I was at a Glazier clinic a few weeks ago. There was a team that pulled both guards in opposite directions and pulled guards JUST to fool D-linemen and LB's. They follow the pull, then you run right where they just vacated.

So not only should he technically have been ruled down by contact, but the ref blows the whistle BEFORE the kid drops the ball, which signaled the end of the play. Stupid, stupid refs.

the whistle was blown but possesion of the ball was not determined yet. This was a good example of too many officials ball watchin when only one or two should have dug for the ball and the remaining officials needed to take care of everythin else. Another example of too many officials ball watchin is if all 5 officials throw a flag on the same facemask call that means they were not watchin their areas

@sk8erg466 When the whistle is blown, the ball is effectively dead. However, in the pile, because noone knows who has the ball, they cannot make a determination of who has possesion. Because the ball was removed from the pile and not handed over, the play, while called dead, is still active, and with the purple team recovering the football outside of that where no referee can view what happened, the ruling is kicking team recovered. Remember, no booth review in HS football.

The refs didn't see the guy with the ball. They were trying to figure out who had it when the guy with the ball took off. They didn't see him with the ball and then the refs turned around and the other team had it. It's simple, yet needed reviewing.
