Henry McKenna 10 - Bottled in Bond Bourbon Whiskey
rebel 100 is not the best example of a wheated bourbon. I much prefer Larceny small batch over this. Larceny is sweeter and softer on the palate. this is too harsh for a wheated bourbon.
I love peat and get down with Octonore often. But this is the worst whisky I’ve ever had. Offensive. Do not buy.
Wish it was more available, even mine local stores will stock it, but jacob weldon has been having problems with distributors. Even though its made in my town.
Thanks gentlemen. I appreciate your review.
Just picked one up in Orlando tonight, looking forward to trying this!
How much this price
One my favorites this Glenlivet can't beat the price.
I love the Famous Grouse Smoky Black and Johnnie Walker Black. JWB is a little more refined because of the age statement, but the smokes are different. JWB is more of a highland style smoke (funny because that’s more of a cigarette kind of smoke that you described for FGSB) whereas the style of smoke you get from FG Smoky Black leans towards the more iodine, campfire, ashy Islay smoke.
Love it
enjoyed the review - thanks gents.
agree great stuff
I picked this up yesterday for about $23 and am not disappointed. I rather like it. Definitely will buy again.
I just bought a bottle on a whim (it was $19.99 and I’m Scots, couldn’t pass it up) got home and tried a splash. This is a Scotch. If you ordered an Irish and got this you would be confused. I’m not sure how much it typically costs but I’m heading back to get a few more bottles.
Great tasting, nice show! Thanks for that!
I met one of the Burnt Church marketing reps at a beverage store in the metro Atlanta area. She told me that Anita’s Choice is aged in smaller than usual burnt barrels in South Carolina. South Carolina experiences broader temperature changes from season to season thank Kentucky does so the wood expands and contracts more during the year. As a result the liquid touches more of the barrel in a shorted period of time. That’s how you get that taste and color in just 2 years. I really enjoy the taste as well. I agree with that 5 rating.
I bought a store pick of Laws on a trip to texas. Its spicy and i feel like its unbalanced. I need to revisit it. As I remember, Not my fav.
I just found this one today. I do love the Bourye concept; HW does a great Bourye, and love that one. But now i’m doing the typical “lets look up reviews for the bottle I just bought.” Ill try a pour of it tomorrow.
I dig this review! Cheers fellas
Just picked this up as a store pick here in my small town of TN. (Although, my proof is slightly higher). I agree with your review., tasting notes, etc. I definitely like it. Thanks for the review.
Such a good whiskey! Glad you were able to find one to enjoy as well.
Guys, their 18 yrs. expression is in a word-- absolute complex flavor 💣 bomb! Cheers 🥂 from ETn Smoky Mtns---
That and their cask strength are our favorites. Soooo good! Cheers!
@@aspiritedendeavor1840 We have excellent taste! ( don't we?) Can never go wrong w/ barrel proof--
Nice video gents
Thanks!
Good review, thanks. I just got a bottle of the twin Oak today. Was wondering what you thought of it. It's bottle 242 from barrel 50. I recently opened a bottle of Woodford Reserve Double Oaked and love it. Wanted to try the Jefferson's. About to pop it open.
Thanks for swinging by! It's funny, we were fairly new in our bourbon journey (coming from Scotch) when we filmed this one. We plan on revisiting a lot of these in the near future since our tastes (and love of bourbon) have changed quite a bit. If I remember correctly, this is the only Jefferson's that we've checked out so far. I think we might have to rectify that. Hope you enjoy your bottle!
Strange that they went out of business.
Unfortunately it's been a common occurrence over the years. There is a lot of overhead when it comes to producing whiskey and there's little profit until the product has finished aging. This is why so many newer distilleries source whiskey from others or produce un-aged sprits such as vodka while their primary line ages in the background. The legal side of things has also been a bit of a nightmare.
A lot of folks blast this whisky for all kinds of aficionado highbrow reasons, but to me this is one of the favorites. I get a sense of smoke in the nose, without any of the unpleasant medicinal notes that you get in Islays. Would buy if the price was around $/€ 70. For 100+ I would rather get me a Kavalan Solist Ex-Bourbon cask.
Just got a bottle of this. Looking forward to trying it. Hope all is well!
Jefferson’s is still way underrated imo
Nice review, thx. I'm planning a 'NY whiskies' tasting and considering it. I've had their Solera bourbon a cpl times and have not loved it. Have you guys tried their Dbl Cask Rye? Unfortunate their stuff is so expensive. Thx, cheers!
just tasted it: i like it a lot, very unique, need a good cigar for my next sip
It really is unique and pairs well with a cigar. If you get a chance, you'd probably enjoy Burns Night from ASW as well. Related to Tire Fire but with a bit of a spin.
Smoky Black is one of the worst whiskies I ever had. However, the bourbon cask finish from Famous Grouse cask series is really good.
Yeah, we were not impressed with it either. Shame considering how good some of their other whiskies are.
'Promosm'
I feel like this is the same guy just different weights 🤔
I haven't tried their bourbon, but I love their finished Ryes. Cheers! Great review 🥃
Given how much we enjoyed this, their ryes must be amazing. Thanks for stopping by!
Trying to find more information on this whiskey and found you all. Thank you very much for this video and good luck to you all! Subscribed!
Awesome, glad we could help out! Thanks for the comment and subscription!
That a little steep for KO. Here in GA I've found it for $120. Even that seems high. I got ours from Flaviar (an online whiskey club) for $90. I felt that was reasonable and worth it at that price point. Good luck in your hunting!
I saw an offering of Kentucky Owl on Friday that was $375, not sure which one, but definitely out of my budget range. Our local grocery also has one for $170, again not sure which version. I have heard Kentucky Owl is really good so maybe someday. I picked up a Middle West sherry finish 97.25 proof which was priced at $95, actually slightly below retail, and I made the right decision because it's delicious. Cheers you two!
These are 2 amazing bottles. I just bought both of these this week, which is how I came across your video. To clarify things, these are 2 different mash bills, SB055uses a roasted malt, SB091 does not. I looked into is AFTER I tasted them, since the SB055 was so different from any other bourbon I have ever had, I wanted to see if I could figure out why, and the toasted malt must be the answer! Cheers, and I'll give you a like and a follow!
Ah, we missed that! It certainly explains the differences we found between them. We've experienced their toasted malt in their other offerings and absolutely loved them. Still one of the best bang for the buck whiskies in our opinion. Thanks for the like and follow!
Thanks for the review guys! We always enjoy having yall stop by!
We enjoyed our visit! We'll see you again
Interesting whiskey and love seeing the tasting room, it looked gorgeous. If I’m ever in Georgia…Cheers gents 🥃🤩
If you ever find yourself out this way, let us know. We'll hit the Georgia whiskey trail! Not sure if GA has a whiskey trail, but if not, we'll forge one. Cheers!!
@@MarkAberdeen_author perfect !
Honestly, I have not had a bad Georgia bourbon yet. Both 13th colony and moonrise are very good.
You both Mmmed at the same time after that first sip. 😊
🤣 I think this one surprised both of us!
"That's right. All right. That's right. All right"
I've heard its almost as good,if not better than the El D 12....🤔🥃
We've not tried the 12year to compare, but for whiskey guys coming at rum, it was a fantastic change-up. Cheers, Ian!
Puncher's Chance is a decent whiskey if you can get it for under 25 dollars, but it's literally punching above it's weight class at over the 30 dollar mark, since, it's young and most bottles are at 45% alcohol and nowhere near 100 proof. If you can purchase it at a discount, then it can beat the regular bourbons such as Jim Beam, Jack Daniels, and Evan Williams. I can't comment on the bottles that are over 100 proof, because I haven't seen any in my region.
Unfortunately with prices generally increasing, it becomes difficult to justify the purchase price of quite a few whiskies. We've notice this primarily with Scotch but it's happening with bourbon as well.
@@aspiritedendeavor1840 I agree, /scotch has definitely risen in price. The Glenlivet 12 was under 40 bucks and it's approaching 60 in my region, and many scotch brands are advertising their blends either with no age statement or are not mentioning it, especially the Speyside brands.
I agree guys everything you want out of a whiskey and I too rate it 11/10 🥃 Great episode gents 🤘🏽
Thanks! Laws really out did themselves with this one!
was that a spy plane in the middle of the video?
This is probably the best taste for price I've tried, tons of flavor, yet very smooth
I agree, it's a solid whisky for the price. I still enjoy going back to this one now and then.
I have to disagree on the red vs black notes, I found the red to be almost undrinkable but really quite like the black label and double black. I think this leads to brand association issues, i.e. if someone tries the Red label as their introduction, they may tend to think all Johnnie Walker tastes like that. I intend to get the green soon, after finishing some irish whiskies I got on sale.
I usually prefer anything over the red label myself but I'm not much a JW fan outside of the green label. That said, taste is a very subjective thing. The Whiskey Tribe just did a blind tasting of the full line of JW products and much to my surprise, the red beat both versions of the black.
Starlight does a lot of fantastic finishing, I have the triple sec bourbon on the way. Thought the Parker’s Heritage orange Curaçao was too much orange. Can’t wait to try this one.
Surprisingly well balanced. Really enjoyed this one!
This has become my daily drinker. $18.99 in my city.
It's hard to beat, especially for the price.
Same! I prefer this over alot of bourbon twice the price.
We appreciate the review! Way to hang in there guys! It's not for everybody, but it's loved by many! 😋😏😃
Definitely outside our comfort zone but so much fun! 😁 Thanks for stopping by!
