Flows To Bay
Приєднався 17 чер 2020
Flows To Bay is the outreach and public education arm of the San Mateo Countywide Water Pollution Program. Water pollution degrades surface waters, making them unsafe for drinking, fishing, swimming, and other activities. Our channel shares resources to help educate residents of San Mateo County and help reduce the pollution carried by stormwater into local creeks, the San Francisco Bay, and the Pacific Ocean.
Schoolyard Greening in San Mateo County
A schoolyard's landscape is a significant part of a child's daily educational experience.
While some schools offer adequate access to green space, many schoolyards are covered with hardscape which can quickly become uncomfortable for outdoor activity on hot days and can lead to increased stormwater runoff and pollution during weather events.
Fortunately, schools in San Mateo County are making a shift towards schoolyard greening that can greatly benefit our children and our environment.

50:46 whoever did that gulping sound, that was disgusting
This is so beautiful , I cried. Well done
Maybe quit saying, um, um, um. You would sound more educated of what you're talkin about!
This video was made two years ago. And so it does NOT reflect what we NOW know about the dangers of collecting water off of roofs!!!! It is highly TOXIC!!! Full of chemicals that get absorbed by the rain water and then straight into your system. Some of the toxins can be removed by a certified water decontamination filtering system (At great cost). The safest way to harvest rain water is by using freestanding arrays of water catchments. Which feed directly into your cisterns. Also, make sure your water collection barrales are "Food Grade." Because otherwise, you will once again get harmful chemicals leaching into your stored water.

How would you set up a rain barrel collection system for homes that can see 0°F in the wintertime?
There are some attachments that come with a plug so you can eliminate the water running into the barrels and continue down the spout as it would originally. Then just ensure your barrels are drained and you'd be good for winter
What about places where it freezes?
You could always heat trace, but probably just draining and leaving open during the winter would be the best idea.
Water pressure is determined by the height of the water. Adding additional barrels at the sand height will not increase pressure. 100ft of water is approximately 44psi.
Are those vents on top of the barrels? Do they seal when the water gets to the top?
Hi Danny - yes, every barrel is vented. Our downspout diverter includes automatic overflow handling. That gets installed just below the vents so there's never any leakage. All rain barrels need to have carefully-planned ventilation, overflow handling, and balanced inflow/overflow. Please visit bluebarrelsystems.com for more info, and contact our customer service team if you have more questions!
@@bluebarrel Thanks. I put mine in years ago and didn’t design them properly. I have a diverter and daisy chained them together at the bottom. My mistake was installing the diverter about a foot higher than the tops of the barrels. I need to relocate the diverter and add vents.
