Jackson JS32-7 Upgrade Pt1
Forgot to upload this before moving, then life got crazy and lots of issues along the way.
My main recording and editing computer is shot, so that means actually cooler grading or putting together playthroughs are basically a no go. Currently uploading from my 2012 laptop, which will likely be my production computer until I can repair or replace the downed desktop.
Another downside to this is that the play through and sound examples are currently locked on the desktop lol..... it's never easy, but I love the JS32-7.
Already working on getting going on phase 2 of the upgrades, but more on that to come.

My first 7 string/extended range guitar. Love how it feels and sounds, hate how much effort it takes to get there. I'm letting you in on the back story, positives and negatives to a wonderful guitar. Spoiler Alert: I sold it.

A quick play through and tone demo of the Fortin 33 pedal. 3 times the file for talking points was corrupted and I'm having issues with my video card not keeping up with the video editing, so I've dropped that and just putting out the play through and demo. Many frustrating nights spent trying to fix it or re-record, or re-edit. Just gotta drop the negativity and put it out, I can continue my c...

Hey Peeps Filmed over the course of a month, and planned for even more, so you'll see a slight change in setup and lighting. Output on the mic was too high, and the gate was too aggressive so sound either didn't come through, or it clipped. Will work on it for the next one. Also, I will try to get my camera to focus for a full video at some point, I swear...... Any way, watch me ramble for 10 m...

    Hey, great video. I'm curious, is it possible to put a pick guard on this guitar? Also, why did you swap out the pick-ups? Thanks

    • @ExtremeMetalMike
      @ExtremeMetalMike 7 місяців тому

      Pickguard is possible, would likely need to buy from a 3rd party, like Warmoth(?), to make it work. Personally I loved the look of the top and didn't want to change the aesthetic or put holes in it. For the pickups, the stock ones are fine but I never REALLY got along with them. Plus I wanted to try out the Titan bridge, which absolutely rips (currently in my Jackson 7 also).

    I Think the first 5 way switch that you used is a regular lo profile switch designed for SSS or SSH configuration. That will not work for HH configuration you should have use 2502N 5 way switch designed & used by Ibanez HH guitars.

      That's a very good point! didn't do as much research into the switch type as I have had fewer issues with them than with pots in import guitars. Something to remember for the next time. Thanks for the input!

      Sweet one last question, what wire did you use and where did you ground to because mine right now buzzes so much. Cant wait till part 2 :)

    • @ExtremeMetalMike
      @ExtremeMetalMike Рік тому

      @@riggswebb-ri2gr Any 22 gauge wire should do, like this (www.amazon.ca/BNTECHGO-Silicone-Flexible-Strands-Stranded/dp/B07HGT44XY/ref=sr_1_54?keywords=22%2Bgauge%2Bwire&qid=1681271490&refinements=p_85%3A5690392011&rnid=5690384011&rps=1&sprefix=22%2Bgau%2Caps%2C246&sr=8-54&th=1). As for buzz, gotta make sure the bridge gets grounded along side the pickups. Part 2 probably won't be out for a while as the comp is straight shot and I need to prioritize family and work (in that order) before getting all set up with filming again. It's a really fun hobby and I love the feeling of completing a video, but it can't take precedent over responsibilities.

    I've been looking at those recently. They are hard to find. I would try out different pickups in it. If the craftsmanship is good, then pickups might be the cure. I understand about not bonding with a guitar. I bought a PRS Silver Sky SE because everyone was raving about the great deal they are. I'm having trouble finding reasons to play it. I'd like to pick up a guitar like that Artisan though.

    • @ExtremeMetalMike
      @ExtremeMetalMike Рік тому

      Ya, the Artisan is long gone. I considered it but for some reason I couldn't pull myself to swap the pickups. Having some more time to think about it, I think it's a combo of the pickups, the weight of the guitars and the neck shape. But again, lots of people LOVE the Artisans, it just wasn't for me. If you have a chance to try one out, I suggest jumping on it to make your own judgment on them 😀

    Nice video! I recently bought one of these and hope to take on a similar project. Do you plan on uploading a part 2 to this eventually? I'd love to hear your thoughts on tuners and bridge options. I think as far as electronics go, I'm gonna go with Dimarzio Dreamcatcher and Rainmaker pups and a push-push (push-pulls aren't for me) coil split tone pot if they make a good 18mm one. Selector switch works really well on mine but we'll see how long it lasts. Maybe some Hipshot locking tuners and GraphTech string saver saddles. Hope to see your finished project soon and maybe hear some sound samples! Rock on 🤘🏻

    • @ExtremeMetalMike
      @ExtremeMetalMike Рік тому

      Hey Alex, still struggling with the computer situation and work has ramped up so even if I had a new computer, I don't have the time right now to any filming/editing/etc. On the bridge/tuners. The hipshot bridge dropped in seamlessly. I went with the .175 option but am curious if the .125 would have been better/more comfortable. Tuners are Gotohs as the drop right in, but I have hipsots on like 3 other guitars right now so either avenue works. I will say be caution about the push-push pot. The control cavity is not very deep, one of the reasons you need a low profile/import switch. Best of luck on your journey!! And I hope to get all of that in a video sooner than later.

      Unfortunately all that footage and audio is still stuck on my main computer which has a revolving blue screen of death. This footage was shot and edited 8 month ago, so I figured why not just release it. The long-short of it is the Wilkinsons were definitely an improvement over the stock pickups. Smoothed out the top end so it wasn't as harsh and opened up the frequency range. Downsides is that the baseplate needed modification and the sound was pretty compressed. But more on that whenever I get around to filming pt. 2 🙂

    Did you ever try the original Godin twin coils? The Duncans are nice, but imho the internal E.Q. system matches best with the original pick-ups. Although the pick-ups look the same, the bridge pick-up has a higher (mid-boosted) output.
