I wanted to like the Laifen Wave. I really did. Even so, the Wave that I received was unusable, and so I returned it. WHY I RETURNED THE WAVE: Despite being irritated by the fact that, in order to use the app, I MUST supply my email address, I acquiesced and supplied my email address. I subsequently received an activation code via email. After entering the activation code, yes, I was able to pair my phone with the Wave. And yes, using the app, I was presented with sliders and buttons, purportedly allowing me to “customize” the Wave. HOWEVER, despite the app showing that I was connected to the Wave, and despite making changes within the app, the app did NOT control the Wave in real time. That is I could not change vibration speeds, oscillation speeds, etc. I couldn’t even use the app to turn on/off travel mode. Moreover, my attempted changes couldn’t be saved, and they would revert back to defaults upon reopening the app. That is, despite making changes within the app, 1) the app did NOT control the device in real time, and 2) the app did NOT allow for saving any of the setting that I changed. With regard to using the toothbrush without using the app, unfortunately, all three preset modes seemed to be IDENTICAL. And so my “three mode” toothbrush was effectively a “one mode” toothbrush, that one mode having an oscillation rate that’s too fast for my taste. Maybe I received a dud. Or maybe maybe I needed to tweak some settings. But either way, I don’t have the time or patience to troubleshoot a toothbrush. It didn’t work, and I sent it back. HERE IS WHAT I LIKED: The motor is strong. Hardware build quality seems good. WHAT NEEDS IMPROVEMENT: Obviously, the above recited issues with the app need to be sorted out. The current charger cable isn’t good for travel. If sticking with the current magnetic 3-pin approach, then Laifen should provide a small “puck” that includes both the magnetic 3-pin interface and a female usb-c socket (thereby allowing for use with a standard usb-c cable). And if that 3-pin interface could be on the top of the puck, and the female usb-c socket could the side of the puck (thereby allowing for using the puck as a stand), that would be even better. Using “double clicks” on the current single button to move between modes is way too difficult. On a future “Wave v2” model, I would prefer to have at least TWO buttons: a first button for selecting between on, off, travel lock, etc.; and a second button for selecting between brushing modes. On a future “Wave v2” model, I would prefer to have at least FIVE brushing modes. On a future “Wave v2” model, I would prefer to have an excessive brushing force warning indicator. On a future “Wave v2” model, I would prefer to have true wireless charging. A supplied wireless charger would be nice, but should ALSO be able to charge using a standard Qi charging pad.
