The Scope is an experimental digital magazine focused on telling stories of justice, hope and resilience in Greater Boston. We are editorially independent and operated by Northeastern University’s School of Journalism. We aim to write stories about and for underserved communities, especially those surrounding Northeastern University. As you know, Northeastern University is a very wealthy private university but if you look at the neighborhoods surrounding it, we have Mission Hill, Roxbury, which are lower-income neighborhoods, many of the residents are working families, immigrants, black and brown communities that don’t necessarily have a lot of resources to get their stories out and help their stories reach a wider audience, and amplify voices that are often overlooked by traditional media. Our work is available for free on a variety of digital platforms and is intended to supplement, not compete with, the city’s existing news outlets.
