Great performance of Steve Wiest's Grammy-nominated Besame Mucho with Wayne Bergeron's excellent account of recording it shortly before the Boss' death. Followed by Denis Diblasio's great composition "Dr. Fox" with hilarious "Dueling Maynard's" sandwiched in between!

Incredible solo performances throughout and Steve Wiest's explanation of how the tune got its name(s) is quite good, too!

This was toward the end of the second set at the Allen ISD Performing Arts Center in Allen, Texas, when Wayne and Denis joined the One O'Clock for the Tribute to Maynard Ferguson. Everybody was on fire for this one, but really enjoyed when Denis "surprised" Justin Pierce and had him bring a flute (borrowed from another sax player) to join him up front!

This was the first selection of Set 2 at the Allen ISD Performing Arts Center in Allen, Texas, when Wayne and Denis joined the One O'Clock for the Tribute to Maynard Ferguson.
I think my son and I attended this performance
Love Bergerons double Licc @06:14 ish
Sad that the original aggressor, the sax player, didn't seem to notice.
Denis is so cool.
Los mejores trompetistas del mundo

Has Denis DiBlasio ever worked with the New York Voices?
I don't know if it's just me but when Maynard played this song the audience reaction was strongly enthusiastic and even joyous, whether you were a trumpet player or not. When Wayne plays it the reaction is, well ok, that was nice, he was trying hard and did a reasonably good job. It's like watching someone who is just mechanically producing notes (Wayne) vs watching someone who is moving you musically (Maynard). I see a tremendous difference between the two players. One I want to hear more of the other I don't care if I hear any more of. One is a musician the other is not.
It’s just you! I’ll bet you can’t even hold a trumpet!
Wayne played with Maynard, and has been contracted by just as many if not more people. He's definitely a musician
I’m surprised they went to a rock beat at the tenor solo instead of the straight ahead jazz feel that was on the record.
I have a question what is that jazz songs name
still struggling to get fergie and phil harris out of my head, or am i the only one.
nice student band. kinda in teh squares but then its about the degree not beyond .
the trumpets here were so terrible wtf
Whoa, that Wayne sound!! He needed a better supporting cast for this one... and Maynard was directing?? haha
It’s a shame that they didn’t use the board audio for this and used the audio from the camera instead. Would have been great to hear the whole tenor solo, but all I could hear was drums for most of it
Everytime Wayne hears the WAA-WAA from the guitar: ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Q gayzao kkk
Insano
Insane
Not a lick of reverb on Wayne...Why??
Shame the recording mic is in the drone....
GOOD🎺👍❗️
wheres the rest of it like what gives
Great job. Someone in the trumpet section was having a bad day. A lot of clams for being in the One O'Clock.
enjoyed it until 515 and if the camera person got any closer to Wayne they would be engaged!
How to make Wayne Bergeron happy: Use a wah pedal
Excellent
The wah wah in the guitar brought a smile to everyone at 5:42
Why doesn't this have 10 million views?
Estados Unidos con un nivel musical enorme!
What song?
Check out the most recent live performance of Wayne on my channel!
One of the worst drummers I have heard in a long time: Terrible, loud and obnoxious especially during the saxophone solo we can barely hear because the drummer is so loudly obnoxious: I recommend he listens carefully to Jeff Hamilton for a lesson on drum DISCRETION....
I think the sound of the recording has something to do with how loud he seems.
Que barbaros excelentes músicos felicidades
The over compression of the audio in HORRIBLE!!!
Who's arrangement is this?
the drummer ruined the sax solo by playing over it. i played in big bands for 25 + years. i know what i am saying. full of divas and egos these bands always are.
Lmao @1:06 Aaron's just like "yeah! Music!"
these kind of bands are always full of prima donnas. the drummer sucked i agree.wayne was fantastic
that tenor 2 becomes lead alto in a couple years!
Every time I see this, that guy on second tenor sax that took a solo, pisses me off. Giving mean looking faces to Wayne when ever he's done playing.
Hugo Carreon my man!! those are not mean looks, those are looks of amazement and endearment!! Wayne is INCREDIBLE...gotta love him!
I'm sorry, but that drummer just completely ruined the arrangement. It sounded like any off-the-street Guitar Center drummer. Just sad to hear that at something of this level...
Nah, it was fine.
It was just because they used the audio from the onboard camera mic. The drums sounded way hot because the camera was directly over the drums.
If you want to hear a much better version of this song with Wayne Bergeron as the guest soloist, give a listen to him playing with the Wheeling HS Jazz Band at the Midwest Clinic in the Grand Ballroom of McCormick Place in Chicago. 1700 people crowded into a room with seating for 1000 to hear this band. The video itself is of poor quality, but the sound is great!!
E.Serdar Seremet
Why did the drummer play over the tenor during the solo?
It's what drummers do. :)
we can't hear the sound from his mic in this video. I'm sure it sounded fine out in front of the band.
Teddy Myers probably, I thought it was strange when everyone turned over to the drummer when the sac should have gotten the attention.
The conductor pointed at the drummer as if to give him a solo, but the tenor had his eyes closed. oh well haha
McFly why are you playing the sax? where is the doc?
this is proof that big bands are really finally dead playing this crap
you're an idiot
Sounded good, but man at most parts... TUNING!!! That shouldn't be an issue for players at this level.
+izzzDelta Every professional player has a couple of bad days.
izzzDelta tunning? sounded fine to me. Maybe your ears are out of tune. Never critique the legendary Wayne
Great playing Maynard would be proud. Talked with Wayne over email a few times. Very nice guy
UNT with Wayne does it better than Maynard's band in my honest opinion.
+Linebacker40_1 agreed. I had the opportunity one to hear Maynard play in Seattle with a bunch of UNT alums. While it was a thrill to hear Maynard perform his calisthenics in the stratosphere, it was the band that he assembled that was the real show. I could listen to these guys with Wayne up front all day long! Don't get me wrong, Maynard was a star in his own right, just think Wayne is much more versatile and actually more enjoyable to listen to. Just one person's opinion.
Well, did you hear Lynn Nicholson play on this tune?
Sooo honored to have him come to play with my high school jazz band this coming May along with Rusty Higgins.
