what's the cost of each tank in the RAS system?
These were imported from China. The cost is going to be in another video.
@@RuralAquacultureDevelopment thanks,
No problem!
how does a chicken looks after feeding only bsf for 2-4 months??
Thanks for the comment! We wouldn't know as we haven't done this ourselves. But as part of a balanced diet, chickens do really well with BSF.
Do they put any liner or they only rely on clay soil?
Thanks for the comment. We don't need liner, as we have clay soils. But it depends on where you are.
@@RuralAquacultureDevelopment Thanks... Appreciated 🙏
Happy to help!
I have some tilapia fingerlings in a small caged meshed section in my pond in order to eed them properly. At what age? Or at what month should I remove the surrounding mesh and let the tilapia swim in the entire pond?
We would recommend that you wait until they are at 10g. Good luck and thanks for the support!
Maybe i didn't catch it, but what kind of waste do you use to feed the BSF?
Hello, thanks for the question. We use a mixture of chicken manure, vegetable and fruit waste and green waste. Whatever we can access.
@RuralAquacultureDevelopment thanks for the feedback, much appreciated
No problem!
Thank you 😊
Our pleasure!
this is so awesome, you guys are doing great work and mother nature will reward you kindly 🤟🍀
Thanks very much for the encouragement! This is why we post, to help and support others.

Good day…I want to dig a 2 acre pond 70 meters by 140 meters. My plan is to put 100,000 tilapia. Will this work out and what will the approximate survival rate on the Tilapia. Please advise. Thank you….
Hi there thanks for the question. That is a very high number. You should aim for 4 tilapia per metre. Otherwise fish will suffocate.
Nice! What is price of per acre of pond there?
It varies wildly! These ponds are part of our partnership with North Kigesi Diocese. Thanks for the question.
What is the holding capacity of those ponds? thank you for your updates, very inspiring
Thanks for the support? That particular pond is 20x30meters. So 600metres total, we stock at 4 tilapia per m. So 2400 total
@@RuralAquacultureDevelopment thanks, you're inspiring a lot of people to join aquaculture in the simplest ways possible. love from Rwanda
That's very kind. We hope to do a hub in Rwanda!
Good job! I've been following your channel since two months ago.
Thanks very much for the support. We have made some big changes in the last few months and we are very grateful you are supporting for all these months. It makes it worth us posting online 💗
Good work Tim!
Thanks Philip we appreciate your long time support of RAD.
How did you make a pond without pond filter? Water isn't constantly draining into the surrounding areas?
Our soils hold water which is good. We do have sacks and a liner on the downward facing side of the bank. Thanks for the question and the support!
Understood. How do I invest in a tilapia farm ther?
Hello! You could send us an email and we could discuss?
What's your email?
Good.
Thanks for the support!
Great Stuff
Thanks for the support!
9000 fingerlings in one pond wow, what is the dimension of thay pond?
It was a very big pond!
Hello,do you provide Free Pond construction services?
Hello! Normally we can do a free first site visit depending on where you are located.
This is great news..I'm a new subscriber from Uganda as well ..thx for the good work you guys are doing
Thanks for the encouragement! Your support is very much appreciated.
This seems like a LOT OF WORK for fish feed. Is the cost and labor investment really worth the output. Or, are there better/cheaper/easier feeds available. Also, if you are going to stick with BSF production, wouldn't it be better to start a large scale harvesting collective, and then spread out the fish feed over a number of different fish farms. Just a few random thoughts. Love your work. Press on regardless.
Hi there! Some good points well made. It's a lot of work, but the cost of feed is so high that it's worth it. We harvest pupae for our own farm and then sell 5DOL to other farmers who need less maggots as they have smaller ponds.
Thanks very much for supporting us. Much appreciated
Thanks for the Great work,i have a wetland land in Kampala and my goal is to do Fish farming,Do You provide any assistance please
We can discuss it, do send us an email!

Haha
I love This Project you will share with us The Cost.
Hi no problem glad we can share the details and it is useful
@RuralAquacultureDevelopment Thanks
Happy to help
how much gram of eggs do you harvest from one lovecage?? and how much of them do you have
Hello! We have three love cages at the moment. It depends on how many flies you get in there. 1 breeding pair can produce a clutch of up to 2500eggs
Which country is this?
Hey. thanks for the question. This is Uganda
Thanks
No problem
Hlo sir, please can i vist you for studying 📖 more ideas about BSF
Hi there. sure thing, send us an email!
do you feed larvae or pupa to the chickens?
You want to feed larvae. The pupae have started to turn into chitin which is not easily digestible.
This was helpful to bring reality home: that BSFs are not magic, and are best suited for specific applications.
What cost effective ingredients do you use to feed the BSF Larvae?
We use a mixture of chicken manure, vegetable waste and anything else organic.
@@RuralAquacultureDevelopment that's really helpful thankyou very much
Great stuff
Thanks for the support
Hello, I started a catfish and Tilapia fish project in Western Uganda
Very good! Which district?
Please share your contacts 🙏
Hello you can reach us at ruralaquaculturedevelopment@gmail.com
Where is this project undertaking?
We are based in Uganda! Thanks for the support
Learnt quite alot
Please elaborate on 'the strings going across the pond' 😢. I'm in Uganda and birds seem to be a challenge
The strings stop the birds being able to get to the the fish. It's a deterrent. Birds can be an issue!
BSF is the way to go
It certainly has it's place!
Grt work am doing on my farm already in Uganda
Thanks for the comment. Appreciate your support. I hope you do well in Uganda at your farm.
Thanks for all the good work you are doing in Uganda
It is our pleasure!
So you feed the fish the pupa ?
Yes we do! The protein in the BSF is why we feed them to our fish.
Thanks for sharing. How much of the BSF Larvae do you mix with other feed sources like maize to make 100kg feed formulation for local chicken
Hi, it depends entirely on what you want to feed your chickens. But we focus on fish and do a higher proportion of BSFL
Great content ❤
Thanks for the support!
How do you get young fish for farming
Hello! We breed our own fish from the hatchery.
@@RuralAquacultureDevelopmentyour location will matter my need for you
This is very nice but how do you preserve it
We feed the BSF live, so no need to preserve them.
Frozen , dried, or ground then frozen
Neither! They go in live.
Aren't those biopods way too deep?
The BSF can be in 30cm deep of substrate. Thanks for the comment.
Well done Tim and Pawson. Great news!
Thanks for your support!
Woow! Great News Tim!!
I know it's very exciting!!
That facility is underutilized, if properly used , it can generate 100kg per day. Popular the greenhouse with flies and bring in like a dozen attractant bowls and 12 dozens of eggies raps and be ready to provide about 150kg of organic waste to feed the hatched larvae
Hi there! I agree the potential is huge, we are working on scaling as we mentioned in the video. Thanks for the support and we will keep you updated.
Oh what a pretty little momma, I think I would have needed to take her home with me (and the pups too lol)
I did take them home and they were wonderful to have with us!
