    Hi Fr. Larry. I recommend for your intros to match the meditation, this provides perfect looping or re-watching for sleep and rest. Your intros should be included in the meditation in the same relaxing voice and music so it's not so jarring. :) Thank you and I hope to see more mediation videos in the future with more soothing intros. lol thank you. God bless ya!

    Thank-you Father. Love your videos. I had watched a video by Fr Gregory Pine where he said we cannot wound (offend) God, which I found confusing since we say in the Act of Contrition, "O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended Thee." So I found your explanation of the Latin root of offend very helpful. But now wondering, if we do not offend (standard usage) God does it follow that we cannot please Him either? In other words, since God already loves us at a God level, how could we possibly increase that? Our small attempts at doing good are not pleasing?

    • @fr.larryyoung4222
      @fr.larryyoung4222 Місяць тому

      Something pleasing has more to do with pleasure, which is something we typically associate with bodily creatures that have sensible and emotional appetites. We speak anthropomorphically in this way about God in the Scriptures, "God is at work in you, both to will and to work in you, for his good pleasure" (Phil 2:13). However, God does not have sensible or emotional appetites, which are properties of bodily creatures. He does however have intellective appetites, which we also have. Our intellective appetite is another way of referring to our will. God has a will or intellective appetite for the Good. Of course God himself is the perfection of Goodness. He is Goodness itself. When his creatures reflect his infinite goodness he does not find pleasure in it, but something more profound, joy and delight. St. Thomas Aquinas states that God, "God takes joy in every good... God properly delights in himself, but he takes delight both in himself and in other things" (SCG, 90)

      Get the big green one with the index off Amazon or Ignatius Press. Hard back. Go all in. Get Ya some highlighters and mark that thing up! That is my recommendation. Highlighting, underlining and making notations gives you a sense of ownership of your Bible or Catechism. They enhance memory and give the text a certain topography.

      Do you have any suggestions of commentaries or other resources to exegete this passage?

    • @fr.larryyoung4222
      @fr.larryyoung4222 2 місяці тому

      @@jowardseph I recommend using the interlinear feature on Biblehub to analyze the original language of Hebrew. That could lead you to make connections to other passages within Joel and elsewhere in the Bible through common language, imagery, places names, etc. Use the Parallel feature on Biblehub as well to connect each verse with as many other texts as possible. Gather as many chain references you can. For example, I would go deep into the word 'restore' in verse 1. 'Restoring the fortunes' is a common phrase in the Psalms and prophets. What does it mean? If you can find out how the Septuagint and Vulgate translate that word or any other word you choose to press into that could be extremely beneficial as well because it could lead to New Testament connections. I use Verbum for access to the LXX and Vg. Utilize the commentaries on Biblehub. Not sure if you are Catholic or not. Biblehub is Protestant, but if you are Catholic they are still of tremendous value. There is some 'popish' and 'romish' bashing in some of them, but I just ignore that. I love their passion for the Word of God and their seriousness about studying it. If you are serious about in depth Scripture study I would say it is unavoidable that you will supplement your Catholic resources with Protestant ones as well. This requires solid formation in the faith in order to exercise discernment. There is a lot in that passage! You will need a good historical grasp of the context. I would be interested in how the Old and New Testaments are woven together here. There is rich history here, but perhaps it also reaches all the way out to the eschaton?

    One thing I find interesting is that Samson's strength comes from the Nazarite symbol of faith (his hair). However, it could be surmised that because his heart was changed that became the true testimony of faith. Similar to how we've been called to circumsize our hearts.
