#145 - Ryan Rosenblatt discusses Netflix and Women's World Cup broadcast rights!
We are back in time for the holidays with Episode 145 as Ryan Rosenblatt joins us to break down Netflix’s acquisition of the U.S. broadcast rights (www.starsandstripesfc.com/2024/12/20/24325866/netflix-exclusive-usa-broadcasting-rights-2027-2031-womens-world-cup-usa-uswnt) for the 2027 and 2031 Women’s World Cups!
The streaming service has tens of millions of subscribers, and they will now be the sole broadcast provider for the next two Women’s World Cup tournaments. Ryan Rosenblatt, who has amazing insight on the intricacies behind these sorts of deals, comes on the show to discuss those details. From the ramp up in production to the addressing of their recent failures with one-off sporting events to how accessible they would need to make each match, it’s a great conversation that has some thoughtful approaches to what Netflix could and should do as well as the sharing of the real concerns facing the streaming service as it prepares to bring the tournament to a national audience. They have 2.5 years to make things happen, which is still a good bit of time. But, it’s short enough that the urgency needs to be there for Netflix to put together the production that they want and make it accessible to American sports fans, particularly those who wish to watch the USWNT (www.starsandstripesfc.com/) .

another example of US Soccer ineptitude.......
The whole thing was taken out of context. Some people defined the “liked post” as “celebrating teammate’s injury”. FALSE. After suffered her career ending injury six minutes into her final game, Pinoe said that it is a proof God does not exist. The post Albert liked was a response to Pinoe’s statement using exactly the same storyline - the God took a vacation (implying the God does exist but was just absent when Pinoe injured). In what way this liked post could ever been interpreted as “celebrating”? If Pinoe can joke about God, they can too. This is a perfect response to Pinoe’s statement. I also saw plenty of double standards here. When Pinoe said God does not exist, this was not hurtful for her teammates who believe in God. While when one of these teammates reacted with the same storyline, it was hurtful. When Pinoe said God not exist, her Christian teammates should feel safe while one of her teammates reacted by joking God taking vacation, the team becomes unsafe. When gay players started to show up in the team, no one pushed back. while when a Christian player reacted to denial of God, gay players are not OK since there is no place for hatred. By the way, I am not a Christian. I am Chinese. I knew what it looked like back in the Chinese culture revolution in the sixties and seventies. It looked very much like what the America is right now - ONLY this is right, anyone who does not think this way is totally wrong and must be cancelled in any aspect of their life. I am sad to see America, once as a freedom lighthouse country for the whole world, has now become so radical and extreme. As long as you put up the LGBT flag, it is perfectly fine to publicly deny the existence of a god of a religion. If those who believe in God fight back, they are wrong, hurtful, ridiculous, all kinds of phobia, and making the team unsafe. What the hell is going on here?!?! Since when LGBT started to enjoy superpower to override other values, since when disrespecting a religion became totally fine, since when these pro-LGBT people got on their high horse and became the thought police?!?!

Start playing soccer and get rid of the noise.
look, Albert is old enough to know right from wrong. all these people making excuses for her due to age? gtfo. you dont do what shes done and not know how it affects others. appears her family is the exact same way. im all for people growing and showing contrition, but the apology seems just a little to perfect. she needs to show, not tell from here on out. its too bad, she was playing well, now she has a black mark against her. these players are pros, but dont think for one moment some of them will purposely see past Alberts values. theres no room for that kind of hate. its the same problem Jaelene Daniels had. she loved her teamates on the field, but off didnt think some of them should exist as people, cuz, beliefs. you cant have it both ways. really worried about Hayes coming in. i dont care if shes a good coach, shes been having her own issues lately and her most recent problem wasnt something i want to see from a head coach on the International level.
She's young. She's learning what her words/posts can do to affect others. Hopefully, that will be a lesson that helps her grow into a better person. She doesn't have to agree with everyone else, but she definitely has to change the way she expresses her personal beliefs. There's room for kindness here.
And Albert has A LOT of work to rebuild trust. Right now, her excuse and 'apology' was for herself. NOW, the growing up begins.
And the cherry on the top of the cake: she's been wearing no.15 the same as Sir Pinoe. ):
10:11-4:21 Well put. Thank you for that well thought out articulation. Much of the WOSO fan base are EXTREMELY pro LGBTQIA+. It takes no genius to make this observation, look no further than ANY NWSL stadium to view all the rainbow flags and banners proclaiming "Protect Trans Youth". Korbin Albert really messed up publically vs privately stating her beliefs with those posts in the sense of how could she not know that doing that given the LGBTQIA+ support in WOSO that that would perhaps cost her a lot of fan support? I know it has effected my support of her. I hope she can learn from this.
