I'm Kyle, known by most as, "That Guy Outdoors." I medically separated from the Army in 2023, a new chapter began. Lover of the outdoors-hiking, kayaking, mountain biking-I'm seeking nature's embrace.
In 2019, the idea blossomed: a few years traveling, visiting parks, discovering the wonders. I was enchanted with the "Vagabond" life.
Van? Bus? Truck Camper? Cost? How much do I need? I returned to 2 questions: "Why am I out here?" & "What truly matters, how much is enough?"
This channel unveils a quest for answers. The tapestry of my journey, woven with insights & experiences. Not just for me, for us all. Let's delve into life together. Discover the pulse of the open road, the heart of minimalism, & magnificence of the outdoors.
We navigate decision-making, count costs, & savor the moments. Our chance to share & unearth the essence of life lived in pursuit of the great unknown. Welcome to a channel, where Outdoor Exploration & Adventures find their home, SUBSCRIBE & be part of it all.

Factory Butte Adventures: Photo Shoot with Storyteller Overland & Taxa Outdoors | TGO S2E21
In Episode 21 of That Guy Outdoors, we continue our epic journey through southern Utah, heading toward the stunning Factory Butte for an exciting photo and video shoot with Storyteller Overland and Taxa Outdoors! 🚐🎥
Picking up from our last episode, we drive through the breathtaking Glen Canyon area and make a stop in Hanksville, UT before arriving at Factory Butte. This stunning desert landscape, with its vast mesas and sweeping badlands, sets the stage for some incredible shots. 📸
The shoot is focused on the new 2025 Storyteller Overland models and the Taxa Outdoors X Series trailers, with a special spotlight on their off-road capabilities, cutting-edge design, and rugged durability. If you check out the manufacturer websites, you might spot some familiar faces in the photos-yes, even Sur got to model and check out the new rigs! 😎
The Factory Butte area is mesmerizing, with stunning sunrises and sunsets that paint the desert in golden hues. While there wasn’t one standout feature of the landscape, the magic of the light and the vast, untouched desert captured the essence of the West like nothing else. 🌅
Along the way, we had to stop in Hanksville for a quick pit stop, and let me tell you, this part of southern Utah has no shortage of places to explore. There are so many areas to turn off and go off the beaten path, making it a place we’ll definitely be returning to for more adventures. 🌵

@@KG_MP 🤣 I LOVE that movie! 🍿
thank you for your service my family and me say hi enjoy life
Thank you 🙏 👋🏻 right back at all of ya. 🤓
longest breakfast in history.
lol. It’s always enjoyable to spend time with my food. 🤣
Love the recap brother! Amazing travels!
Good stuff brother!! Happy adventures!
Awesome stuff brother. Wish you safe travels and fun adventures!
@@lynx-ry4dl thanks! We’ll have to catch up soon.
Love you brother! Keep up the vibes!!
Hey brother, I always heard you “jibber-jabber” my than listen to music 😆
Hey man, great content! I also have this year's Cricket and love it. A couple things you might want to check out- Geyser Systems shower (owned it for two years now and love it- under one gallon per shower), and Boxio toilet (composting toilet and it fits perfectly in the bottom slot to the right of the kitchen). Enjoy your travels!
Awesome! Search and Rescue thanks for sharing!!
Such an amazing time!
Why sway bars on your hitch ? With your travels thus far do you find them necessary ?
I use them for 2 reasons. 1. It’s a weight distribution system so it helps prevent the rear of the car from sagging. 2. It keeps the Subaru & Cricket in unison. Handling is improved. 3. No trailer sway in windy conditions or when other vehicles might blow by on the highway. ***Key thing is that I actually sway hitches when I get off road.
@@ThatGuyOutdoors interesting - yeah I knew about the sway. Asking because, I’m looking to get the exact same set up! I’m watching loads of videos, reading, and was glad to find your channel. I would probably travel more northern US and Canada than maybe you R doing. I’m originally from ND. Would you still recommend the Wilderness for pulling that trailer? >>> Rockies, E and W coast of Canada,…etc.? Thx you the recommendations.
@@davidkrueger3152 Absolutely I’d recommend the Outback! I’ve been extremely impressed & happy with it. My first choice was a Tacoma but I’m glad I went with my gut of the Outback.
@@ThatGuyOutdoors okay thanks - one last thing. So on your travels, you were happy with pulling over a mountain pass with a steep grade?
@davidkrueger3152 I LOVE steep grades. I found with the Subaru I can still accelerate up the hills with ease. 🤓 pulling up hill through the North Cascades not only accelerating but the handling is amazing!
Good trip and enjoyed music selection, nice.
Those wonderful quiet moments I burn into my memories. That way when I'm being tortured by life.
Yes!! 🙌 Gradually I’ve made the wonderful quiet moments more frequent. 😌
Amen
Is your cricket the Overlander build? Or Standard? (I haven't seen that yet, in your videos.)
It’s the Standard version. I would highly recommend the Overland version if you’re doing some Overlanding. Not that the standard version isn’t fully capable, just that it’s harder on the axel & suspension plus the articulating hitch is awesome for off roading. 🤓
@@ThatGuyOutdoors Did you upgrade the rear suspension for the tongue weight on the standard?
Looking forward to watching your videos. My wife and I are looking to upgrade from our Adventure Trailer (We've had it for 18 years) and get a cricket. Is yours the overland build? We drive a 2022 Outback Wilderness too. We just spent 5 months in Baja. I've been in and out of baja since 1986, and we have a tiny place in Todos Santos.
Mine is NOT the overland version… That being said, I 💯 recommend getting the overland version. Just the suspension & articulating hitch is KEY if you’re doing Baja. 🤓 Again NOT required, but will definitely be way less stressful & probably break less stuff. 🤣 Feel free to reach out anytime!!
@@ThatGuyOutdoors THAT IS GREAT INFORMATION! Thank you. If you ever get to baja again, come down and camp on our upper lot.
@webofsupport I’ll be headed back down in December. 😁 Planning to do “The Road Less Traveled To Escapar A La Baja” Off Road from San Felipe to La Paz. 🥸 🤪
@@ThatGuyOutdoors I rode a tandem bike down Baja, from Tecate to Cabo in 1993. Great memories for sure. Different times. I have paddled, boated, walked, hike, bicycled all over baja since 1986. Yes, it has changed. And, no it hasn't. Depends where you are, and who you are talking to.
@@ThatGuyOutdoors Enjoy! Van Life's version of Burning Man. ;-)
Sur ❤❤❤
Well, I tried to get your attention, but I didn't want to kill us both. I was in the red Ford Explorer that passed you, right at the San Pedro River, in Southern Arizona. I absolutely love your videos, and I've watched quite a few, and to see you out here, in my neck of the woods, sorry for the language, but it was fucking amazing!!
That’s AWESOME! I’ll be in the area here through the end of April! You should totally come check out Weird Wild West in Bisbee April 18-22. I’ll be there with a ton of cool stuff going on! 😁
@ThatGuyOutdoors Well CRAP!! Believe me, I would absolutely LOVE that, but I'm actually starting my first thru hike adventure on the 8th, and hitting the Arizona Trail. If some time between now, and then, if there's anything you doing, I would freaking love to come watch!! As far as day, and time, that won't be a problem, I'm a disabled combat veteran, and have nothing but time on my hands. For real though, when I came up behind you, and recognized who you were, I was like a giddy little school girl.
@ThatGuyOutdoors you were actually my inspiration for taking my Ford Explorer, and and converting it to a camper. And traveling across the United states, just going from adventure to adventure. I wish I could afford like one of those little teardrop tow behind campers, but it ain't in the cards. Me and my dad we'll be doing the conversion ourselves, so it won't be too expensive.
It’s not about the fancy stuff. I actually started traveling in my Mazda 3 Hatchback before I was in the Cricket. It’s about the journey & enjoyment along the way. Plus your build will be amazing especially the journey doing it with your Dad. 😁
Break, not brake. Feel free to fix and delete this comment. I want you to succeed but bad grammar or spelling will affect that.
lol. Yeah it was a bit of a play on words since it was the emergency brakes that were the problem. 🤪🤓🤣 A little Dad humor. I’ll probably change it. I’ve received a ton of messages about it. 🥸
Another great video, my friend why would you wanna leave Baja for. I always get sad when I have to come back home from Baja
It was somewhat easy to head up just to start planning for the trip back in December. 🙃
@@ThatGuyOutdoors I’m always there for the holidays
Hi, what kind of SUP does Lexy have, seems very sturdy? We have about 3 weeks to get back north, and yeah, already planning our return. Great video
It’s FunWaterSUP. 🤓
fav moment was the tacos 🌮 😊 thanks for a fun time ❤
It was a pleasure getting to hang with you & Hadley! 😁🐶🐾
You are clueless for even being in Mexico, evey little town and village is controled by the murdering drug cartels, watch Borderland Beat and see what is really happening in Mex
I'm sorry you've been so mislead. I have been traveling around Mexico with several other solo nomads & we all feel the same way. MEXICO IS SAFE! Serving many years in the US Army, including in combat, I will tell you that I PERSONALLY feel that traveling in Baja California & Baja California Sur has felt more welcoming & safer than many areas I have traveled in the past. Instead of watching something like Borderland Beat with an agenda, I'd recommend getting out and traveling to see for yourself. :) Best wishes and safe travels!
LOL mexico is wayyyy safer than the US. get out and see for yourself instead of watching the news 😅😘🫶🏻
I've lived in multiple parts of Mexico and visited even more (remote, rural, and urban included) and haven't had any issues. People seem to get scared about going to Mexico because of a few things others have experienced.. Guess what, we have that in the US, too. But it's so commonplace in the States and the country news is so isolated to a specific city/area that news reports don't make it nationwide typically. Definitely would recommend getting out there and experiencing it for yourself with an open mind. You'd be surprised at how wonderful Mexico is and how welcoming Mexican folk are.
Between being in Mexico and Guatemala, I haven't been back to the states in well over a year; I've had no real issues in that time. Friends, family, and some outdoors stuff aside, I have nothing really compelling me to return. Honestly, I'd rather not for the foreseeable future. Not that I dislike my own country by any means; it's just that there's also a ton of wonderful things about Latin America. Also, Mexico is a big country, with 127 million people in it, and a variety of different cultures and living conditions. There is no one way the whole country is. Avoiding the whole of Mexico because of some random TV show would be like saying don't go to La Jolla because you saw some bad news from east Detroit. Just like most places, there are good spots and bad, good people and bad.
🤣 you have obviously never been to baja. It is safer than a lot of places in the lower 48. Not all what you watch in TV or the internet is real. Bad things happen everywhere,. Stop trolling the interwebs and get out of your house. Fear is the worst way to live your life. But also.... never mind. You are 100% correct. You shouldn't come here. We and the local hispanics don't need your sheltered, bigotry way of thinking
Running drugs or guns is a profitable side gig I see.
🤣🤣🤣 if that were the case, I’d be on a yacht 🛥️ 😝
Nice video, Taxa Outdoors should sponsor you for showing how you can live full time on the Cricket that’s how I started fallowing you
Thank you! 🙏 I’m working on trying to see if I can do some work with @taxaoutdoors 🤓🙏🤪
Love your adventures and your journey. Great videos!!! On a personal level, I’m really starting to hate the Yourube free use music. Especially the music you use at the 2:45 mark. Like I said, that’s a personal beef. Really like the reggae and southwest type music . Just my two cents. Keep up the good work and thank you for your service. Looking forward to your adventures!!!
Thank you! I’ve got to start sourcing some new music without violating copyright laws. 😂🤓

Your videos are very beautiful, and it seems like you know a lot about UA-cam. Please make the thumbnail a bit catchier, and the font style and colour you're using they are not bright. Pay attention to this matter. I hope your CTR will increase.

The real name is Baja California..ppl from us don't want call it California. Is part of the California US land stolen
I 💯 respect that. You are correct it is Baja California & Baja California Sur. Often referred to as the Baja Peninsula. The title was simply shortened to Baja due to the limit on charters. 🤓😁 🇲🇽
I would like to ask you how to get in touch with a group of people to do a caravan from San Diego to La Paz. Thanks.
My first suggestion is to join Talk Baja on Instagram & the Facebook group. Next, start listening to the Baja Slow podcast. Finally, go to www.thejournaloflosttime.com go to the events section & look at the Escapar a la Baja event…then join the WhatsApp chat. ALL of these sources are what I personally believe to be the ultimate Baja sources. Including finding folks to caravan with. 😁🤓
Thank you.@@ThatGuyOutdoors
Great video, neighbor! We are the green skoolie (Huckleberry), and we would love to see the cricket. You have great drone footage. 🎉
The video quality is great, but the thumbnail doesn't quite match with your Video. Can I help you with making eye-catching thumbnails, I specialize in thumbnail design.
Thank you for the offer. I’m organically growing the channel and prefer to keep it that way. I’m also doing the work personally. As I continue to grow my filming, editing, & story telling skills. I am also starting to work on my title, description writing, & thumbnail creation. 😁🤓
Nice videos my friend, I have a few questions regarding your Cricket 1. Any leaks from rain 2. How did she handle off road cuz I see you have the standard. I’m really thinking of buying the Overland Edition but I need people’s experience from their’s….BTW look into the EverShower System I think it will fit inside the Cricket
Thank you! 😁 1. No leak issues. I’ve been extremely happy with my Cricket. That said, it is still something that requires attention AS DO ALL vehicles. 🤓 I have had to replace about 3-4 rivets so far. Keep in mind that’s about 40k miles. 🤪 2. I’ve had no issues with off road… it IS my home, so I don’t try driving 20 mph on a Baja off road. I will say that I have definitely been thinking about upgrading to the Overland suspension & the articulating hitch. So, if you’re looking at the Cricket & think you’ll spend as much time or more off road then I’d get the Overland. Just my opinion though. 😎
Fav part? Getting to see my kid in this video ❤ I'm going to share your video with a friend who is taking a sabbatical from her career and loves to travel. Maybe your going to inspire her to try a new approach.
Love this! Thank you for sharing! Also, KB is an inspiration herself! 😁
Great video!
Thank you! 😊
