Simply because hanggliding is so wonderful, I am posting some of my flying adventures here. Mainly as a reminder for me. But if someone else is happy about it, then I'm happy too... ;)
Relaxed Soaring at Lanzarote, Mala, 22. Jan 2024
After a long time we went to Lanzarote again, expecting some nice flights while escaping winter at home. But, due to lots of wind, i only had this one flight within one week.... Better luck next time..? ;)

My first flight at this site. It was great weather and although we all had additional obligations in the evening we made a short trip to Oberammergau to fly from Laber. I enjoyed it a lot. But the cameras both switched off rather early. No music this time, just a very short impression from the flight (Takeoff and immediately after).

Flying from Col Rodella (Dolomites), this time with my Insta 360 one R. Great possibilities for different views. BUT i am not happy with the stitching of the Insta360 cam/software. If you have hints how to improve the stitching they would be very much appreciated! 17 minutes of hell - Flex Hangglider didn't check wind gradient!
Переглядів 261 тис.2 роки тому
It was the first flight of the year that i did on my Wills Wing U2 flex wing hang glider together with a friend, an ATOS rigid wing pilot. We both missed checking the wind gradient that day (which was rather extreme) so it wasn't necessarily the flight we had expected... Since the ATOS pilot had a rather intense experience (ua-cam.com/video/jmnJWcTsa5I/v-deo.html) people were asking how the fle...

First time using my drogue chute (manufactured by Skyline Flight Gear, Germany) with my Wills Wing T2C 144 hang glider. There was no need for using the chute in this particular case of course. Just gently checking the effect of the chute (with moderate speed) in oder to practice. Next time i will try with higher speed so the effect will obviously increase a lot.

Hi. What tipe of wing are you flying. Thank you. Also magnificent
hi there, in this clip I am flying the Wills Wing U2 145 - really nice glider.... ;) Best, Ralf
schöner Ritt auf dem Bullen.
It is better to be on the ground wishing you were in the air than being in the air while wishing you were on the ground. This is my version - ua-cam.com/video/xUi-Jl5Tf8E/v-deo.html
I'm only here because I thought a killer whale was hang gliding in the thumbnail. 😂
I think if you were in a dive position you'd lose altitude more faster, but no one can design properly in difficult times.
tolles Video, Danke Ralf für's posten. Ist Col Rodella ein schwieriges Fluggebiet also nur für sehr gute Piloten, oder auch für den Durchschnitts-Piloten mit 20 Flügen im Jahr fliegbar?
Hell!? Naaa bro this is living! Lol
Yes it is....but not the kind i'd like to have every day... ;)
Very hard to hear your voice over the wind noise
Oh, i am sorry... :-/
Too much wind imo
Right! ;)
Thank goodness you were able to land safely!! ❤
Thank you! I was happy to be back on the ground...
its almost like your already in a body bag ready to go to the morgue
Not the way hang glider pilots view this... :P
Werner Herzog?
Guts we Germans are all a little bit Werner Herzog ;) :)
Is wernor herzog your father or do you purposely speak exactly the same?
Not that i know of (neither) ;)
Your voice sounds like if Werner Herzog would narrate the whole experience with a stoic mindset. :)
Looking back its always easy to be "stoic"
Dumb decisions have consequences. No sympathy, dumba$$
Nice to have Werner Herzog narrating this for us
Ya, narrating hang gliding videos is his true love it seems.... ;)
jö 🌬 a little bit of wind
Little bit.
Another great Werner Herzog documentary!
Everybody loves Werner Herzog (besides Kinski)
you should definitely turn the wind volume down until the live audio becomes important
Will try to do better it i release another video like this again!
Just a few days ago a friend of mine was killed while hang gliding. He was only 21. The devastation of his partner and family is heart-rending. We all need adventure in our lives, but for goodness sakes, be defensive and minimise the risks. Pushing the boundaries like this can end badly...
don't worry 1 or 2 weeks go by, its like they were never here happens all the time
@@robertcampbell5485 What a truly horrible statement. Everyone involved is devastated, as you'd expect. Have you nothing more constructive to do with your life?
I've had plenty of people I know die. I've found it to be the best way to look at it. No point to be devastated, one day soon your own life will come to an end. That's life @@tullochgorum6323
I am very sorry for your friend, all his friends and family. My deepest sympathy!
If its windy can you add extra weight to your body ??
or the handle bar
This only makes sense if the wing is big in relation to the weight of the pilot. But in my case the ratio is rather perfect. :)
I'm assuming that the reason you didn't turn around and go with the wind is because you would have no lift, and would be unable to glide to the ground, but fall?
Going with the wind would have been possible but there might be wind rotors behind the ridge and i don't know the area well. That's the reason i flew against the wind.
Looks thrilling!!
;)
So let me get this straight. all your weight multiplied by the force of the wind, turns and elevation, all rests upon two little lines and one V connector the size of a thimble. More over, only one connection at that, not even a secondary safety line for redundancy. why does this seem incredibly stupid to me.
Well the equipment can stand multiple g forces. And it is checked often!
@@flyguy-hanggliding still.. redundancy can't hurt.
Stick to knitting
Yeah, that's my other passion ;)
It's hard to feel bad for someone who straps themselves to a kite. They could've easily just not went gliding and avoided any sort of peril.
I feel bad for anyone who leaves the house. They could have hid in the basement and avoided any sort of danger and lived forever.
@@BadOompaloompa79 waking up causes cancer
@@jtompkins1277 damm, ok I'm staying in bed.
;)
Wow this is some two week old refrigerator pie 🥧🥧
Really...? Sorry...
When you think about it, that bag is a very thoughtful piece of equipment. It helps make sure the recovery crew have an easy cleanup when you're done.
hahaha lol!!!!
Still happy they didn't have to do a "cleanup" ;)
a hawk could try and not hang in the air like you did, id be concerned and angry at myself if i was in this situation, i love the ground lol
Taking of was a mistake indeed. But not as bad as you think ;)
Click bait. He events admits the title is misleading. Deceptive
That's your point of view. Compare this to my friend's video (linked in the description) and a "regular" flight. Then you will find out this is not "the usual flight"...
More like 17 minutes of boring commintator.....
:(
Good video! Although i would lower the audio of the video significantly, nobody is waiting for wind noises😅
When i release a video with music and the wind noises low they always ask for more wind noises... ;P
I’d say you are a highly skilled hang glider pilot. Nice job.
Thank you very much ;)
I didn’t know Werner Herzog narrated hang-gliding videos 😉
It seems to be Werner's true passion :P
What a stupid hobby
Wind gradient It is the rate of increase of wind strength with unit increase in height above ground level.
Right! And importance shouldn't be underestimated
Could you post a 360 degree video, similar to what I have posted here: ua-cam.com/video/sw74s2mstyg/v-deo.html
Wind is our enemy while we endure its allegiance.
Depends mainly on the level of "gustiness"...
Self inflicted
...and not proud of it!
The feet does stuff to my face
oops ;)
My father used to do this back in the 80s. I think he had a Hiway Demon. I was a kid back then but I have seen some crazy shit. Then in the early 90s all the paragliders started to appear an skies git congested...haha
Yeah i agree, definitely to many paraglides up there (not that day) ;)
You said you should have checked out the weather yourself, rather than taking your friend's word for it. How would you have known the wind gradient, what would have indicated the high gradient to you ?
Checking wind speed in different heights would have been the solution!
What a boring video.....
Thanks for the ride.
Welcome, thank you! :)
Cool. You got bunch of cameras, appreciate your hypnotizing pretentious tone, pretty cool man. Love and respect
Love and respect for your feedback. Most people only tell me i sound like Werner Herzog... :P
@@flyguy-hanggliding don't remember leaving comment lol. So unsure why I used the word "pretentious " but yes Werner Herzog. Lol. Yes yes
Your voice is so relaxed. But the tension in the video is high. Very comical relating your expert skills and confidence, but then recognizing that nature and wind are unpredictable. Great video with cool explanations, thanks
Thank you very much for your feedback! :)
he actually sounds like Giovanni Giorgio
:) Most people say it's more like Werner Herzog
So wind is over 16-17 m/s? Really? Amazing to gather that altitude without engines. Almost magical.
Yes would have been a pretty cool day with less gustiness (and gradient)
is there a reason he doesn't turn around and go with the wind?
Yes, there might be a rotor behind the ridge. Also i don't know the terrain back there very well (mostly trees back there)
Very interesting. Great video.
Thank you!
