    I used to own this lens and the advice about not using it wide open on 1.2 is correct. You can get some artistic style shots but the sharpness suffers greatly. I think that and not having a close minimum focusing distance are the only two major flaws in this lens. Keeping in mind it was designed in 2006 and Canon has yet to release an updated version of it. Also the focusing speed of this lens is outdated but works fine for portrait or street photography if your subject is still or not moving so quickly.

She mentioned she uses the R6 Mark II for her wedding photography and was waiting for the release of the updated R5 over the R5 Mark I because of the improved focusing than the R5M1. WOW, shooting speed "you can take up to 6 photos per second", that has nothing to do with the lens but everything to do with the camera and it's settings... It's called a 'fast lens' because it lets in a lot of light not because it can shoot 6 photos per second. Off course the lens will help attain these speeds if your camera can shoot at 6 photos per second or more, like your Canon 5D Mark IV, or 3 photos per second, or 6 photos per second or 1 at a time or 6 photos per second or 3 photos per second or 6 photos per second or 3 photos per second and end up with 600 photos per hour :)

    I own a Canon 5DIV, got it last year with a 35mm EF II L lens, very expensive but on my wish list for years. I did considered newer cameras that take care of everything for you, except for pushing the button such as the latest crop of mirrorless from Sony. What make me go for the Canon was I needed a challenge to improve my photography and learn, if your camera takes care of almost every aspect of the process you as a person learns nothing and will never improve! Yes many of earliest photograph on the Canon are seriously bad but over time I am seeing improvements and I am learning all the time, you will never get that from a camera that just require you to point and push a button and forget!

My Canon is hard to carry around sometimes bc it’s bulky, and gets heavier when using a heavy lens. The other thing about the Canon is the screen, I wish it had a flip screen. When I did the Amazon interest free payment plan to buy my camera bodies, I had to sign up for an Amazon Visa Credit Card, and then you make interest free payments from that Credit Card. When you checkout, there may be an option to sign up/apply for an Amazon Visa Credit Card which you then use to purchase the camera body. It's a 12 or 18 month payment plan I believe, and it could be dependent on credit score. I've been about 4 years since I signed up for the Amazon Visa Credit Card, so I don't remember how it works. Here's a quick statement about the battery klitsch you mention here, this is actually the first time I've heard this problem. I've had my R6mk2 for almost 2 years now and have never had this problem. I strongly suspect that it may be due to the use of replica batteries, which usually have less capacity and, above all, are much slower and therefore cannot always supply the chamber with the necessary power, i've also often read that the replica batteries limit the functions of the camera, especially when it comes to auto focus speed, eye detection, etc. The same problem can also occur with the old original canon batteries of the LP-E6 series. The significantly more expensive Canon LP-E6NH batteries were developed especially for this purpose for a reason. If the problems also occur with the Canon LP-E6NH battery, I would send the camera in under warranty and have it repaired. Because this should definitely not happen with the klitsch.

    Why do you think mirrorless cameras do not have a mechanical shutter?

    • @jennifercookephotography
      @jennifercookephotography Місяць тому

      Hello! Thank you for your comment! Mirrorless camera bodies are mechanically simpler than DSLR cameras which makes them smaller and quieter because mirrorless camera bodies don't have a moving mirror. Interestingly, some mirrorless camera bodies have an electronic shutter while some have a mechanical shutter. In the video, I believe I meant that the Canon R6 Mark ii doesn't have actual mirrors in the camera sensor which makes it have less mechanical moving parts, but it still has some.

    The Canon 5D Mk IV is one heck of a camera. I bought one last year and it is actually really versatile although not great for action/sports work due to the auto focus system - the camera is really a landscape/studio/wedding camera though and to be honest all you really need unless you want to go Medium Format. I ended up selling mine last month along with a 1D X Mk II to purchase second 1D X Mk III as going to the 1D X Mk2 or 5D was a major drawback - the AF system and touch AF point button is just game changing on the 1D X Mk III for me. If you think CF cards are expensive though, CF Express is a whole new level of pain on the wallet!! LOL I might at some point get an R3 and do the switch to mirrorless; however, at the moment the 1D X Mk IIIs are such workhorses and I'm super happy/confident with them so don't see the point at this time.

    If that's has a 1:1 ratio, it should be able to focus closer than that. May tokina is like 6 inches from the sensor. So in other words 3 inches from the end of the lens.

    Great review, I've just ordered one of these to go with the 50 f1.2L. Your photos from this lens are superb, the bokeh is just sooo smooth with this lens. I think the issue with fast moving subjects is the speed of the AF motor, even though it is a USM motor, with the amount of glass it has to move internally it just can't keep up depending how quick the subject is moving sometimes.

    That ef 85mm is the absolute best. It's not the 85mm fault for not being able to capture fast moving subjects. It's a mid range lens so stop down some and be sure your distance is correct. Adjust your tracking setting, double Dial up that shutter speed or if you like that speedy looking background punch around 1/30, speed pan match the subject and snap. I'm confused on the speedlight with the 85mm camera and having problems, that's the absolute PERFECT moment! Were you referring to meaning to have the 50mm at that grand entrance? How long you been shooting overall? just curious

    • @jennifercookephotography
      @jennifercookephotography Місяць тому

      Thank you so much for your comment and your additional insight! This is very helpful! I prefer to use the 50mm to photograph the grand entrance as I like to have the option to shoot wider. And I prefer shooting with a high aperture (f2.2 - 2.8) to get that beautiful bokeh that the 85mm provides; therefore, using a lower aperture to capture fast moving subjects on this lens does not work for my style. And I've been a professional photographer for 5 years now. Thank you so much for your insight and comment! :)

      @@WeddingbyLeo You should be able too! I would recommend creating a proposal (which is your contract and invoice put together in one project file). You can then have your contract and invoice sent to your client with just one email (the proposal). You should be able to have the invoice include 2 payments. Please let me know if this helped you! :)
