John shares his knife making, blacksmithing & forging while being a friendly neighborhood coffee fiend.
Hello friends, welcome to my little cardboard box on the internet. My names John and I am so happy you've found me here.
I want to share my journey as a novice blacksmith and knifemaker with you. I have created a variety of functional everyday carry items and self defense tools for the past 3 years. I have wanted to push my skillset even further and learn blacksmithing to create beautiful chef knives that tell a story. So I am taking a leap of faith on my dreams, and I can't wait to grow as a craftsman and creator.
If you ever wondered how using a small shop space to follow your dreams is possible, then I would love for you to join me in the process.
To see more of the behind the scenes stuff, dive deeper daily life and you can always find me on my Instagram @GLGKnifeworks
Thanks!
John

Biggest Blacksmithing MESS?
Переглядів 2332 роки тому
How messy can a knifemaker and blacksmith get? See how bad the shop got over the last few months from an active knife shop. I hope you enjoyed watching! I just started making videos. If you liked the video it'd mean the world if you subscribed or shared it with a friend. The shops a bit cleaner, and I'm going to do my best to keep it organized. It's like it has it's own life force and is an ong...
Thanks for the tips John !
Hey I hope to see more videos from you. They’re not the average regurgitated bs I always see. You provide some serious niche value in my opinion.
Second time watching, like Gilligan's Island, each time I watch I catch more. A question on your bandsaw, which I see is in a totally awesome bestest ever SWAG stand. What blade are you using? And do you know if those wee portable bandsaws can use anything other than a 1/2" blade?
Nice tips! Thanks!
Hello, thanks for the tips. Question: I am making my first kydex press and purchased the extreme foam you suggested. I am wondering if the gap between the surfaces of the press should be made equal to the combined thickness of the two foam panels or should I shrink that gap a hair to account for foam compression? Thanks in advance!
Funny Guy! Good Tips.
Thanks alot for the scotchbrite tip, works great with a pad and a sanding block
My ears are not what they used to be, was that Dark ??? Gear
ahhhh Darkstart, got it never mind
I need to make one or 2 sheaths. A 24x36x3" piece of high density foam from walmart wont work?
It could. The trick is to get the Kydex warmed up enough that it’s floppy like cooked lasagna and get it into the foam and pressed down.
It's always the guy at the theater that gets me. "Enjoy your movie." "You too, thanks."
Thanks for the video every little tip counts
Somebody watches Garand Thumb.
Yessssh
Link to the Scotchbrite wheel?
Dumb question maybe... can a kydex sheath be made for a folded pocket knife? 🤔
Not a dumb question. Yea it could, it would give you the option to carry it outside of your pockets.
Hi i have a holster that came with my handgun the bad thing is that is right handed, i was wondering if i could bend the kydex to fit my left side.
You would probably lose a bit of retention. I’d reach out to who made it and see if they make a left sided versions
I already talked to them (canik), and they don't make a left-handed one.
Killer video. Thank u alot
Great video man, love the energy. I have been having some problems getting crisp lines when forming my sheaths. I think pre-heating the foam will give me the results Im looking for, thanks! Greetings from Tortuga Forge in Aruba. ✌🏾
The scotch bright wheel! Great tip thanks!
Thanks for the great info! newsub from Idaho!
Thanks for the sub!
Hey man im about to start doing some kydex sheaths. And was wondering what thickness you go with. Amd what size eyelets
Sorry just saw this. I go .80 and get eyelets from knife kits. It’s. A little thicker than .60 it’s sturdy and holds well.
I'm the 420th like. Nice
Legend!
Can you test. Cubitron Vs. Norton
Nice channel dude
I like your presentations. I do mix my epoxy on a powder scale to get consistent measure.
Well done thanks
Thank you for the kind words
Well done friend! Where do you purchase the scotch bright wheels…thanks
I think I grabbed mine off eBay
Great quality video man. What software and camera are you using? My iphone/imovie only videos just look like pure garbage compared to yours. Also... you need to do some audio books or relaxation videos.....
I use a Sony but for this video I used my phone as I couldn’t balance the camera right I then use adobe to edit thanks for the kind words bud appreciate you.
You’re almost out of shop towels. j/k The time lapse was fun to watch.
I like to be prepared
This was quite informative. Good choice of dish detergent.
I was committed at “ thanks, you too…” 😂 great video man, lots of logic and useful info. I’m relatively new in the kydex world but making holsters, sheaths, and everything in between, this video was super appreciated and you got my subscription 👌👍👍
Thank you for the kind words. Hopefully I’ll continue to make great content for you.
This is awesome.
Thank you!
Great video! Can’t wait to see them glued up
good video. I like that you called them eyelets and not "rivets". this is the first time Ive heard of using acetone. It would have been cool to see an example of one used with acetone.
My buddy Klnycollective recommended your video to me because I'm running into huge problems with my finishing picture video help me decide which brand to go with and I appreciate it so much
great video bro!!!!
Thank you bud!!! More coming next week
Kydex Belt loops and clips would be a helpful one for me lol
Awesome intro. Has the Garand Thumb touch to it. I love it! Great video man. Thanks!
Great video!
Great video, thanks for sharing. Employ a company like P r o m o s m!!
The design kinda reminds me of a wingtip from a falcon when it's diving.... So I'd say either the wingtip or the falcon?
Very cool that it reminds you of that and to someone else a Rhino. Thank you for adding your name to the list I appreciate you. Did you like the video? Is there anything I could do better to make it more enjoyable?
Thanks so much for sharing your design process! Love the videos.
Thanks Bryan I appreciate you
The way the blade sits on that drawing it kinda reminds me of a rhino, so I’d say Rhino as a name.
It does, doesn’t it 🦏 💪
Looks like it should be called the “Kaligraffi”. Nice design. BTW, that little swoop is called a sharpening choil.
Yes! Thank you when I was doing the voice over I had mind block and I totally didn’t want to tab out and go google it lol. Thanks bud
Journeyman. In honor of your day to day grind but the ability to use it on a day basis and in your travels. Happy to see you branch out and continue your growth!
Thank you big guy
I'm still amazed by the video quality for a channel with less then 200 subs! I've seen channels with 100x the subs with a 10th of the quality!
Thank you for the kind words! I need to do better at getting more videos out but I pour my heart into making these. I just want to grow a Greta community and offer some knowledge and entertainment.
@@GLGForgeworks your video quality is on point! I'm sure it's just a matter of time before your channel explodes!
