Why not attach a go-cart clutch to the driveshaft? Then you could use the outer bell of the clutch as a drive wheel for more traction, lower RPM , and possibly less risk of tire cutting/chafing. The biggest problem with this design is it powers the sidewall of the tire, where there is a lot less rubber and more potential for damage.

I already designed an old riding lawn mower with 4 forward speeds 1 rev. to go speeds in excess of 50MPH at the age of 15 yrs old, back in the 70's. and have Ideas to make a 10 speed bicycle with a 4 to 6 HP gas engine. for todays needs.

under a plastic cover around the carb area or at the base of the engine there is a govener by tweaking this u can get the engine to rev its nuts off lol thus making it fast like ours, to be honest the best type of engine to use is a strimmer or go kart engine with a centerafugal clutch so u can get dire t drive to the rear wheel via a chain, were in process of doing this but still havent found a engine yet.

@t77pug Okay, cause my lawn mower doesnt have a throttle. Will that make it not work? I want to be able to adjust speed, but the way the mower works, I think it can only be al the way fast or off. Is there a wa to change that?

basicly we made a frame under the mower engine and fixed the frame and engine to the rear of the bike just above the wheel, then we drove the rear wheel directly off of the spinndel on base of engine that normaly support blade on the mower,we then put a hindge on lower part of the frame so engine could be disingaged from the wheel when stopped like a clutch, we used a grib shift for throttle, 1 brake lever for the clutch and the other for a rear brake. front brake is a bit dodgy lol.

How do you make one of these. I got a 4.5hp and I need to make it on my bike.

:P i got a question. i read you cant use lawn mower motors because it utilizes a vertical shaft, and not the horizontal shaft needed to modify a bike. how'd u fix that?? thanks!

hey well we basicly took a engine from a mower, removed the blade and made a frame work up which holds the engine so that the hub which the blade is normally bolted to rubs directly on to the edge of the rear tyre creating a drive, we rigged a throttle through the grib shift which origainaly worked the bikes gears, the only prob with our design is theres no clutch so when you stop the engine stops, this was purley made for a laugh and were planning on trying to make a mk2 lol :)

make a tutorial for us! this would be fun to ride, but got no idea how u guys did that.
