Ride led by Nelson in the Forest around Jarrahdale & Mundaring WA. You can have a drinking game around the number of times I mention the dust, it was bad. This was the first use for my new GoPro 10 so I am getting used to it and the editing software. Hopefully the content will start to get a little better with more practice.

My first video attempt featuring my recently purchased KTM 690 and the mods I have fitted to make this an all roads or trails Adventure bike.
You mean acoustic pleasure 😂 Nice and useful review, especially since I am tall myself. Still doubting to spend the money though… I can recommend the Rade Garage lowered rally footrests too! Makes it so much more comfortable.
Great video. I'm glad you got out of your comfort zone in the sand, it's the only way to imorive and learn what the bike can do. I'm hoping to buy a 1099R in a month or so, so thanks.
What's that arm mount that your Doubletake mirrors are attached to?
They are just generic cheap mirror extensions from Ali Express.
Nice video mate, put the Rade tower on my 23 890 R, agree fully on some holes being too large for the rubber nuts, PITA to be honest. The indictors wires direcions are bit naff, could have done that better for sure but all in all a really great tower with a lifetime guarantee even if you crash...cant go wrong.
Thanks for the video
Great review! Cheers from Italy :)
Question, been looking at the dominator exhaust too, do you have their hard db killer insert? Or regular quiet insert? Volume would def be an issue for me. Looking to alleviate the heat mainly.
Go for the quiet insert as even that was still too loud for my taste. I ended up going to the local hardware store and bought a 20mm (or maybe 25mm) copper pipe end cap and riveted it to the bottom end of the db killer to quieten it further and it made a difference without affecting performance.
Great video mate, can I ask where you got the cruise control and heated grips from? Thanks
3 seconds into your video and I’m guessing you’re wearing alpine star tech 7s
I do have AS Tech 7s for enduro riding but on this day I was wearing Sidi Adventure 2 boots, the best ADV boots I have owned.
I’ve got cruise control on mine, but I really don’t need it. I’m not on the pavement much. I might take it off.
Hard to beat for the price 2nd hand, probably hard to find one here in NZ that hasn't been rallied (if I had one I would lol) and why tf did KTM give it a crash bar that only goes halfway up the bike? I mean it looks ridiculous don't get me wrong if you like dirt bikey looking bikes they dont get any better than this but id deffo be investing in the after market crash bar that looks like how KTM should have provider in the first place. Great vid and great track, you're lucky to have that to go to ride on. Cheers mate
Thanks, yeah I understand your comments but other than aesthetics, you don't really need more scaffolding. The stock crash bars are to protect the low slung tanks, hence why they are only covering the lower half. I tipped the bike over a few times and it always landed on the standard crash bar and handlebars (with Barkbusters) and no damage to the bike. They do the job and don't add much bulk or weight to the bike.
I have a 1090 also I was wondering if you could tell me what cruse control are you using?
Sorry for the late reply. It is the MCCruise system out of Australia.
i wish i could find a video of somebody completly removinf the abs system.
The ABS is very good and removing it would make the bike illegal in most countries and render your insurance at risk. If you just put a couple of spring washers between the rear ABS sensor and the brake caliper hanger to move it a few mm away from the ABS ring, you will permanently switch off the ABS front and rear without modifying your bike.
I had the same ABS switch problem with my 2020 diagnosed not by dealer but KTM Austria and like you only other issue in 15,000 miles as been the side stand switch. I brought the Power Parts seat which is alot better than standard and relatively cheap and as been one of my best buys
Re the sidestand switch, I fitted the dongle but you must be aware that the sidestand is difficult to swing back due to the spring and design of it. Twice in one ride, both my friend and I thought we had raised the sidestand and took off. Luckily we realised early on and stopped, but you could easily take off in a straight road and get up to speed with it down.
I totally agree it is a risk and had done it myself. I was happy to accept that risk but the safest approach would be to stick with the stock sensor and carry the dongle with your spares in case of emergency. It is a tooless fix and easy to do on the trails.
Thanks for the great vlog! Are those the original handlebars, as they seem pretty tall? 🙂👍
They are the the Pro Taper EVO Adventure bars, comfortable for a taller rider.
Do you have a link for the windscreen?
Its a Piug screen for a 690, I got it off ebay.
Thanks for posting. Had a 2009 690r and recently bought a 2023 690r. Love the bike. Perfect for my adventure day trips. Had a nice 890r but it was too heavy for stuff I was trying to ride so the 690r is the answer for me.
I ride a Norden 901 and an really itching for a KTM 690 Enduro R or the 701 Enduro. I've managed to take it on some gnarly single track but I was absolutely bushed, especially in the Texas summer heat. As someone who owned both what was the most noticeable trade-off between the two?
Thanks. What model are the heated grips?
the grips are by Komine EK-300 12V Heated Grips DX - Controller Built-in from Zarkie in Australia.
Thanks for the review. Have you noticed if your oil light stays on longer than a few seconds upon start up? In particular when the engine is hot. This seems to be a common issue with the LC4 motors?
I had this issue at the start of Summer in slow traffic or tight trails. I had recently done an oil change however it hadn't had a coolant change since I bought the bike. As it had done 20,000 kms, it was due so I drained, then flushed the radiator with distilled (demineralised) water and put in fresh quality coolant and hey presto, no more issue since. The radiator flush and fill was super easy. Another simple and accessible maintenance task courtesy of the KTM engineers. Many other bike manufacturers could take a leaf from their book on owner serviceability.
Have you sold the 690
Yes, just sold it.
@@ride4adventure i have a 2022 690 and at the moment in a dilemma do i drop more money on mods like the lynx fairing, or just sell it and buy a KTM 890R i do 50/50 riding whats was your reason for selling your 690
If you are doing more than 50% road riding and you like riding fast and far on the road, then go the 890. Otherwise stick with the 690. I wouldn't bother with the Lynx fairing, I had it and went back to the stock headlight mast with a screen as it is lighter steering and has a better dual sport feel. If you keep the 690 and want more protection then go the full Rally style kit like from Rebel X or Rade Garage. Its expensive but its makes the 690 a proper looking adventure bike.
Nice vid, completely agree, if you know what you want this bike is hard to beat, for the slight additional weight over the Tenere 700 it has 50 more horsepower.
How do you fill the rear tank with that large tank bag over the filler cap?
The bag is held on with clips so it is quick to remove it but on all 690/701 bikes any rear bag has to be moved or removed to access the main tank for fueling. The range is +250km so it is not too bad, most day rides are around that. With the extra tank the range is 350-400km depending how you ride so usually a full day.
@@ride4adventure Thanks, the reason that I asked was that I have a new Gas Gas 700 and installed a chinese Perun knock off rack. I then mounted a plate to that with a bolt in the middle which enabled the bag to swivel and allowed access to the fuel cap.
Hi, very nice vids. I've seen your 690 Enduro R, and I've been looking for the fly screen, but I haven't found information, could you tell me the brand or where can I find it?? Thks!!!!
I am currently running the Givi screen for the standard fairing. I the videos where you see the instruments and phone GPS, I was running the Lynx fairing from Britannia Composites out of Canada.
Hi, can anyone tag along for the ride or can I join your group? Thanks

Does the rade garage kit requires remap?
No, just install & ride 👍
Nice set up, can you share more info on the front tower, screen set up, is it completely custom built or can i pick it up off the shelf?
Nice video Frank. Love the comments in the sandy tracks
Hi there. Fingers crossed you still check comments from here! Just wondering what air filter set up you use? I purchased my 690 2nd hand and they butchered the intake when they fitted the aux tank. Cheers 👍
Hi Andrew, the filter is a twin air foam filter on the small air filter box that comes as part of the auxilary tank kit. You should be able to order them from most bike shops I ordered a spare from my local shop) but here is the original www.radegarage.com/parts/foamfilter/. If you just want to get the mini airfilter box as a seperate kit to the tank, you will need to contact Rade Garage direct I think.
I have done quite a number of new mods to make it more touring capable. I will post a new video of the updates when my new camera arrives. Unfortunately the old one has had issues for a while making my crappy vids even more crappy 😉 I hope to post more new content soon.
Love the “windsock” comment 😂 I’m 194 cm so I understand haha
I have the Husqvarna 701 version, I’ve been looking at those under seat tanks but I’ve heard of so many problems with them I’m not sure. Noise, reduced power, bad venting and fuel boiling issues. (Seat just resting on the tank? Really?) Air cleaner is much smaller then stock also. Have you noticed any of these problems? I really need extra fuel.
Hi BDADV, I have had none of the issues described. Noise, man there are so many other noises, how would you know? Reduced Power, I don't know how that might be but the air filter is more direct to the injection system so less distance compensates for smaller air filter however the intake stack is still the same size so I don't see an issue. No venting or fuel boiling issues but then I do have a proper filler cap breather thatworks and heat shield to the bottom of the tank. I suggest the issues might be from improper fitting or shortcuts. The only non standard fitting I did was to reuse the seat brackets so the seat didn't rest on the tank. I filed down the edges just enough to fit alongside the tank and sit support the seat stops. I also added some foam to the edge to ptotect the tank and used a longer bolt for the shared nut for the tank and original seat bracket.
Thanks, good to hear. I’ll start shopping for one.
What a beatufiul bike! I am tempted to go for one myself. I would definitely need same mods for the freeway. Cheers! 👍
oh you need much more. There is bunch of things wrong with 690 from factory. Stock fuel pump is crap and rear brake leaver as well. clutch needs modding in 2016 model. In this one probably too. licence place holder will fail so needs deleting. bunch of bolts need replacing or deleting. list is long. but when you go and do those its a good bike. Also this seat mod wont hold. Plastic underneath it will fail pretty soon.
Yeah nice no bull shit Review from an experienced rider. Good work
Cheer for that 👍
Hello, my new friend. Wow, that's a great 💚❤💞 motorcycle video. It's an honor to be your great channel friend 💘💗💖 Have a happy 🌷💚❤ day 👍👍👍🤙🤙🤙👌
Hi, Great Mods....Did you place heavier springs on the front or rear shocks ? Just looking at one of these 690 and similar Sasquatch size - lol Cheers Mate.
Sorry for the missed reply. The front forks were good, no issue for me. I did replace the rear spring with a beefier one and added an Xtrig preload adjuster.
That fairing looks really nice, one of the first things I changed was the grips to thicker ones, made a big difference for me.
I've put Pro Taper pillow tops on my EXC-F 350 and it makes some difference to the vibes. 👍
@@youraveragerider6684 I use Progrip 714, works wonders, anything is better than the thin KTM ones.
Extra fuel capacity and the tower you installed make a huge difference. The stock fender extension with the license plate holder hangs so far down and it won't last long offroad. Get a shorter one and delete all that extra plastic. Check out the enduro plate www.enduroplate.com Also, get some indestructible and foldable mirrors from double take to replace the weak ones that came with the bike www.doubletakemirror.com/
Thanks Ben, I have made something similar for my 350 EXC-F but so far the stocker has been okay for the trails I do on it which probably means I'm not riding it hard enough 😉 It looks a good bit of kit though.
Great review I have the same model after having a 1050 adventure , which I found too heavy on dirt. I have completed similar modifications as you have, currently investigating the race fairing, but interested in your Lynx fairing. How long did they take to deliver? I am 6’1” so looks like this will work Thanks Ian
Hi Ian, it came out of Canada and it took about 2-3 weeks in the Perth. Faster than stuff from China and the support was pretty quicj from them when i had a few questions. I run the screen always in the lowest setting that gives some chest protection so there is no buffeting on the helmet and it is fine up to 120km/h. Any faster and I will put the screen up and lean forward to reduce buffeting but I am 6'5". I don't usually spend much time above 120lm/h.
Hey mate, what is the brand of the steering dampener?
Hi Adam, its a Ralle Moto from MSC Moto www.googleadservices.com/pagead/aclk?sa=L&ai=DChcSEwiU__K9o9btAhWRNSsKHblhCv0YABAKGgJzZg&ae=2&ohost=www.google.com&cid=CAESQOD22K11H5EWXSBq0fKlFSl2Z384_-chmmTtEthY_mv_rJc85AW6DNAQp2oBneUDWOwvRcGrgTU8Ehogqm_ow2g&sig=AOD64_1SUfGUTE1Azq48uOmDg5Wt3VQ-gw&q&adurl&ved=2ahUKEwiene29o9btAhX24jgGHVY7A_YQ0Qx6BAgaEAE
Wise move, 50 kg lighter than the T7 and a similar price but with technology. You can run the rade fuel into the rear tank breather, eliminating the need to connect into the fuel pump
Yeah I did see that but I wanted a seperate inline fuel filter for the tank as I wasn't convinced there might be issues so I went for a seperate line with filter and tap just in case.
Nice work. Glad you made the video as that fairing looks to be just what I’ll be getting. Cheers 👍👍
Good vid mate👍 Did you have to drill your plastics to mount the Perun rack? I’ve heard the markings are a little off.
Hi Geoff, the Enduro R has passender grab rails so it is a straight swap and no mods to the plastics are necessary. I think the SMC R version or non pillion versions are the ones that need the plastics to be drilled as they don't have the grab rails.
littleblackduc1 yes , they come with the grab handles but they are not fitted, you have to drill the holes in your plastics. If my grab handles were fitted I wouldn’t be asking.....
@@geoffgbad1576 interesting. The handles were already fitted to my bike when I got it (1 yo, 2nd hand) and it lined up exactly when I removed the handles and fitted the rack.
Yeah, the drill marks on the underside of the panels are about 5mm off.
A question. Where did you buy the Adventure / Rally cockpit .. Good video upload more;) I myself have just bought a 690-2020. A fantastic versatile motorcycle .. (Have had a 690 2016) But the new 19-20 is so much better at everything ...
Hi Mike, it is The Lynx R fairing from Britania Composies out of Canada. They are very good to deal with and have good resources to help you DIY. www.britanniacomposites.com/ . As for the videos, there is much to improve on but I will try to make future ones a little better each time.
@@youraveragerider6684 Okay Thanks for the info .. Think it looks smooth and not as big as some others. Now you should not be like that :) I think you're doing a good job. ;)
