Walking in a Winter Wonderland - Christmas jam
You know every once in a while I come across A DS1 and every time I think it will suck Because I started with one going thru a Crate Full stack (GX C.R.A.P.) as Young Dude. I am always amazed at how dynamic it really is, and how Much I have changed to proper Signal Settings to Cut. I will always take the super Badass though
I've been racking my brain for weeks trying to figure out which one to buy. This really helped. Looks like I'm going to go with a 339 in Pelham Blue.
Hi Sam, which song are you playing at the intro? It rocks!
Okay, interesting. That multi effects is an old model. I wonder if the newer Boss multipedal board could compete with the individual pedals.
Both sound good to me but I think the fuzz comes through better when the wah goes first
Reminds me of flanger
I always keep my mid down to 0 and the amp opens up.
You can bear arms but can you bear feet 😮
Well actually you need a single coil on the bridge but the rest of fine
Hola! Recomendarías esa guitarra? Cuánto cuesta? Saludos desde Chile
I recently bought a squier affinity telecaster for 188 € on Amazon Warehouse deals. It‘s a Chinese one with string through body and a control plate which leaves more space between the knob and the switch, which I like a lot. I shielded the interior with copper band, changed the stock pickups with tonerider vintage pro pups, installed a 4 way switch for having the additional option of both pickups in series, made the complete rewiring with vintage style braided wires (which no one will ever see but make me feel better), changed the plastic nut with a bone nut (which was a pain in the ass, since the plastic nut was somehow not intended to be removable and was quite a bit narrower than the bone nut) and installed brass saddles (6 of them for better adjustment compared to the vintage 3 saddle telecaster saddles) Everything else I left unchanged, so it is hard to tell the difference to a stock affinity telecaster when you just see it. But for sure it is a huge upgrade to its sound. It was a lot of fun, especially because it’s also my very first custom guitar I modified myself. It is my favourite now, and I like it even a bit more than my original USA fender strat which was 5 time the price, even with the upgrades included. I enjoyed your video, nice to see a different approach on the (almost) same guitar with outstanding result. Also very nice playing.
THi and thanks from Argentina. So... You use Chorus, Delay, Tube screamer and Booster? And the amp? In the edge of breakup or totally clean?
You have the Mark Knopfler sound
I never have to turn my bj past 4, bothe volume knobs, to get enough volume even playing out
Sounds great with that Tele! I agree with you. Short story long: I purchased a SBA when they first came out. Was my main dirt pedal for years going through a Bassman RI playing predominantly classic rock and blues. Then came Covid, and while everything was shut down and no one was playing, I impulsively purchased an EVH overdrive. My initial reaction was that the pedal was a beast and ended up on my board. Fast forward to 2023, I ended up doing a pick up gig with some old friends, and something told me “Put that SBA back on the board, just in case” Good thing I did. During soundcheck I had the EVH on…….guitar was invisible. Totally buried, and that pedal too has a 3 band eq and the mids were cranked. I switched over to the SBA……guitar was back. And so is the SBA on my board. Thanks for the video 👍🏻
Interesting comparison, thank you!
EXCELLENT PLAYING / SOUND GREAT .. LOVE THE FENDER PUPS .. GOOD JOB , PAL ..
Sounds good man. Do you remember how you got this tone?
Mxr dyna comp, fulltone full drive 2 w/ boost, boss super chorus, EHX canyon tape delay setting.
Mxr is very versatile
Look at how he doesnt even touch gain knub in mxr
To my ear the difference in negligable
MXR can create much more variety of tones with using bass/mid/high tone knobs, than DS-1. Love MXR's smooth sounds.
Thanks
I feel like I either watched a different video than everybody else or I misunderstood the order, fuzz into wah sounded waaayyy cooler
DS-1 all the way.
My take is the MXR leans towards the high gain modern metal while the Boss is old school. The solution is simple for the gigging guitarist, buy both of them…..
MXR at the start sounded scooped and "boxy"...could have been EQd better. Also the Blues Jr is a boxy sounding amp...I had one for year and even changing the speaker to a C12N it still sounded boxy. Still, the 3 band EQ of the MXR is a real advantage over the DS1 singe tone control...I think the MXR could have been better demonstrated.
I actually agree with you. at the start I was trying to just have everything straight up and that didn't sound good... so I messed around with the EQ. some of the issue was also the placement of the mic for recording the amp... so it sounded even more boxy than it is. I just recently did a "review" of the MXR and it sounds 100x better than this.
Badass just kicked ass
It really is an awesome pedal. I think a lot of people sleep on it
Tx is brighter I’ve got both 2 keep tele n
He finally plucks a string a little after 3:05. Just sayin'...
Great video! I bought my Daphne blue Squire Deluxe Strat in about 2012 brand new for 249.00 on sale at guitar center where I had to order it! I bought it because I researched and saw all the rave reviews for such a great bang for the buck guitar then. They especially raved about the high quality neck that would normally be on a much pricier guitar! It was my first and only electric guitar! I started playing guitar about then and I still play it often today and love it! I always thought if I ever upgrade, it will be to a fender american deluxe strat! It seems like my squire is almost every bit as good if not better than the mexican fender Strat! Im just wondering how much better the american deluxe strat will truly be! lol Well for well over 1000.00 Im sure its a better guitar. But at my level now, especially not playing in a band. Im not sure if I will ever truly need it! lol Again, thanks so much! Great video! Bob
Strange to pot a video on youtube about something you dont now how to use
Saya pilih MXR Super Badass!
Saya gitaris dangdut amatir saya kebetulan pakai pedal mxr super badass distortion. Lebih gurih di padu dengan chorus delay dan reverb lebih lembut dist nya kalau boss DS 1 kurang tebal distortionnya lebih ke low mid. Saya kurang suka itu kembali lagi ke selera 🙏
I recently bought this pedal and tried it out on my solid state and modeling amps and thought it was just okay, it seemed a bit dark and lifeless, however when i ran it into my Peavey Classic tube amp it really shined! It really came to life, it complemented the tube amp extremely well, the morph knob hadgreater variation, when I strummed harder it would break up more when I played softly it would clean up. It sounds very analog. It also seemed to tame ever so slight harsh tones coming from my Alnico V pickups. I could easliy match the pedals tone to my tube amps tone, I got great slight breakup at the lower gain settings and easily got into classic rock overdrive with the gain up. My first impression was i did not like it until I plugged into my tube amp and now I love it!
So 80’s. So good. Maybe I missed it, what amp are you using?
I believe I was using my blues Jr.
Terrible tone, This is not how you do it.
You’re right. This video was like 2009… so of course it wasn’t good. My only hope is that I’ve grown to be a ton better at getting great tone and learned how to record better. Check out some of the newer stuff. Thanks!
I agree, the TAD tubes were a tad bit warmer on the low end, and it sounded like the GT were brighter actually
Thank you
I cut 4,5 diodes out of my ds1 now it kicks ass
I saw a similar video, but then they put a buffer between the fuzz and wah when fuzz was first and seemed to make a big difference
It's so strange on my FSR BJIV.... I can only get "dirt"/"breakup" when I hit max Master Vol and 2 on Volume... Using single coil Strat and Tele.... I have tried all settings shown here and many others. I have pedals and can alter the tone easily with those additions. But, it is leading to major discontent with this amp. The range I see and hear in videos just feels unobtainable and it is frustrating. I genuinely wonder if there is something wrong with my gear due to how much effort I have put into replicating the settings from videos like this. Ugh.
I wonder if your master volume and regular volume are wired backwards. The master volume all the way up should give you the cleanest tone possible.
Huh. So, od>fuzz>od lol. Is it a similar concept for distortion?
I have a 2009 Squier Affinity Telecaster. Looks like yours. It’s a great guitar, although I agree with you that the stock electronics suck. I’ve upgraded the pickups, but still need to upgrade the control panel. What do you recommend for that? Thanks for the video.
I went to stew Mac online and got CTS pots, a fender switch, orange drop cap, and has to get a new panel b/c the Squier one doesn’t fit the CTS pots.
Used on a New York Minute- Don Henly and Paul Young Every time you go away, On Bass Guitar Pino Palladino also The Who bass player. ......
I own and use the Boss ME 80. I also own and use the individual Boss pedals, distortion DS-1, Boss chorus CE 2W, and Boss super od - 1. For quick home use, the ME 80 is great. You are 100% correct, we agree, the ME 80 muli effects is just missing something. Disconnect it and plug in the individual pedals on the pedal board and wow! Does it ever make the tone come roaring to life! Why the manufacturers can't get them to sound the same is beyond my technical knowledge but I believe that it should be a possibility.
Can you please tell me if the power unit was supplied with the Boss TU-3S?
It was not. That is a separate purchase
I consider two of the things you did a down grade. The ashtray bridge, because intonation is better and easier to set on the stock bridge. The jack it came with is a more durable design than the vintage style jack.
I agree that the intonation “can be” (and those are the key words) better with the individual saddled bridge… but that stock bridge was absolute crap and didn’t intonate worth anything. The Wilkinson bridge has compensated saddles… and it intonates really well. I think the jack is a preference thing and haven’t had any issues with it. I think they would be downgrades if the Squier stuff wasn’t pure trash.
@@pedalheadgeardemos all the Squiers are trash from the get go 🤭
Im finding more and more that pots, switches, and caps have a great affect on your tone. The pickups should be the last thing changed. Like for Squier, change to CTS pots, a Oak or CRL switch (can add 4 way switching while your at it and series wiring), a orange drop cap. If you dont change these first, you might not be hearing the full potential of your pickup. Then bridge and saddles makes a big difference on a Tele. Then maybe tuners and nut. And pickups should be last. These are all cheap upgrades compared to pickups especially pots, caps, and switches.
I would agree. I put the Texas specials in my tele with the old bridge, wiring pots and caps and it sounded only marginally better. Swapped all that out for CTS pots, OD cap, fender switch, new wiring and Wilkinson bridge with brass saddles… HUGE difference in tone
`what kind of distortion did you use?sounds rock man \m/
I forget. I think I used my boss ME 80 distortion with the Marshall stack amp modeler.
