That thing didn’t not want to start my goodness. Your poor starter finally put out enough heat to warm the oil lol. Do you have a fuel issue typically those 30-40 ect series Deere after they rev out on a cold start the usually smooth out yours kept hick upping .
She's cold
Nice 👌 and smoky.
Just wondering how cold out was it
As it is written nothing shall separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our lord.
Every 4430 I see has the idle up til it runs on all 6 cylinders but mine don’t have that so it’s interesting cold starting it
I have a custom stack with a rain cap on my 2000 craftsman garden tractor
Now that's a cold start
Que bien cuidado que bien suena caballos de acero
Buen video
I swear I thought I smelled the raw diesel when it was turning over!
Le démarrage au forceps typique des 30 américains,j'ai eu le 4230...idem.. mais par contre le 4240 démarrait cent fois mieux... c'est un tout autre tracteur...
And it sownds like a 55 series not a 30 series
And the fendrs have 2 litse insted of 1
That's a wheerd looking 4430 becos thet is 55 frunt end
Nice tractor, we use to put a small heater under ours if we were going to start it,works great,
ever heard of a block heater?lol that thing sounds nice
If That’s the best Deere can do on a start, I would hide my head in shame. If that were a Cummins, or most any other Diesel it would have started in a quarter or less of that cranking time. Wear out a new starter in 6 starts that way.
Those old 30 series Deeres were the hardest starting tractors ever built. We had a 4230 that started like that whenever it dropped below 70 degrees. If it was below 50 you had to plug it in. The 4440 we had always started much better but it belched such a massive cloud of black smoke that one time when dad fired it up in the shed the old widow lady who lived on the farm across the road saw the smoke rolling out the door and called my mom and told her our shed was on fire. LOL
Deere built good transmissions. IH built good motors.
Kiralar...asliyr
These old 30 series tractors are such hard starts. I love watching it though.
That's what I like to see JD's with their OE stacks.
die arme auspuffklappe
Greta is coming for you... Lol
Good old tractor. Learned to drive clutch on one of those girls
X
The JD 4640 we have on our farm is like this when we start it when it’s 50 and below but our 4440 is like this when it’s 0 or below
4640 has a bigger motor so it takes more to get it started
@@klara8897 4440 and 4640 have the same 466 motor, only difference is the 4440 doesn’t have a intercooler
@@Born2FarmForced2Wrench no 4640 puts out more power witch means it pumps more fule ect with makes it start harder
@@connork4440 the difference in stock pump settings is minimal, under normal conditions a 46 and 44 would be pretty much equal in starting capacity, especially since they have the hydraulic aneroid to start at full fuel. The reason the original commenters 46 starts harder is likely because it’s either just a higher houred tractor, and the aneroid may not be adjusted perfectly, or, he 44 might have also had its aneroid screw adjusted to allow it to start better
Since there’s lights in that shop that means it has electricity. Run a cord to the block heater from now on. It saves the starter, the rings, the engine oil and the main bearings.
Robert F, OK smarty, next time I’ll tell the neighbor to leave his truck in the ditch for a few hours while the block heater warms the engine. Get to know the whole story before you fire off assumptions. Also, I’d love to hear your theory about the rings, the engine oil, and the main bearings. Actually, no I don’t, because I think you’ll just run off at the mouth again. Starter? I’ll give you that. Cold starts, and long cranking is sure tough on starters and batteries. FYI, same starter and same batteries since this video was taken a couple of years ago, so I think it’s going to be ok after one tough start, to help a friend in need.
ck06mw are you 5? Grow up and have an adult conversation. Did I jump down your throat about it? No. You post a video you made on purpose to showcase a long crank time on a cold Diesel engine and then get all butthurt when someone suggest how to improve your tractors starting performance? Grow up man. If you need an education on how warm oil pumps faster and lubricates quicker and better during initial start up then you shouldn’t be operating heavy equipment. Not to mention cylinder wash and oil dilution from the fuel in oil. It doesn’t take a “smarty” to know this. Anybody who has more than 2 brain cells gets this basic concept. Helping a friend out? Neighbors truck in a ditch???? TF are you talking about???? I don’t know your back story and I don’t care and for your info no one else does either. You made a video about cold starting a farm tractor, so that’s the comments you should expect. Take a moment to not let emotion run your life and make you in to a douche bag in the eyes of the world. You might actually learn something.
I just got a notification that now you’re subscribing to me? I don’t have a channel or post videos. Are you a fucking weirdo or something?
Robert F Robert F Robert F HAHA! This is awesome. You’re quite predictable. “Butthurt”, “more than 2 brain cells”, “douche bag” Yep, you sure set a fine example of an “adult conversation”. Truck in the ditch means, the neighbor put the truck in the ditch, in the snow, and called for help. Since it was winter and only 18°and it’s a 404, I knew it would start hard, so I set up the phone to record it. Unless you click on videos to just offer obvious advice (referencing the observation of the lights, and the fact it takes electricity to make them work, so I could have plugged in the block heater) you must think cold start videos are pretty cool too. In reference to the emotion comment, I would have to suggest you follow your own advice. As far as the oil, cylinder wash, oil dilution, if you are concerned about that after 1 start attempt that lasted a minute and a half, you may benefit from that aforementioned education as well. Keep the comments coming if you wish. I will continue to read them. I have thoroughly enjoyed the exchange this evening. Also, you must actually care a little bit about the “back story” or you wouldn’t have read this far into the comment.
ck06mw I had to throw in buzzwords to help you follow along. You’re really trying here but the fact remains you posted a video with an open comment section and can’t handle when someone suggest ways to help your tractor start faster in cold conditions. Not only will your tractor thank you but your friend will too since they won’t be waiting for you to quit playing with your phone. It’ll give you more time to stalk people too.
you should throw a straight pipe on it that would sound so good
Need to hook up the block heater!
Great model but cold blooded bastards
Do you like the light kit?
Ronnie Stewart I do. It’s really helpful while planting at night.
John Deere Iron Horse-I'd grap the rein if I could🇺🇸🖤👍✌️

Plugging in a block heater would help
Yeah but you wouldn’t get the cold start
Have you ever tried to start a 4430?
@@brandonkorell7136 No but was around them when I was a kid.
@Brenden Gore almost 2 years ago, my boss lost his 4450 tractor in a fire because the heat block was very old and the electricity is what was believed to be the cause. Plus it was under 10 degrees that morning.
@@brandonkorell7136 That was a typical cool start, a proper cold start was much more dramatic. I remember helping my dad start his 1977 4430, block heater, tiger torch, tarp, ether and a lot of swearing getting it started on a -35C day.
Something is wrong with that thing
Ddd
Hard on the starter. Abuse.
rob peters abuse? I’d rather buy a new starter every season than fill an engine full of ether. By the way... this video was taken a few years ago, and it currently has the same starter, batteries, and cables as in the video.
@@ck06mw eh the 404's were made for ether. all the 40 series were
No entiendo x q marchan tan mal y umean como el tren a vapor esosJD
When I was growing up my dad had a 4430 when we used to farm it was a hard to starting tractor but great machine was you’d get it started.
Yeah I think every single 4430 was cold starters I knew a guy who used ether in 95 degree summer heat to get his running
Our 4430 was also a bitch to start and South African winters aren't even that cold ... Was n brute when it got going though 😀👍
The 404 was a much harder starting engine than the 466’s, although all JD’s from probably 1965 until 2000 are cold blooded. It’s recommended to ether them.
@@oe542 no do not use ether plug in the block heater and use the fuel primer only use ether if you really have to
4430s didn’t have head lights up front above the weights
That's a headlight kit on a tractor you dumb-ass
That must be hard on the battery or batteries.
looks like low compression to me , maybe even poor injectors
have you started many turbo-ed JD 404 engines?
That’s just how they are.
No thats just how these tractors are if you want it to start easy plug it in and prime the fuel system
@@oe542 Yep. they were that way back when they were new. I dunno how Deere dealers ever sold one during winter and there were several COLD winters back in the mid 1970s.
Still I haven't see any John Deere to start up as it should -- easy. This is far from the cold start..and stil has the hard time. My small IMT 539 in much harder circumstances do not allow me to touch it on the starter button and it already works.
He keep pressing the start button from 0:05 to 0:55 eheeeeey 50 seconds. My small tractor is starting for less than a second..This is not just this case...just glance at youtube JD cold start you'll see...NOT one JD starts easy, every JD has a hard time to start
@@user-sb8fi8jq5g This has probably a bigger engine then your tractor, so yeah yours will start faster...
Yes my 539 is preaty smal tractor but...nevertheless I haven't seen even small JD to start up as it should. Just look how easy start imt539 ua-cam.com/video/VKfdmDy8hXg/v-deo.html this is is not my tractor but start like my 539. Take a look how tractors has started almost 100 years ago, without battery ua-cam.com/video/3bX6wYJBHNc/v-deo.html So it is really surprise me that worldwide best tractor manufacturer produce this modern tractors like space shuttles and still have hard time just to start.
John Deere’s are cold blooded. But if you plug them in or ether them you’re ok but most people just crank the starter until it fires.
Great video!!
Pheewww! I think you just melted another Glacier somewhere!
STOP SMOKING!!!!!!
I see you don't have a problem with birds in your shop..... live ones anyway!
dzon is a sheatt
better change the fuel filters
Wait, I know that tractor....and the guy running it!
