Thanks for posting. I've never heard this ditty, other than that recorded at Nonnberg Abbey. Do these sisters, sing the second verse? "She climbs a tree and scrapes her knee, her dress has got a tear"? o0o
we nuns, chorus of 25 are practicing this right now for our community play. So hard for me, who have never been in a choir, but so much fun and so beautiful! Nice job nuns!
AHHHH!!!!!!!!! I was Louisa Von Trapp and a nun in a play for the Sound of Music this year. It was the coolest experience EVER!!!! I loved learning and singing all of the Latin nun songs! :)
I think this is the best video that I have ever seen, other than the actual movie, wish you could have recorded more of the songs, like How do solve a problem like Maria?
Yeah, Sorry for sounding a little short. I was getting this confused with DIXIT DOMINUS which I took from the credits at the end of the movie. That's the gregorian chant type part just before the "Rex".
They're saying the "Gloria Patri" Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, [the recording begins here] as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
It is Rex Admiribilis. Listen to it, the lyrics, at 0:21 are "Rex admirabilis, et triumphator nobilis, dulcedo ineffabilis, ineffabilis; Totus desiderabilis, totus desiderabilis."
If I;m not mistaken, these are two songs. The first one, with the slow, flowing music and beautiful harmony is the "Morning Hymn" the second part is Alleluia. I downloaded it somewhere. unfortunately it is lost...
that was amazing... esp the rex admirabilis!!! all the parts were so clear... the alto and mezzo in our one werent very clear... yours is really good:)
Yes I know the high note was missing...the woman who played the Reverend Mother sang the high note in our show. She was not a part of our warm-up session before each show. Thanks for the compliment...it was so much fun to be a part of a 65 nun choir with those beautiful harmonies. Take care! :)

I went to Catholic school for five years and never learned the translation for these songs. I harbored a secret wish in my soul to be one of those singing nuns...And I am Jewish! I did play Mother Abbess in a talent showcase in 1967...I was only seven. Ah yes, those were the days. Can someone translate the Latin for me?
the first part is just awsome (sorry but alleluia in general is not my cup of tea it's not your version)
I love this song compilation. Whats it called?
Glorious, even without the A at the end. Would love to hear what the Confitemini Domino sounded like!
Bass part is awsome
Really beautiful! I can also imagine how this would sound with a male choir, preferably with russian oktavists :)
Beautiful!

I've never met a nun. This makes me a little... I don't know, I died a little inside this morning. :(

Wow! Fantastic! Sounded great and I really liked the strength of the altos - they're so often overshadowed by the sopranos. Wonderful job ladies!
beautiful!
Beautiful! God bless!

This is NOT Jesu Rex Admiribilis. There is Italian name for this piece but it's not that one.
Look up "Jesu Rex Admirabilis."
The song you're talking about, with the beautiful harmony is called "Jesu Rex Admirabilis."
Beautiful. Gets to the heart.
