day.
Does this work for both sides?
Yes, the low beam is accessible like that on both sides. The high beams are not. The headlight housing has to be taken off to replace them, which means pull off the front bumper. Got a video for that one too!
What else could these be used for? I mean besides stairs. That's pretty cool to have 16+ lights come on with a motion sensor. I want them but not for stairs. Also why not mention price right at the beginning of video?
I didn’t purchase them. The homeowner already had them installed and had ordered another kit for repair parts. I did leave a link to them on Amazon.
As far as other uses, that’s a tough one. You’d need access to an attic if it’s on the ceiling of a room. For the brain and all the wires to be hidden. Maybe on a deck. Don’t know if it’s waterproof tho.
@@HammerWrench I'm installing them right now
Happy Gilmore baby!!
Go to your home!!
Thanks for the shout out man! Glad it helped.how do you edit your videos like that.
Power Director. I video with my iPhone and important into the app on the phone. It’s very easy to learn and use.
Omg, I have a leak on the front and believe is around the front spark plugs. It looks like I have to replace the gasket on my 2007. I also have a bad alternator, so I would like to know if I should remove the gasket parts, tackle the alternator, and work my way up. I'm not a mechanic but not scared to get my hands dirty to do the job. This video here looks good with great explanation. I live in New England so the cold weather is practically knocking on our doors. A job like this would take me at least 2 days, what do you think about removing the gasket parts and doing alternator, then replace gasket?
I think that’s a great plan. It should give more room to wiggle that thing out of there. Just make sure to get the right kit. The back valve cover determines it. It’s pretty easy. It was my first time doing this for Tyler’s van. Just take your time and take pictures/video.
How do you remove that plug? The plastic bracket looks weird
There is a tang that needs to be lifted before it can be pulled off.
How many thousands of dollars has this video saved. Another $2k right here, actually more considering we were going to buy a new car. Grateful 🙏
I appreciate that compliment Nate. When I fixed my friends car, I had no idea it was a widespread problem that no one was covering. Glad it helped you out and saved you from a new car payment. Nissan should build it better.
What scanner did you use ? What coil packs did you use to get it run properly?
Forscan on a laptop and a ELM327 adapter off Amazon. Here ya go: amzn.to/3Z2kQlY
If you go with a tuner, 5 star tuning will get you a little more power after you install the SPD Y pipe, gut the cat(if no emissions), and a better muffler. I’ve got some shorts of what that sounds like.
Excursion V10 exhaust #ratemychop ua-cam.com/users/shorts6tJnpvN6G5U?feature=share
@HammerWrench Thanks I watched them and many of you videos last night
Thank you for watching and hope it helped you out.
What scanner did you use to determine which ones were bad ? Do you always go with stock coil packs and plugs ? Did not catch what you said at end of video for best coil packs.
I use Forscan on a laptop and a ELM327 scanner with usb hooked to the laptop. It’ll show you which are misfiring. Or the manual way is to unplug the wire to the coil one at a time to see if it gets worse or no change. I would use either Ford coils or ACCEL. Knock offs don’t last long.
Update Fixed!!!!! Quick run down... My 15amp fuse kept blowing for a while now, controls windows/ interior lights/ third brake lights ect and i just kept putting another one in over and over until it would just blow instantly. I found this helpful video, and sure enough, all three bulbs blown, possibly causing my constant short. i replaced all three bulbs and put a new fuse in, and guess what blows emmidiatly again. Here comes the fix. i went back to the fuse box under the driver's side, and i have a head lamp on, and i can see. i guess you would call it fuse residue or dust from it constantly blowing that stuff had build it's self up enough to bridge across from one end to the other on the fuse slot and causing the instant short 😅 i cleaned and scratched all the residue with a small flat screw driver and cleaned with contact cleaner and !!!!whallllllaaaaa!!!! No blown fuse, all my windows roll up and down. Third, brake light works now. Thanks to this post, i have fixed an issue i have ignored for years. I hope this helps someone 🙏
That’s awesome! The residue is probably due to a leak at the windshield or at the 3rd brake light running to the front on top of the headliner. So glad u found it and posted!!
Pinned your comment to help others.
Sounds good right out of the box
Yes sir! I’m glad I read the paperwork that said it’s tuned to be close to most engines. Otherwise I’d been twisting screws and be frustrated!
Hello, did you change out the harness or bulbs only, and if it was the complete harness, how is it installed? Thanks.
I only changed the bulbs. The bulb sockets were soft and gooey so a bit after the video, I had to cut the wires to stop the shorting. The water remained an issue. You may could splice new bulb sockets onto the ends and solve that problem tho.
@HammerWrench Thanks, man. i will have to try that. i replaced my bulbs as well, but the sockets look melted, but the connection looks fine. i will have to splice new sockets in or upgrade to the led unit. I hope this gets rid of my instant short on fuse it would last a few cycles on my driver side window switches, then blow, now it's instant. Thanks again
If that works for ya, post it back here to help others. Thanks man.
This is probably the only video where brake cleaner and lubricant are not used. EVERYONE else recommends it, otherwise there's a good chance the brakes will squeal.
Yes, it is good practice to use those products. This was the first brake job for the car. It was under 20k miles and the pad change was due to chatter and seizures of the rear pads in reverse. Certainly odd behavior for a new car. The change did resolve the issue but there was no evidence as to why it began.
@@HammerWrench The squeaking of the brakes disappeared because during the replacement there was minimal cleaning of the guides on the brake pad support. But things can come back when unlubricated guides oxidize.
@adamverbik8920 the noise only happened in reverse.
@@HammerWrench I know about it. When you move backwards, the brake shoe touches the disk with the other edge and a small shift occurs. But if it cannot shift smoothly on the grease, it starts to squeal. This happens, for example, with doors with poorly lubricated hinges, when you can open without squeaking and close only with a squeak. Or vice versa.
@adamverbik8920 thank you for your input. I’ll put those to use in future repairs in or off video.
To bad my stairs are carpet. I'd like little puck lights that i can put into the side of the wall.
Those would help you see. Wearing socks on stairs will help you get down them briskly!!
So awesome that you can do your own work and get it running!
Thank you. It’s stressful learning a new system. Editing makes it look easier than it is.
Wonder how many folks tapped to edit! I forgot to delete an edit in there.
Gloves for those skinny azz fingers. Cleatis would be laughing
They were a little too big. Cleatis would find something else to quality control.
You need size long/skinny gloves. 😀
Please Can i use insulated copper wires to unclog??
Can you? Yes. Should you? No. Those tubes are rubber or plastic and if the wire nicks a hole in the tube, it’s leaking inside forever.
Question. I watched your video on blend door motor on driver side. The very important part u was mentioning to put flap in up.position
Yes! In doing so it makes sure it’s clocked in the same position as the stepper motor stob, thus not stripping it out when one reaches its limit.
@HammerWrench so ill be able to notice the notch in there ? N use my finger to move it or a tool
@James-929 I used my finger to roll the door blade to output heat in the vent while having the motor plugged in and seeing it roll the same direction. Leave the air running if the door stays in position and install the motor.
@HammerWrench thank u. I'm gonna tackle project as soon as nissan gets stepper motor in.
@James-929 awesome! The hardest thing is getting contorted into the footwell to install. Let me know how it goes.

Yay! How bad will it eat gas?
I don’t know for certain. But expecting 8-12 mpg. Didn’t buy it for mpgs tho
That's a clean truck. Hang on to it.
Thanks! Spent its life in California until 2020.
I can't wait to hear some noise! 🤘
Me too! It’s been a LONG 2 weeks of it just sitting!
Shiny stuff
Leads to sparky stuff!
My favorite body style
I’ve loved them for decades too!
Did you have an issue where the audio goes mute when you open the trunk?
I did not have that problem. Don’t even know where to start suggesting where to look! Wonder if one of the trunk hinges are touching a speaker wire and grounding it in the trunk.
Is this all the same for the Nissan kick 2018 sv ?
I would imagine it is the same. They usually change body panels in updates but leave the underlying systems the same.
I did this repair….. installed new actuator from the dealer …….it worked for a couple of weeks and back to the same problem…… passenger side hot and driver side cold…. Checked the door prior to installing new actuator and it was not sticking….. I installed an inverted snap ring on the cracked end of the shaft before applying the glue… I am wondering if there is a thermostat somewhere which is not sending the signals to the actuator to work properly…. Will appreciate any suggestions….. This video is a great tutorial… Thank you….
I’m not sure about the thermostat. If there is an auto climate button, then it would adjust the doors without manual input. I wonder if the stepper motor stob spun inside the white bore. That would create the issue again. If the door isn’t at the same position that the motor is calling for based on the knob, the door would reach its limit and the motor would force adjustment until it slipped or cracked the bore.
I was #04 on the eagles. I been trying to look for this game for the longest,I’m happy I found it💪🏾🔥
So glad you found it too! I videoed the Hurricanes games for the last 5 seasons so you may find another in there somewhere. Our sons were #88 and #99.
Do you remember what the drone was like on this build? How bad was it? I was thinking of an x pipe and muffler delete.
Definitely do the X pipe. The 3rd cat delete and replace with straight pipe and the muffler delete made it WAY too much like country boy truck sound. Lots of pops on accel and decel. The X should tone it down. I’d do a Magnaflow muffler if I did it again.
@ Thank you for responding and sorry if my question is silly, but when you say magnaflow muffler are you talking about a magnaflow x pipe muffler that would take place of the 3rd cat ?
I’d just use an X pipe where the 3rd cat is and Magnaflow mufflers out back where the stock mufflers are.
The shaft is stuck. Any suggestions
A pair of pliers or vice grips and pull it from the top, freezer side. Should pop out.
Put the majority of the weight between the axles of the trailer and the truck
For sure! I’ll have a bigger tow vehicle next time!!
Maybe next time the ford will be pulling whatever you need
That is my hope. Haven’t towed much since my Excursion went to heaven last year.
I thought they told you it did drive? What happened?
Ends up there is a hole in the carburetor. It was too iffy to try to drive at night. Have driven around the yard. Gotta fix that carb this weekend.
It's backwards on the trailer...
Tried to reduce the tongue weight having it backwards.
Did something like that from Seattle Washington to Vancouver Washington old 67 Chevy step side towed with GMC S15 2.8l V6 via tow Bar
You asked a LOT from that 2.8! I bought a tow bar setup live an RV flat tows. Previous owner offered his trailer before i could drill out the bumper and remove the driveshaft.
Keep working on it better than buying a 100,000 truck any day
Absolutely! 100k is like 50 beaters to tinker on! I’d rather do that!
@HammerWrench for real if you have to buy a new carb it's still cheaper than buying a new truck
I’m not a purchaser of new vehicles so repairing is a definite. I am going to patch the carb since the bowl has a hole in it too. Met a fellow bullnose owner that has a box of spare parts. If that doesn’t do it, then a new carb will go in there for sure.
I think it a great truck the one in my screen name picture I got for $3500.oo had to do some work to it but worth it
Leroy, that’s an awesome deal on that Silverado. And fixing it up yourself makes you feel so much better riding in it, and NOT making payments!
If you know, you know....That trailer wagging back and forth above 45mph has to be absolutely brutally cringe. Loaded it wrong my dude, weight on the tail (engine) is hella bad news
Yeah it was not a great situation. Weight forward and I’d be fighting the light steering, weight back and the wagging showed up a few times. Only scary time was when the right tires left the shoulder on some construction zone. Glad we weren’t upside down! Will be better prepared for the future with an ample tow rig.
Can’t wait to see it running good!
I’m rebuilding the carburetor right now! It’s my first one so hope it goes smoothly!🛠️
Any luck with back up camera? Reached out to support no luck
My backup camera never worked. Planned on using a different camera but never got one.
@ smh. Support tried to send me a diagram but I seen in your video you plugged into a cam out gonna play with it
@CecilioConLa6.2 let me know if u get it going so others can use your truck for solving it. Thanks!
Isn't the towing capacity of a Sport Trac around 3500 to 4000#? 🤔 🎼🎵Time to do some sketchy shit Doo-Dah, Doo-Dah...🎶
I read it was 5500 lbs for the 4.0 2wd with the Class IV hitch. The sketch factor went way up when the trailer tires left the road in a construction area. Underwear almost ruined.
Awesome Project!
Let’s see how much fuel it can use!!
Is it Sketchy? Yes. Is it and adventure? Yes. Be careful.👍
It was so sketchy, there was a drawing of it!!! lol thought I’d flat tow it with an RV set up if it broke down. Then the guy offered his trailer. How could I say no!!!
Fixed my blend door in 20 mins as advertised. Thanks! It'll be great having heat this winter.
You know, not having cool air in summer is rough but not having heat in winter is rude!! Glad you got her fixed!!
That funny a picture of kamala
😂
